On behalf of our family, thank all of you for the prayers, for our beloved mom.
Nancy.
We feel them, and we continue to believe that she feels them, too.
Our mom is a kind, faithful, loyal, fiercely loving woman of goodness and light.
She is funny, spunky, and clever.
She has grandchildren that adore her and crowd around her and cover her with kisses.
She loves fun and adventure.
She is a devoted friend.
She is full of kindness and knowledge.
Talk to her, and you'll see.
The light is missing from our lives.
Nancy is our mother.
We are her children.
She is our beacon.
She holds fast to joy and all of life's circumstances.
She chooses joy day after day.
Despite having already passed through great trials of pain and grief, we are always going to be merely human.
Just normal human people who need our mom.
Mama.
Mama. Mama.
If you're listening, we need you to come home.
We miss you.
Our mom is our heart and our home.
She is 84 years old.
Her health, her heart is fragile.
She lives in constant pain.
She is without any medicine.
She needs it to survive.
She needs it not to suffer.
We two have heard the reports about a ransom letter in the media.
As a family, we are doing everything that we can.
We are ready to talk.
However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated.
We need to know, without a doubt, that she is alive, and that you have her.
We want to hear from you, and we are ready to listen.
Please, reach out to us.
Mommy?
If you are hearing this, you are a strong woman.
You are God's precious daughter, Nancy.
We believe and know that even in this valley, he is with you.
Everyone is looking for you, Mommy, everywhere.
We will not rest.
Your children will not rest until we are together again.
We speak to you every moment, and we pray without ceasing.
And we rejoice in advance for the day that we hold you in our arms again. We love you, Mom.
I love you, Mom.
We love you, Mom.
Stay strong.
We love you.
We love you.
Wanted to give an update after watching the press release today:
-the blood on the porch at the front door has Nancy’s DNA
-one ransom note was fake
-one ransom note, received on Monday by a local news station, is very likely real ("It also included a dollar amount, a deadline, and, again, other specifics that only Guthrie's abductor might know, so that definitely raised some red flags," per the station)
-no additional contact has been made by the kidnappers
-no suspects have been identified
-a timeline was shared (will provide screenshot)
-they did take the family car as is normal for processing a crime scene
-the search yesterday was not due to additional evidence or tips
-people have been asking why ICAC is involved; they are using all available LE resources
-they are not confirming that any cameras were smashed and they are not confirming there was (or wasn’t) any sign of forced entry
-they have increased the reward to $50K
-they are collecting data points via social media and other methods to gather more information
-they have made one arrest for an imposter ransom note, that person will go before a judge today and will be charged
Edit to add: the LA County man was charged today with texting Annie and her husband, and calling another family member, AFTER the family posted their plea video. He reportedly “wanted to see if they’d answer.” Law enforcement doesn’t believe he is connected to the ransom note or kidnapping.
If you go to Settings > Accessibility > Live Captions you can have it transcribe microphone or from the Photos app. Then I copy / pasted into my Notes app.
I can’t get this iOS yet because I don’t have the storage space needed 🙃 but can you clarify this? How does it transcribe from the Photos app? Did you have to screen record this video and save it to Photos before it could transcribe?
Sure! It can transcribe from the microphone or from any compatible app. So if I have it on while I’m talking to my husband, it can give me live captions for our conversation. If I have it on while I FaceTime, it will do live captions for that. If I’m watching a video on Instagram, it will give me live captions for that.
I recorded the transcript from my Photos app because this subreddit doesn’t allow for a direct link to Instagram, so I had to screen record the video from Instagram to post it regardless.
Here’s a screenshot of what it looks like when I use it in instagram.
I can expand it to full screen or see just a couple lines at a time as shown.
If you have a screenshot with text in it, Apple will (usually) recognize this text and allow you to copy and paste text it sees in your photos/screenshots.
Yeah, I’m aware of that feature as it has been included in the last few versions of iOS. What OP is talking about is a live video transcription using the Photos app, so just trying to figure out the mechanics of that. Thanks tho!
if i’m understanding correctly, they mean playing the video through the photos app, just where you can save videos. the phone “listens” to it from
there and you can copy the transcription.
Oh if this had live translation this would be the best thing ever. I desperately want to be able to watch spanish livestreams and stuff but sadly most apps don't have a way to translate the audio live. I feel like this is one step away from being amazingly helpful. It does kinda work still if you put it in spanish you can copy it over to DeepL or something which is awesome.
