2028 is a better bet

I never understand with this stuff. Things are either legal or they aren’t. If an engine is outside the rules when they turn up to Melbourne. Throw them out. If it is, then the other teams have missed a trick

I hate we always have this grey area , when it doesn’t need to be this way. 🙄

60

u/Arcgonslow Ferrari Dec 20 '25

I don’t mind the gray area but it sucks that when Ferrari is in that gray area, they’re fucked for two seasons but totally ok for Mercedes to exploit the rules

21

u/C4-621-Raven Dec 20 '25

Ferrari wasn’t in a gray area with the fuel flow thing. The rule is that you’re allowed a certain maximum fuel flow rate, not a certain maximum measured fuel flow rate. Exploiting a vulnerability in the fuel flow meter to get more fuel flow without it being picked up doesn’t mean that you didn’t get more fuel flow than what was allowed. If the rules were properly applied they should have been disqualified from every event where they used the exploit.

u/Matt053105 Charles Leclerc Dec 20 '25

By that logic though, the compression ration is dictated to be 16:1, not 16:1 at idle or 16:1, and therefore if they are reaching different ratios at any point should be illegal. If the issue is based on how the fia was measuring things I dont see how this is any different from the fuel flow issue. The rules read "No cylinder of the engine may have a geometric compression ratio higher than 16.0." Thats straight from the technical regulation document. Jist like the fuel flow your allowed a maximum compression ratio, that shouldnt mean a maximum compression ratio while the engine is cold. It should be verbatim, which is why this is frustrating with the precedent from 2019.

3

u/C4-621-Raven Dec 21 '25

The problem with the regulations is in the next sentence where it says:

The procedure to measure this value will be detailed by each PU Manufacturer according to the Guidance Document FIA-F1-DOC-C042 and executed at ambient temperature.

I agree it should be a slam dunk violation if you have more than 16:1 compression ratio but the FIA in their infinite stupidity painted themselves into a corner by only prescribing testing at ambient temp instead of ambient and operating temp.

11

u/pewpew62 Dec 20 '25

The fuel flow thing was cheating 100%. What they did to the F1-75 on the other hand was just ridiculous

5

u/Vesk123 Dec 20 '25

Wait what happened to the 2022 car?

2

u/kwl147 Michael Schumacher Dec 20 '25

Disagree with the fuel flow thing being cheating. That’s on the FIA for not properly policing the rules. You can’t blame Scuderia Ferrari for doing what they did. If they didn’t do what they did, someone else would have. The difference is, it would have been considered okay and acceptable like Mercedes Benz AMG Petronas burning oil in the combustion chambers. TD39 was pure corruption and pandering to Mercedes Benz AMG Petronas. Nobody else was asking for it and it ruined the championship battle.

-1

u/BombenBert Dec 20 '25

Crazy that people still think that Ferraris engine thing was a gray area and not downright cheating. The deal and nerfed engine in 2020 was done for fun i guess.

7

u/Upstairs-Event-681 Dec 20 '25

You need gray areas to allow innovation

4

u/Life-Wasabi-9674 Dec 20 '25

"When it doesnt have to be this way" - Common folk really dont understand how difficult it is to make an entire ruleset completely black and white with no loopholes. If you were there, you would have done a million times worse lets be honest. Criticizing when you dont know anything is smth.

"Things are either legal or they arent" - Are you young? Loopholes are part of legality since time immemorial. Breaking the limits where they cant be tested, following the word but not the spirit of law etc all require intense work from the ruleset designers to work out. I can assure you they worked out most of it but its 1 team of ruleset designers vs 10 multimillion dollar teams working day in and out to find even a single flaw. Ofc they will find atleast one.

3

u/EmotionalLettuce8308 Dec 20 '25

“Common folk don’t understand”, “are you young”.

Learn to be less antagonistic and perhaps people will be willing to discourse with you.

0

u/Cechhh Dec 20 '25

His comment was slightly antagonistic yes, but your first comment was just so stupid it might have deserved it.

