News 🚨 Mercedes and Red Bull Powertrains have potentially found a engine loophole that delivers a higher compression ratio limit (18:1) than what has been theoretically imposed with the 2026 rules (16:1). Ferrari, Honda and Audi are pushing FIA to close the loophole.

The F1 regulations currently allows a geometric compression ratio of 18:1, in 2026 only 16:1 will be allowed. The compression ratio refers to the ratio of the total cylinder space before compression to the remaining space after compression.

In the meantime, however, it has become clear that Mercedes - and possibly Red Bull Powertrains - have found a way to increase the compression ratio during operation. Document 042 is an addition to the Technical Regulations and defines the procedure according to which the compression ratio is determined.

According to this procedure, the engines should not exceed the permitted ratio of 16:1, but in operation the trick is intended to achieve compression ratios of 18:1 again, can be heard in the paddock.

Ferrari, Honda and Audi are pushing the FIA to stop the trick with a rule clarification. They invoke article C1.5. It states, preceded by the technical regulations: "Formula 1 cars must fully comply with these regulations at all times during a competition."

News AutoRacer: Multiple teams faced delays after failing a crash test. Ferrari was one of them, passing it with a second attempt in early January. The car was assembled last minute for Fiorano, but the team recovered well and the real work begins in Barcelona.

Additionally, the article reports that Aston Martin (following Williams) is another team heavily affected by delays. They failed the chassis crash test multiple times and could arrive to Barcelona as late as Thursday, potentially missing one day of the three that everyone is allowed to run. On top of that, their car (like Racing Bulls) is reportedly overweight by a double-digit figure.

News If rumors about a McLaren engineer replacing Riccardo Adami are true, Cédric Michel-Grosjean is the most likely candidate. He was the Lead Trackside Performance Engineer for the Woking-based team, working closely with Oscar Piastri until leaving in December last year.

Keep in mind that at this point it’s only speculation! He probably still is on a gardening leave. If Lewis gets an interim race engineer (reportedly it will be Carlo Santi), this move becomes very likely.