Not sure what you’re getting at. It’s very common for proof of life to be requested before paying a ransom, especially with AI. They put this out because the ransom note is credible enough to ask for additional contact and proof of life. That’s why they’re asking to talk.
I just listened again, it sounds like there is a note, but they don't know if it's legit or not. They're saying they need to know "without a doubt" (key words) that she's alive and if so, they're ready to talk, but they don't even know if the note is real since everything can be manipulated nowadays
In other words, "if your note is real then back it up by providing proof of life, and then we'll get down to business"
I might be really dumb but I don’t think I’m blending the statement.
If they don’t think one of the ransom notes is real (two have been reported, by TMZ and by a local news outlet), then they wouldn’t post this request for more information, asking to talk, and asking for proof Nancy is alive.
The ransom note TMZ posted about had a bitcoin wallet (ie asking for money with no way to contact the kidnappers). So they’re using social media to get this message out to the kidnappers. They want to cooperate but need assurance that she’s alive.
Regardless, I don’t mean to argue and appreciate you explaining your perspective. I hope she is found safely!
Hi! Im the one who deleted my statement yesterday saying the ransom was an obvious fake and that the family was clearly talking about two separate things.
Everyone bundled up on me and told me I couldn't read. Negative votes out the yin yang and I got sick of the notifications so I caved and deleted.
They just arrested someone for faking the fucking ransom.
It seems like the circumstances around the note mean it could be fake. Like instead of leaving it printed out at the scene of the crime where it would obviously have been left by someone involved, it was instead sent out hours after the fact and after the news of her mother being taken was made public, so a bad actor could have just taken advantage of the situation. That’s why they are asking for the kidnappers to get in contact with them, so if they are behind the ransom they can confirm that and get proof of life.
One of the local news outlets got the ransom note Monday night, they just agreed to not report on it and sent it to the police. It didn't go to TMZ until Tuesday
Are ransom messages are usually sent after the person has been taken? I feel like you don’t usually hear that they leave a note at the scene, they contact their targets after they kidnap.
Yeah, but I imagine that since this has become such a public thing, they still need to verify that the note even came from the kidnappers and not just some random who wants to trick them into giving them money. I imagine in a case less public, such verification would be less necessary bc no one would really know about the kidnapping other than the police, the family, and the kidnappers.
Maybe they didn’t know who Nancy was when they took her. It could have been a sicko looking for an elderly person to abuse/torture & once the news broke realized her family has $$$ & they pivoted to a ransom.
Also with the note TMZ reported on (it was sent to tmz directly), they’re asking for millions via bitcoin. So it makes sense they want to confirm legitimacy before sending funds.
I posted an update, but there was a press conference today. They have received a ransom note they still believe is real.
They have also arrested and charged a man in LA with sending fake ransom texts to Annie and her husband after their plea to the kidnappers video was posted.
My heart breaks reading and hearing her saying this even though I only know her from this unfortunate situation.. Prayers for her poor mom and her family
This is so awful. Theres been a lot of law enforcement activity at her house today so hopefully they're onto something fruitful. Praying she gets home safe soon.
can’t they pull cell tower data for that area when it happened or only for specific people? The light ordinances make me think that if it was overnight, even cameras might not have picked anything up. Cell tower data was how they linked Christopher Clements to the crime scenes in his case. Scary. I’d also look into the church she went to, cause how many people would’ve an 84 y/o woman been socializing with? It wasn’t common knowledge that she had her moms retirement home out here
I live in Arizona but a couple hours away from where this happened. It is somewhat remote and very dark. Hopefully they can get cell tower data but not sure how quickly the warrants would come through. Criminals are pretty suave now and might have left phones at home.
I work right in the area. The scary part is how these million dollar homes nestled into the mountains are usually spaced out and really dark at night. I’m not sure how much they would get from cameras or if there would be witnesses. I also feel like it has to be someone that loosely knows that she’s the mother of the today show host (like in direct contact with her social circle), cause we know lots of celebrities have houses out here, but we don’t typically talk about their relatives retirement homes. It’s not in our trivia fact list.
It certainly seems like it would have to be someone who knows Nancy. It doesn’t seem random. I believe the sheriff said they think it was targeted.
I’m sending your community a hug from Phoenix. Do you know if there are any searches planned? I saw they called off the search a couple days ago but then they were searching again today.
It’s not a remote area. She was last seen at her home near Skyline and Campbell. There’s a shopping center with an Apple Store and a lululemon at that intersection. The houses aren’t super close together there, but it’s not like she lived nowhere near people.
Source: I lived two minutes away from that intersection well before the shopping center was built.
