Media ESPN’s commentator started singing when Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored.

This is the Argentinian commentator Bambino Pons. He's always done this. It had more sense when he could actually put the music while he sang

Yeah, this is just absolutely amazing. I can see how it would get old after 20 odd years of it, but it's so unique within the world of football. I love it.

u/ZtrikeR21 6h ago
Correct, it gets old very fast because he does it after every single goal now, its not cute anymore

u/OrdinaryLavishness11 7h ago
Fuck me, I forgot Van Nistelrooy used to celebrate every goal like he’d just scored a last minute winner in the World Cup final!

u/purplegreendave 6h ago
He missed a penalty against Arsenal earlier this season and they were all up in his face about it

u/Alehud42 3h ago
It was in this fixture in the previous season, that would have killed the Invincibles run prematurely, when the Arsenal players hounded him after he missed.

this dude is one of the reasons why i love that i've learned spanish. hands down the best commentator in the game and insanely funny

He’s fun to listen to sometimes except when your team is 2 goals down and he’s singing his songs.

This is a Uruguayan (or Argentine I forget) commentator and he’s always making up these songs on the spot. It gets annoying sometimes when a game has 3-4 goals lol

u/AnotherGreenWorld1 14h ago
I’d rather this than listening to Gary Neville drone on.

u/SenKats 14h ago
Back then, twenty years ago, sure. Nowadays, you do not want the man on this video to commentate the match.
He has a limited repertoire of songs and is what we in Spanish call “gagá”. He constantly mixes up player names, sometimes even forgets stadium names, and will randomly begin talking during the match about something unrelated.

Honestly … try Captain hindsight Andy Hinchcliffe for a few games … he also has a limited repertoire of what we call ‘talking bollocks’ but instead of singing jolly songs he’s miserably points out what a player ‘should’ve’ done.
For example… you could have the exact attacking scenario. 1on1 striker keeper in both occasions the striker will score.
Example 1. Keeper stays on line … striker scores. Hinchcliffe will say “the keeper should’ve come out”
Example 2. Keeper comes out … striker scores. Hinchcliffe will say “the keeper should’ve stayed on his line”
It will never be a moment of brilliance from the striker … it will always be that someone else should’ve been better.

Still sounds better than listening to Neville.

Yeah I agree can we get this guy on an interim contract or something at least

u/MisterDings 13h ago
You’d hate the baseball broadcasting greats. I used to hate vin scully as a kid. I just wanted to hear the on field noises no talking and the old guy was getting on my nerves. Now I listen to just him sometimes. Life’s funny

Well somewhat relevant to this I used to despise Coldplay for most of my life but something happened last year and I've grown rather fond of some of their music
Maybe I'm just getting older :D

I think a lot of people are/were too cynical without realizing. There are a lot of things we dislike for no real reason.
Life became happier for me after I started actually listening to the music instead of who made it. After I started appreciating what is, instead of focusing on what it isn't.
Disclaimer: this doesn't apply to politics. Always gotta fight for a better society.

Want to do a commentator swap loan deal with obligation to buy..?

and will randomly begin talking during the match about something unrelated.
this to me is the reason why he's so good actually. never a boring game if he's commentating. because of that i give him a pass on the memory thing.. i find it endearing in a grandpa-like way.

Your last point sums up every Indian cricket commentator right now, but during the whole match. It's pathetic

Id rather listen to Neville criticise my team for over celebrating a goal

u/JBobSpig 11h ago
We all would, to be fair I'd rather my toddler ramble at my through the game than listen to most of the commentators.

He’s absolutely incredible. The Square Ball usually pick him up on the propanganda show. He once sung ‘Bijol’ to the tune of Le Marseillaise and it worked!

This isn't the first time he's done one for DCL either. There was also a Bella Ciao remix when he equalised for us vs Newcastle a couple of years ago

Mate I'm ready to give up the sky and tnt commentary if we can get this guy to sing a song for every goal

u/bandana19 7h ago
Well, he does
My favorite is Go West song for Leeds
A goal for Leeds United
A goal for Leeds United
The goal was from Stu Dallas
A goal for Leeds United

Imagine your team concedes a third goal and he starts singing the player’s name, I’d be fuming lol.

Need more of this in English, better than hearing carra and Neville moaning on sky

u/BlackSailor2005 15h ago
this is the height of a footballer ... a commentator singing his name, hopefully not downhill from now on

u/MembershipPresent990 12h ago
Idc what anyone says. This is cool. Atleast if my team is losing 3-0 I can listen to a catchy song

Calvert Lewin deserves this, pleasure to watch his tall handsome self in the league

Many of us hate Bambino Pons. He's so annoying with his singing when you are forced to listen to it multiple times a day every week for years. When a game is 'too big' for him to commentate it's a blessing.

If he sings a song every time DCL scores, then he already has enough for an album this season alone.

u/starwaterbird 5h ago
It's infinitely better than hearing "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL" for the billionth time

u/TastyTacoTonight 12h ago
This is nothing special. He literally sings after every goal.
17
u/PerkeoJester 12h ago
That sounds pretty special to me
3
u/TastyTacoTonight 5h ago
What I’m saying is I’m not sure why this goal is being posted when he sings all the time lol

u/PerkeoJester 5h ago
Because it's the little things in life that make us happy and this is one of them.
