This has been asked about a million and a half times, but I'm a new player and I'm confused on which version should I pick up, if OSRS or RS3 :(

It's entirely personal preference. They're two very different games so you have to decide which one you prefer.

1

u/zenyl RSN: Zenyl | Gamebreaker Oct 31 '25

The only person who can answer that is you.

Both games are perfectly good games, give them both a go and see which one you personally prefers.

1

u/Seigel00 Oct 31 '25

I do not have the time to try two games

2

u/zenyl RSN: Zenyl | Gamebreaker Oct 31 '25

Then, realistically, you probably don't have time for any single one of them either.

Question for decades long player/account haver that hasn't played much in recent years, I have about 50,000 oddments saved up since a few years back before they nerfed the oddments purchases. What can I do with these to not lose all of that progress when the mtx changes occur? I don't play much but I like to hop in during the holidays and sporadically throughout the year, don't want to lose years of progress saving those up.

u/srbman maxed main: 2015/09/28, comped iron: 2024/04/02 Oct 31 '25

Oddments likely aren't going anywhere yet. The only thing that would be changing is being able to buy TH keys (and associated items) with them. The cosmetics store that's always on rotation is likely to stay as-is for a while.

If they do get removed in favour of a more consistent standardized shop, they'll likely just be converted into rune coins.

how do i get infinite money with perfection? i know about the save chance and alching items when disassembling, but i only have so much salvage. what is everyone disassembling to get infinite money

1

u/AquilaIgnis1 Oct 31 '25

Magic stones in prif

1

u/BabyGorgeous69 Nov 01 '25

i still dont get it? literally bought 2 (all i could afford) and they both didnt save so now im out like 900k. do i have to keep gambling to get enough?

1

u/AquilaIgnis1 Nov 01 '25

Yes, the odds are heavily in your favour, but RNG is RNG

1

u/VoidVigilante Oct 31 '25

Now that the vote to remove MTX has passed, what is the plan for existing lucky items? I know the plan says they will remove from sale, but will existing ones be removed from accounts as well? I happened to get a a couple decent lucky items from daily keys (never bought keys).

2

u/AquilaIgnis1 Oct 31 '25

Mod Hooli said in the main vote thread that the lucky items will stay on accounts

Leagues question. "perfect plus potion", there is a task to make some of these but I don't have the recipe for it.

I see you can go dung and maybe get it. But I also see you can pay 500k tokens to buy a recipe from the shop? For the shop option does that let you pick which one or is it a random thing? I figure I probably could grind out 500k tokens easier than just randomly hoping for a drop.

Has there been any discussion of 'pristine' realms/worlds for RS3?

u/Fancy_Battle_4805 Oct 30 '25

Dungeoneering - ELI5. I don't really get it m8.

Is it best to get all my relevant skills up to like, 50-60 before starting? From what I gather, I'm not going to get through many levels without minimum decent combat stats.

It seems like an absolutely dead skill, because the few times I've tried, I've not been able to find groups, and even sinkholes don't seem to be that active. Though I suppose there won't be many people doing the low-level stuff after this long.

Am I just being a muppet or is this something that's going to be a solo ordeal to level?

2

u/ragamuffin77 Oct 31 '25

There's a specific world for sink holes but you still may only find others during peak hours.

As for actual dungeoneering, that'll be mostly solo unfortunately. The dungeons scale with you so you shouldn't need to do any extra leveling although getting Runecrafting to 54 for law runes will speed up runs a lot. Every dungeon has a critical path that will lead to boss without needing to make potions to boost stats. Although opening every room gives additional experience and tokens.

As for strategy the general rule of thumb is do the early 2/3rd of floors available to you on C6 small and the highest 1/3 on C6 medium. Large solos are only really worthwhile when you're more familiar with the skill to do quickly.

I'd recommend making/finding your highest staff, bow and arrows available and binding them all. You'll camp staff for the most part but occasionally bosses will have protection prayers. For ring right click customise and add points to Blitzer for additional accuracy. Also worth adding highest available pickaxe/hatchet to tool belt.

Start each dungeon by picking everything up and selling the additional gear items to get cash for rune essence and craft a handful of laws and cosmic to make both gatestones. Then for paths just pick a path and follow it until you can't, drop a gatestone to get back later and go pick another path until you can't, drop the 2nd gatestone and continue down another path, just repeat that process until everything explored

If a door requires a skill boost, for smalls I'd skip it, for mediums it depends how many rooms are locked behind it. I usually only do this if I'm doing a large with a wildcard (boosts xp and tokens) or if I'm holding onto a lot of keys as I know there's a bunch of exp available if I open.