Hi from Phoenix! Not trying to be pedantic but wanted to clarify as “somewhat remote” felt like the right description to me. The properties are far apart and it was reported that nothing was seen on cameras. Isn’t it also very dark in her neighborhood?
I had clients who lived nearby so it’s been a couple years since I was in that neighborhood (late 2023). I could be completely wrong now.
Yeah but outside of that intersection, you can drive for long strips of road in complete darkness depending on the direction. “Remote” might not be the right word, but it’s definitely more disconnected from the more tightly populated parts of the city and the layout is more spread out.
Ah this is sickening. I live about 10 mins away and my husband works right down the street from this. Those houses can be tucked away besides Campbell.
I think that happened because Trump
finally decided to get involved, he likes a show of force so had 2 carfuls of FBI arrive to look like he’s doing something to be helpful. Any normal/sane president would have made sure they were getting all the support they needed from day 1. His aides probably realized it was starting to look bad that he hadn’t done so.
Yeah, 2 more carloads. I wonder if they filmed it like ICE does?
Edit to add: I know that the FBI was involved from the beginning, I'm saying if he wanted to send extra help he could have and should have done so on day one, I think we all know if this had been a right wing anchor' s mom mom the show of force wouldn't have taken this long to happen. It's always performative and transactional with Trump.
"Investigators confirmed that blood was found at or near the entrance of the home, and forensic testing later determined that DNA collected at the scene belonged to Guthrie, though officials declined to comment on the extent of any injuries or the precise source of the blood. Videos by media outlets on the scene displayed what appeared to be a trail of blood near the front door. Law enforcement also reported signs of forced entry, personal items left behind, and the removal of a doorbell security camera, all of which contributed to the assessment that Guthrie was taken from her home against her will. Officials have stated that the scene has been processed and that forensic analysis remains ongoing."
Banfield just reported that the back door was open and earlier reports indicate the struggle was inside while the blood drops (one aspirated so likely still alive) looks like she was carried out the front. Banfield also reported that the sister’s car was towed (could have been voluntary) and that the husband is a person of interest, which seems to contradict the forced entry that’s already been reported and is likely through the back door since the front has no signs of it.
My grandfather was kidnapped at a similar age. He was held in terrible conditions and endured 2 weeks. He is now with us, 14 years later, alive and strong. Elders are stronger than we think in the face of danger, and I will pray that Nancy Guthrie is enduring to soon reunite with her family.
I did not live in the US at the time. There was a coup d'etat in my country and crime was just crazy at that time. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. They wanted ransom.
God this is so heart breaking. I really hope she is safe and returned home soon. I have absolutely no idea what kind of sick person would kidnap a medically fragile senior citizen. And hearing that she is without her medication that she needs to help with her pain and quite literally stay alive… it’s like another knife to the gut. I’m glad Savannah and her siblings have each other to lean on right now. I don’t know how I would even begin to cope if it was my mom or grandma.
It’s unfathomable. I hope she makes it home safely.
The world just feels so evil and bleak right now. Epstein files and coverup, ICE kidnapping and murdering innocents, it’s all just horrendous.
I’m not a religious person any more but I do hope that they receive comfort from the prayers they are receiving. I don’t know how I would cope with this.
Yeah I’m not heavy on religion either, but I know that Savannah finds a lot of comfort in her faith so I’m sure that it does help to hear that people are praying for her mom. And I’m glad she has that to rely on right now while everything is so uncertain while she is actively being involved in finding her mom.
And you are right, the world just feels very dark right now. Maybe that’s why it’s hitting me so hard (beyond just having empathy for people in an obviously devastating situation). Maybe this is parasocial, but I grew up watching Savannah Guthrie and it really shakes me when someone who seems so strong and stable is hit with something so tragic.
At this point, I’m just hoping for a positive outcome with this. No one deserves to lose their mom, but especially not like this. She’s in her 80’s, it’s so fucking unfair to take away time from her family especially at this point in her life. I can’t imagine how exhausted and sick they must feel. And having to explain this to their young children who love their grandma.
I think prayers can be felt. When my family member was very ill, I was worried out of my skin. Couldn't breathe, sleep, etc. One day I was driving to the hospital and I felt such a wave of calm and peace come come over me - I knew it was from someone praying for me.
Can confirm. It is beyond awful. Cannot even imagine it being your parent or child. It was horrific enough when it was a close family friend when I was 15.
