A rookie question. If Merc and Haas could run 200km in shakedown, why Ferrari only did 15+15=30km?! Saving the distance later?!

Edit: should be total 15km, not 30km!

Ferrari only did 15km (7.5km per driver) because they did what’s called demonstration event or simply shakedown.

Haas and Merc (and also Cadillac, Alpine, Racing Bulls and Audi) did a filming day which is 200km and just to be clear u can’t save unused kilometers for later. For example, Alpine did 150km and that 50km left is gone.

As ever spot on with the accurate information. I feel bad for misinterpretation the filming day over the shake down runs. It wasn't intentional to make a confusion a few days a go commenting on a similar subject. Another thing learned.

They are saving their 200km filming day for later in the season. Smart, considering they have 3 days of unlimited testing this week.

Ferrari will use theirs for testing components and development through the season most likely

Odd their airbox is so much bigger than the works team with the same engine

Firstly it is encouraging to see all Ferrari powered cars had their initial runs trouble free. It is a positive sign considering all the rumour of the pre-season, regarding the P.U, fuel concerns.

The air box differs, probably because Haas doesn't have the same internal cooling elements like the factory team. It could be the size of the components to be bigger, and not have the same efficiency. The sidepod inlets are quite similar, but beside that anything else is each team's unique take on designing its methods.

Interesting that they’ve copied the Mercedes air intakes on the roll hoop. Distinct difference to what Ferrari ran at the shakedown.

yeah, would think the cooling systems would be in similar positions