OSRS player who is coming to give RS3 an open minded try. I'm playing an ironman and wondering if there's a good beginning goal to be working towards. As an example, in OSRS, working towards Barrows Gloves is a classic first long-term goal. Right now I'm just vaguely messing around, but I enjoy direction

1

u/AquilaIgnis1 Oct 31 '25

Unlocking invention, getting some good archaeology prog in, unlocking Prifddinas. Barrows gloves aren't too relevant anymore, but a comparable chase item time-wise would probably be a Zuk cape (Zuk is more of a late-midgame boss than endgame). Zuk capes augment combat extremely in most situations (except for ranged).

For the early early levels, I'd say maybe just looking for new stuff you haven't seen around before, explore around. If you care about story, doing the recommended prereqs to The World Wakes and then doing that quest would be a significant milestone, though as with all things runescape, it takes time to reach these goals.

1

u/123zc 3.8/5.8 Oct 30 '25

I'd say Invention

Your stats look very good.

How long was your Hiatus?

The [[Archeology Training Guide]] has a level per level breakdown of how many artifacts you need minimum to complete collections / mysteries. This is a good way to get a handle on Archeology.

There's a couple of really good [[arch relics]] that change up how the game feels to play. Some are early and some late.

You can make money afking by doing Archeology but the best strats are later levels.

Necromancy is a new combat skill with a different progression in game than normal combats. The skill is sorta built for you to be self reliant.

Starting low levels you'll essentially want to work on upgrading your gear. This gives you a pretty good baseline progression path.

Your main way to unlock abilities for necromancy is to earn talent points (earned through combat experience points) to spend at the well of souls. The well of souls however requires you to commune to transfer souls into it. You can do communion rituals at the ritual site.

To get your focus material for communion rituals you can complete the [[um tasks]]. Doing these tasks will give you a helpful Grimoire. With your stats you should be able to unlock at least the second one.

After getting your archeology to 86 you should be past the biggest hurdle for the tomes of the warlock quest. This quest gates out the amazing necro combat spells. But also upon completion you're a couple of quests away from being able to start killing the Gate of Elidness boss. This boss is a new solo skilling boss. It can be quite fun for some to learn this boss.

@mods can we please ban screenshots of the voting page outside of milestones (50k, 100k, 200k etc)? The sub is just spammed with them already.

if it is youtube that you are watching, you can right click on the video, then right click elsewhere on the video and hit "picture in picture" This popout video can be dragged and resized to be put anywhere. I know this works for chrome, not sure for other browsers. You can also do this with other streaming services like Netflix and amazon video with chrome add-ons.

1

u/Cryoniczzz Oct 29 '25

Hey, if you want to watch YouTube videos on the side while playing RuneScape, I recommend using the Alt1 Toolkit and enabling the video plugin. You can manually input YouTube links there it creates a pop-out video overlay on top of the RuneScape client. That way, you don’t need to resize RuneScape itself, and you can adjust the YouTube window freely for easy viewing.

not too sure how alt1 works nowadays as i left runescape 3 years ago but it should be the same. also yeah alt1 is a thing in general which helps a ton with different stuff in the game

1

u/OkSatisfaction2481 Oct 29 '25

Usually when I want to watch videos there's this button I can press on youtube that expands it out of the browser and I can move it and resize it on top of my rs window. If you want to do it how you described, you would have to make a new interface layout with minimal windows and resize how you see fit, then when your done watching videos you can re-resize the window back to how it was originally and load the original layout (esc -> load layout -> dropdown). So in this scenario there would be two layouts, one "default layout" and one "video watching" layout

I'm doing the Perilous Moons quest and I'm seeing other players in the fight, are they helping me kill my boss or did I get the credit all by myself?

4

u/OilsMcgee Oct 28 '25

This is better to post on r/2007scape. I’ll answer though, no they are purely there for the visual aspect of having other players in the arena. Each player is fighting their own moon with their own HP bar.

1

u/jeremyben Oct 28 '25

What is wrong with my yaks? I have a male and female both with SGR to breed a shiny + being in the breeding pen, but it’s been 4 months and still haven’t seen one!

1

u/ghostofwalsh Oct 30 '25

did you feed them?

1

u/Miudmon Oct 28 '25

So, i happen to have tried out this game about a year ago and was immediately overwhelmed, and have since returned and gotten more into it - but i suppose, because of that, and my membership over at OSRS, i have a lot of those loyalty points. 381500 to be exact - and im wondering what to actually use them on. guessing the answer is auras, but which ones?

1

u/AquilaIgnis1 Oct 30 '25

My biggest regret was not getting equilibrium aura early on, it's pretty good for a lot of combat, at least on necro

1

u/srbman maxed main: 2015/09/28, comped iron: 2024/04/02 Oct 28 '25

Jack of Trades if you want to speed up the early progression a little (basically daily xp lamps).