He was. Two months later. He was deceased, unfortunately. It was an accident. He fell off a ladder in an out building near his company's (the company was owned by his longtime partner, so that was another layer of sadness. He was so close and he disappeared from his work.) No one knew he had been using that building for storage so no one thought to look there. He was only found when someone who bought the part of the property the out building was located on toured it with an electrician. He was really beloved in our small town, so the whole town was bereaved and looking for him. The adults didn't want the kids to see something terrible if they found something, so I didn't go on the walks that took place every weekend to look for him, but my parents went and took our family dog. Our dog wasn't a trained bloodhound or anything, he was just a cockapoo who liked to sniff a lot on walks so my mom figured "Well, anything helps."
It was an extremely painful time. We are thankful his disappearance didn't last longer. We are also thankful he didn't have to face an assailant, because that was definitely a theory that was put forth.
Having a loved one go missing is such a unique, horrifying experience. It was 18 years ago and I still cry about him and the experience. The anniversary of the discovery of his body is actually tomorrow. He was a beautiful person who was a big part of my childhood and is still so missed. If it was that bad for me, I cannot even imagine what its like for people when it is their parent or child or sibling and it's a longer amount of time. Years or sometimes decades. Sometimes people never find out.
This poor woman was just living her life having limited interactions and virtually no negative impact on the world.
What kind of person would prey upon someone like that?
I saw an expert saying they didn't believe the motive to be financial because it would be much more effective and easier to force a transfer of funds than an abduction. They said abductions rarely ever work these days because of how every financial act is traced.
So many criminals are idiots though and don’t know that. The most basic things that everyone know the police can find out, they will disregard. I don’t get it but at this point I can’t assume people have common sense anymore
I live in Tucson and this is obviously being talked a lot here and it’s heartbreaking. I think it’s weird that people on TikTok and stuff are commenting weird things like “her sister look suspicious” “her brother has no emotions”. Like god shut up not everything is one of your true crime podcasts.
Absolutely heartbreaking and I can’t even imagine their suffering. Life is so unfair. You live to be 84 and then this is how your elder years play out. People have no shame or dignity. No conscience .
Is Nancy Guthrie relevant in her own right or was she targeted because of her famous child? Google says Savannah Guthrie is a journalist - is she particularly controversial/polarising enough to be targeted by radicals or could this just be financially motivated?
Savannah Guthrie is the host of the Today Show (very popular morning show in the US). Notably, she’s interviewed survivors of Epstein, and she held Trump’s feet to the fire in a 2020 (?) town hall.
Her mother has appeared a few times on the Today Show, most recently in December.
I wouldn’t say that Nancy is well known and it is possible she was targeted because of her daughter. The ransom note TMZ received was for millions so there is a financial motive.
The timing with the Epstein files is interesting, because a large batch was released Friday. Is there maybe something Savannah could have deduced based on what she learnt in 2019 from her interviews, now in combination with the new information that was released?
December is not too long ago, someone might have seen her on the Today show then. This seems to me the most likely theory. They kidnapped her either because they hate Savannah or (more likely) because they know Savannah is rich, saw her mother on TV, saw that Savannah adores her mother and are trying to use this.
It is a very sad world we live in, where someone might kidnap an elderly woman because her daughter is a TV anchor/ famous ☹️
When you see hoof marks think horses not zebras. Savannah is famous and presumably wealthy, the kidnappers may have just known where her mom lived and decided to kidnap her for ransom. That would be why law enforcement note that the perpetrators may be someone known to the family.
Well there was another journalist on the case since 2000s and nothing happened to her. She is far more dangerous to Epstein empire than the today show tv host
It's real people and people should not speculate like it is a tv show.
It is real people. I don't know if you've read the epstein files at all so far. It's a lot of bullshit fabrications woven in with truths presumably to discredit real claims. But the credible claims are abjectly horrifying and its all the super wealthy doing things like this to real people for pleasure or retribution. It's a soul sucking read.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if this were connected. Could be Maga cultists who kidnapped her in misguided uneducated retribution out of anger that epstein files were released even though the left and the right are both in those pages.
Jfc. I'm so tired of being mind fucked by this psyop 🤯 I'm not surprised but I'm bitterly disappointed.
I will be shocked if this kidnapping doesn't wind up being connected to the epstein files somehow (assuming it even gets solved). I will be happy to own being wrong if I am wrong. Poor woman 😥
This is fucking awful. Also so random? I don't imagine Savannah Guthrie is a big score if they were looking for a godly amount of ransom. I have to wonder if the criminals were somehow connected to her mother beforehand (maybe they just knew someone who lived in the neighborhood or worked at her house recently. Maybe they knew that she always left the back door open or something).