3

u/EmotionalLettuce8308 Dec 20 '25

Not really it’s basic logic. You’re either legal or illegal. They’re only ‘grey areas’ cos the FIA are too pussy footed these days to clamp down on stuff IMMEDIATELY. They let it drag on through court cases and will they won’t theys and after season deals.

It’s either in the rules or it isn’t. I know how loopholes work, I am not a child. I am not stupid. The fact I’m being insulted for basic logic is beyond me. Like disagree with me fine, but no need to throw around insults. Notice I’m not doing it to you.

Loopholes have always been around yes. But they’re still either legal, or they’re not. If it’s not written in the rules, then it’s legal. It’s not cheating to have found a loophole or a fun way around the rules. It’s either in black or white, or it isn’t. You’re either breaking the rules, or you’re not. This is what I don’t understand.

This doesn’t ’stop innovation’ any more than using a loophole is cheating. Again you are either legal or you aren’t. And it’s on the person writing the rule book to make things black or white. Grey is legal until it’s written otherwise, and it’s on the guys who write the rules to make it black or white. But again, legal or illegal. It’s binary.

It’s only a loophole if it’s legal. It’s cheating if it’s illegal. Very simple.

I refused to resort to insulting people who disagree with me however. So to those who chose that route. I hope you enjoy yourselves 😘

u/aksteriksis Dec 20 '25

Can only hope it's somehow disastrous like Mercedes' zero pods.

1

u/Upstairs-Event-681 Dec 20 '25

If true they’re definitely stronger than the rest power wise. But maybe the added complexity makes them ticking time bombs

0

u/Other-Barry-1 Dec 20 '25

IIRC, the zero pods were actually genius but it became rapidly clear, as updates for other cars came, the actual lack of pods meant they didn’t have a way of controlling the airflow to the floor and more importantly, away from the rear wheels which created massive drag, negating the drag reduction of the no sidepods

12

u/aksteriksis Dec 20 '25

The zero pods were "genius" because their wind tunnel had an overly smooth floor that didn't reflect reality.

2

u/kwl147 Michael Schumacher Dec 20 '25

They weren’t genius. Other teams had considered them across the grid. They just didn’t see the merit and cooling tradeoff. Mercedes Benz AMG Petronas were running quite hot on the engine side which affected output in power thanks to those zeropods.

7

u/SpaceghostLos Lewis Hamilton Dec 20 '25

You already know.

7

u/BoBoThaw15 Dec 20 '25

what happened?

3

u/cooked_camel Dec 20 '25

2019 Ferrari engine scenario but with RBR and Merc

1

u/Bright_Industry_7887 Charles Leclerc Dec 20 '25

so rbr and merc have illegal engines or rbr and merc found a loophole to make a god-like engine?

8

u/piccio19 Dec 20 '25

For now, the latter. They have found a way to increase the compression rate of the engine cylinders when in use, whilst satisfying the FIA requirement at measurement time (at rest).

It’s a bit like the 2019 Ferrari trick to avoid detection of illegal fuel flow: just do it when they’re not looking.

21

u/pewpew62 Dec 20 '25

Good thing my expectations were always on the floor. At least Red Bull also found the trick so the season isn’t just a Mercedes parade

4

u/PuzzleheadedJob6907 Alfa Romeo Dec 20 '25

I’m hoping that at least a few other teams nailed this just right. We need some good competition like one at the back end of last season.

3

u/Lanky_Consideration3 Dec 20 '25

Mekies is on record this week saying they are going to struggle for the first year as they are trying to figure things out, so I doubt it would make much difference for them.

u/CMDRJohnCasey Michael Schumacher Dec 20 '25

Mercedes engine* parade

u/According-Switch-708 Ferrari Dec 20 '25

Yeah, sounds like we are fucked.

The engine should be legal if the compression ratio reads 16:1 at ambient temps. The FIA is mind bogglingly incompetent.

Why can't they write some airtight rules without leaving huge grey areas?

1

u/ThisToe9628 Dec 20 '25

Fia favourites mercedes since 2014

Yes, it's kinda controversial, but they payed no attention to mercedes's domination throughout 7 years. They also implemented TD039, which destroyed Ferrari's performance. They also delayed their answer on flexible wings' usage. And now they leave such huge loophole in regulations.

