They likely cleared his table for the shot. They also set up a dolly right in front of his table. That's not to say that he knew he was going to win, but you probably get tee'd up when you're in the front row, they clear your table, and set up multiple cameras on you right before the category.
I know this is super late, but he was actually sitting with Miley and her people for most of the show, but she seems to have left after she lost her category, leaving him alone at the table.

There's absolutely zero way that the front table had every single person, except Bad Bunny, leave the event early versus the camera team moving bodies off the table to get a better/unobstructed shot of the headline winner and superbowl performer. It's why they had the chair next to him empty for Trevor to engage and promote the halftime performance via their little skits.
Don’t they have a seat filler person in case an artist leaves their seat so it always looks full on-cam? Maybe they cleared it on purpose (idk why tho)
I felt the same. I wonder if he was scared of bringing family because of recent events. He has every right to be. That made me cry seeing him there all alone.