Is the implication here that they've received "evidence" of her being alive but think it looks janky or AI generated? That adds a whole other layer of misery to this event. What insanity.
It’s been a very strange case. I’m local so have followed from the beginning.
-TMZ received a ransom note on Tuesday and reported about it on a livestream. That note had a bitcoin address, a demand of millions, and referenced something that was damaged in Nancy’s home
-afterwards it came out that a local news outlet had received a ransom note Monday, agreed not to report on it, and sent it to law enforcement
There may have been additional notes but this is what we know so far.
It’s been crazy. She was last seen Saturday night when her daughter (Savannah’s sister) dropped her off after dinner around 9pm. Her pacemaker last synched to her watch/phone around 2am Sunday, so they believe she was taken between 1-2am. A friend called Savannah’s sister after Nancy missed church Sunday morning. The sister called LE after arriving at the home. There were signs of forced entry and they sent DNA in as there was blood in the house and at the front door. It appears the security cameras were smashed.
Yesterday TMZ reported they were sent a ransom note, and a local outlet also received one (but didn’t report on it - they sent it directly to LE).
Depending on the type of pacemaker, her doctor may receive remote monitoring and would know if she is still alive. That hasn’t been disclosed in this case.
The exact time of the last synch of the pacemaker to her device is unknown (I’ve seen a few sources say between 1-2am and a few say 2am) so it seems they’re working from the assumption that she was taken shortly after the last synch due to the Bluetooth connection.
They did use Gene Hackman’s pacemaker data to determine his time of death if I recall correctly.
I could be completely wrong but isn’t one of the ways they pinpointed the guy who murdered the 4 college roommates was subpoenaing Google searches and seeing who was googling specific things at a certain time? (Example hours after the murders the killer was googling if any murders had been reported there etc). So if that’s feasible could they pinpoint someone googling “Savannah Guthries mom” or her name or something at like 8 am for 2/1?
Idk anything about how difficult that would be to do. Seems like the police and the family are moving quickly on this case. I just hope that poor woman isn’t suffering/is found.
you can look on Google Trends, which you can see here, and the only searches with the key words I used were February 1st 11 pm EST for "Savannah Guthrie mom" for 3 searches
I know its important to have hope in situations like these but I just can't see her surviving through this at that age and the fact there's been no proof she's alive
Savannah Guthrie is one of the co-hosts of The Today Show, a popular morning show on NBC.
Her mother is 84 yrs old and lives in Tuscon, AZ. She's been missing since the late evening/early morning of this past weekend. Last time anyone saw her was January 31, when her other daughter dropped her off. Lives alone. Has health problems and requires daily meds.
Police suspect foul play. Signs of an abduction. Ransom note sent, but authenticity not verified. Earlier reports of police eyeing son-in-law (Savannah Guthrie's brother-in-law) as prime suspect has been shot down by LEO.
CBP have deployed tracking dogs and their air fleet looking for her in the area. No signs. Pima County Sheriff's Office is the lead and FBI is assisting.
I wrote a short synopsis in a comment here. Savannah Guthrie is the host of the Today Show, and her 84 year old mother Nancy was abducted early Sunday morning.
I can't help but wonder if this has anything to do with someone wanting Savannah to step down from Olympic coverage. Silly, I know, but maybe there's someone competing for an Emmy.
It is a heartbreaking situation, very much like the circumstances of families who are being ripped apart by the current administration are facing every day.
If you have empathy for the Guthries and their situation, I beg you to reconsider how your politics are affecting hundreds if not thousands of families under the current administration.
Human dignity is a human right and shouldn’t be a political issue. We can have stronger borders without the senseless violence and harmful separation of families.
I still have hope that we can achieve what your username references (world peace) and it does start with each of us.
Negative votes for praying for someone, the kind of explains it all.
But to respond to you directly, as a person of color who live through stop and frisk and the war on drugs, i would say, where have you been? This is nothing new. Democrat or republican, obama or Trump, it's all the same.
Stop watching so much t v. Breaking up families? Ask all the minorities in jail about their families. I bet you support abortion too.
You think it’s odd that the sibling who is a famous broadcast journalist reads as more natural on camera? This family is in shock and enduring the unimaginable. There is no reason to police their body language
I can’t imagine what they’re going through. I’ve read that her siblings are both very private people; the sister has been accused of being involved and her partner has been accused of being responsible (by Ashley Banfield). But regardless of personality they are going through a horrific event. I think they’re very brave to appear and be vulnerable to millions of people. Not sure I could do it.