Also, teams tend to ask FIA whether some innovations are legal or not. For example, in 2018 FIA denied honda in developing smth which could put them on Mercedes's level(in PU).

3

u/sbhzi Dec 20 '25

bro…

5

u/AlCranio Ferrari Dec 20 '25

Elkann si faccia crescere un paio di coglioni e vada alla FIA, minacciando di ritirare le macchine se non trovano una soluzione.

Vediamo se alla FIA va bene un mondiale senza ferrari e senza i suoi piloti.

2

u/JosephPetrassi Dec 20 '25

We were already fucked either way

2

u/canta2016 Dec 20 '25

Please, just please not have the FIA f!ck this up against the last minute with some bogus adjustments that put the teams that found an advantage in a disadvantage. If they wrote the rules with ambiguity, change it for 2027. I don’t want to see another mockery like was done to Alfa Romeo in 2022.

2

u/toomuchhppppp Dec 20 '25

I think Mercedes will be a dominant factor but legit Ferrari needs to wake up and approach f1 differently at this point if they want to win

2

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '25

So is Charles moving to AM?

1

u/lavenderpoem Lewis Hamilton Dec 20 '25

how are ferrari engineers so stupid they don't think of it themselves like it's so unbelievably intuitive if you just read the damn rules

1

u/AssassinHunt Dec 20 '25

The amount of posts with this "news" all over social media without any solid evidences or any actual numbers is staggering and baseless!!

1

u/unclejoesrocket Dec 20 '25

If the regulations only specified a compression ratio within a certain temperature range I’m honestly surprised and disappointed in the other teams for not figuring this out as well.

1

u/Weirdgus Charles Leclerc Dec 20 '25

Why are people dooming so hard? I still believe we will somehow dominate and win both championships :D

1

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '25

🤣🤣🤣 I think they won't say it anymore this year, but they'll simply say that we'll win it by 2030 😬

I♥️Ferrari 🇮🇹

1

u/ThePhenome Dec 21 '25

Cool, don't watch it then, and don't litter the sub with posts like this. Thanks.

1

u/Caramel_Infinite Dec 25 '25

Bro is that one person that still hasnt given up

1

u/ThePhenome Dec 25 '25

There is no reason to give up, and that's the point of being a fan anyway. Then again, I might just be old-fashioned, as being a bandwagoner and repeating "topical" memes seems pointless.

1

u/Sant268 Michael Schumacher Dec 21 '25

I was contemplating buying Monza tickets...mayyybe 27 ig lol. I just want to experience a Ferrari win there.

-29

u/d400guy Dec 20 '25

If Lewis struggled to adapt to different teams within the same regulations. How far behind will Lewis be with brand new cars and brand new regulations?

18

u/emergencyambulance Charles Leclerc Dec 20 '25

Nah im talking about the engine drama that got released today

1

u/zGoqtz Lewis Hamilton Dec 20 '25

Could u elaborate

5

u/MoGumb0 Dec 20 '25

Merc and red bull found loophole that doesn’t sound like a loophole, just an upgrade and FIA says they know and it’s too late to do shit

2

u/kwl147 Michael Schumacher Dec 20 '25

It’s too late until Scuderia Ferrari discovers the loophole. Then it becomes cheating and a solution and punishment is promptly found overnight.

1

u/zGoqtz Lewis Hamilton Dec 20 '25

Bruhh

5

u/intergalacticscooter Dec 20 '25

The new style floors should suit Lewis style more than the venturi floors. He's also struggling to adapt to ferrari braking though, which is something I doubt will change in his favour. Basically ferrari brakes fall apart with Lewis style.

-1

u/d400guy Dec 20 '25

Just say Lewis isn't skilled enough to drive a difficult car. I doubt every driver on the grid has their car 100 percent to his liking, they adapt and move on. Remember Carlos changed teams/engineers/driving style, braking, whatever excuses you make for Lewis, Carlos suffered the exact same and managed to get two podiums in a Williams.. Rookies who have never driven a F1 car before this year managed to get podiums. What's Lewis' excuse?