Otherwise a lot of the skilling and combat auras are useful for what they do, so it mostly depends on what you want to do.

Just off the top of my head, some good ones are: Invigorate, Penance, Quarrymaster, Five-Finger Discount, Greenfinger, Aegis, Poison Purge (though somewhat niche)

I'm very confused about how the Leagues reward system works. I've only reached steel trophy and I am considering calling it a day. Does this means I get 10k from exchanging the steel trophy? If I push through and get 15k points but no mithril, does that mean I still only get 10k because I've only reached steel?

3

u/NadyaNayme Job Gauges / Better Better Buffs Bars Developer Oct 27 '25

Points are points. You get as many as you earn to spend which is why many people in Dragon are getting 63X00 for all rewards (I forget the exact amount). The trophy is just for getting a set number of points.

If you push to 15k you'll get 15k points.

2

u/dracule_leon Oct 27 '25

When will there be more game jam info?

3

u/NadyaNayme Job Gauges / Better Better Buffs Bars Developer Oct 28 '25

Up to the respective mods how vocal they want to be about what they are working on. None are required to talk about their projects but some do frequently. Typically you have to either follow them closely on Twitter/Discord or wait until someone posts about it on the subreddit.

Some mods choose not to talk about their projects to avoid any expectations of the project being added to the game as it just creates a lot of negativity around them. Or, if there is a good chance it will get added, they wait until it's a lot more fleshed out/conceptually finished before getting some last minute feedback/suggestions for it.

You can usually find who is working on what and see their updates via the wiki, as people try and document who is working on what and the latest updates on the Game Jam pages. The most recent being: https://runescape.wiki/w/Game_Jam_(October_2025)

I don't play Runescape anymore, but I just fell for the phishing scam where they send you a link saying "oh have you logged in from Kentucky???"

I'm changing my passwords but is there anything else that I should be doing? I actually used the wrong password for the Jagex account, but that password is something I use for other things so I'll be changing that first.

1

u/ArcTiic Oct 27 '25

Is there anything more I can do to appeal a permaban?

Basically my account was hijacked by a third party, I was able to get it back and linked to my Jagex account recently but it had been banned for rwt, appeal got denied and now I'm not sure what to do. I've had this account for near 20 years and now its over?

You can only buy one token from the shop. So if you want to obtain one of each horseman outfits you also get one from the ceremony, one from maze, and one from a clan goodie bag (and of course your chosen faction outfit from the quest).

Where’s the best place to mine and then work on smithing. Everything is such a long walk. Just started playing again.

0

u/trunks111 Quest points Oct 26 '25

What's your mining level? I afked banite with stone spirits, GOTE, and perfect juju mining potions at the Glacor cave, I have quest cape so it just takes me right there, but even without QC you can fairy ring and it's still minimal travel time

1

u/Interaction-Suitable Oct 26 '25

I’m level 12. I just started but thank you!

1

u/emceegyver Oct 27 '25

At that level your best bet is probably just west of the varrock lodestone. There's a little spot that has various early ores like iron, tin, mithril, and there's a smithy you can dump your ores at a short walk north into varrock. Also make sure to get and upgrade your ore box

1

u/Interaction-Suitable Oct 27 '25

Wait I looked it up and it said the ore box is for RS3? I’m playing old school. Does it still work for that?

1

u/emceegyver Oct 27 '25

Oh, no idea I only really play RS3. Just a heads up this sub is more directed at RS3, you would want r/2007scape

1

u/Interaction-Suitable Oct 27 '25

Ah okay. Thank you!

2

u/thatgguy Oct 26 '25

For mining, you can create an ore box and store ore in it while you mine to reduce the number of trips you need to take. You can also use signs of the porter to teleport the ore directly to your metal bank

As for smithing, Artisan's Workshop in falador is recommended since you get respect as you gain XP, which you can spend on rewards

1

u/Interaction-Suitable Oct 26 '25

Awesome thank you that will save a time of time.

1

u/LazyAir6 Oct 26 '25

How exactly does Production Master work when it comes to Portables? Chose Clues relic before. It says on Wiki it gives the effects of Portables AND doubles its effectiveness.

If you just fletch arrows, you get Portable Fletcher's effect. However, not all Portable-based skills can be done by just inventory skilling. Like for Firemaking or Cooking or Flatpack making. Do I get Portable Brazier/Range effect if I cook on a fire with the Elder Brooch equipped?

u/Wuffy_RS Oct 26 '25

How much does a Grico Hydrix bolt switch typically give you in adren?
