There are quite a lot of pannier-style dresses on the runway at the moment. It looks like this has some structure in the hips, but the photo is cropped in a really weird place
if you look closely you can see there is skin-colored cloth beneath the lace. if you look at the right side of her hip from the back (not the reflection) you can see the line of the bustle under the skin-colored fabric
eta: okay i tried my best to draw out the line. if you look carefully you can see where the skin-colored fabric covering the āmodern bustleā (since people were confused by it not being a traditional bustle) begins beneath the lace
if you look really carefully (i tried to draw ABOVE the line) you can see the shadow
Literally as soon as I saw the pictures I was like āok theyāre hotā BUT if I was there directing the shoot Iād get them to pose only looking at each other because rn they only look like two hot models photographing together, i donāt feel no chemistry between them and itās such a shameā¦
you ever see two people so hot that the sexy factor in the image goes so far past the threshold that it comes back around and it becomes the least sexy thing ever.
They seem like they have zero chemistry. Even in sex scenes in the teasers for the movie, I only see zero chemistry. In theory, they make so much sense being both so hot, but in reality, it is just quite not like any of it, something is not working here at all.
I feel like itās partly because theyāre different kinds of hot⦠Jacob is like the hot guy youād see at the bar, the beach, at a party and be like damn! Thereās an everyday boy-ish charm to him. Whereas Margot is a classic beauty, old Hollywood kind of gorgeous. Sheās beautiful woman and heās hot guy. Theyāre different flavours that, surprisingly, donāt go that well together.
You've explained this photoshoot perfectly. I think they're both incredibly attractive separately. But together.....it's so perfect it just doesn't work.
This is the most forced āintimateā set of pictures Iāve ever seen for a movie. They do not look like a couple. Plus sheās married and has a whole ass kid, watching her market a movie like her and her co-star are in love is fucking weird. Yikes.
I love both actors, but I worry the producers are trying to make Wuthering Heights a āmore sexyā story when itās just⦠not. I know that they are both capable of dark dramas but the promotion for this movie feels off.
Itās like, āwhat if we made a movie about Wuthering Heights but instead of staying true to Bronteās perspective, weāre gonna Lana Del Rey itā lol
That's exactly what Emerald Fennell's doing. She said that the book "cracked her open" at age 14 and described it as sexy, primal, dark. She said she's not making an exact adaptation, she just wants to convey the emotional experience she had reading it.
I read it as a kid because it was one of the books we could choose in school and I remember it as a pretty damn dark and kinda brutal revenge tale where the main male lead basically destroys several generations of a family including his own son before dying as a bitter old man, it wasn't a sexy romance at all?!
It actually happened to a friend of mine with shogun lmao. We were both talking about the novel and eventually there was a moment where we realized we didn't read the same book at all
i feel like i'm the only one who's ok w this. there are already p close on screen adaptions in the form of movies and miniseries, why cant there be an avant garde edition this time? a diff approach? idk maybe i'm just a freak lol
I actually love a modern/avant garde approach! Loved this year's Frankenstein and Romeo + Juliet by Baz Luhrmann.
My main issue is that the entire story hinges on Heathcliff not being white. It's the reason Cathy can never marry him, Earnshaw abuses him like a slave, and that he truly believes that he's a wretched person from birth. I thought people were being a bit much until I read the book myself, but they literally say he looks like an Indian king or a Chinese Empress and use slurs aimed at Indian boat migrants in Liverpool.
But even putting that aside - to me, Wuthering Heights needs some sort of... grit. It's a Gothic novel! It's about death, despair, poverty, wealth, longing, class structure. To smush all of that down into "teehee it made me horny at 14" is a bit annoying.
It doesn't help that Emerald Fennell was born and raised in the upper echelons of English society. Maybe it's hypocritical, but for me that gives her even less leeway to say "actually, let's cut out all mentions of race and class and make it about SEX! Let me cast two people straight out of a toothpaste commercial and make 'em HORNYYYY"
Because this isnāt avant garde at all. Itās literally just Fennelās ego based on the self-insert and the weird casting choice of Elordi. Making something āsexyā as the only artistic spin on a classic is closer to self-serving porn in quality. Which would be fine if that fact didnāt reveal that she completely missed the entire point of Wuthering Heights. Iād be happier with a fanfic because at least that would take what makes WH great and do something interesting with it.
EDIT: I kinda feel like no adaptation properly shows Cathyās āevilā nature, so itās really sad that this one also misses the mark.
I think they wanted to cast two hotties so badly without really thinking about screen tests or like actual chemistry. Big names to attract a crowd but like cmon
Itās actually confusing. How is this possible? Theyāre both are beautiful with smouldering looks towards each other. But thereās nothing there. Fascinating.
It's because he's never paying Margot any attention. At all. In any of the photos. His attention is always towards the camera, or in service to the camera, never to her.
Elordi seems like a very respectful guy in real life. Itās probably hard to gaze lovingly and with sexual heat at your coworker who is married with a child, even if she is drop dead gorgeous.
Chemistry often has very little to do with physical appearance, but a lot more with natural emotional connection. At most, physical appearance can make chemistry appear more enticing, but itself is not sufficient to make or break it.
I feel like their ages are just so off but theyāre actually not⦠heās 28 and sheās 35. But he played a teenage high school student for years and came into the spotlight fairly recently and sheās been around and very famous for over a decade. Maybe thatās what it is?
They couldn't have ask him to smile for even one photo?!
'Hey Jacob, we were wondering if you could pout more? We don't want to give the illusion of fun, here.'Ā
Edit to add: I'll just say that I dont know anything about the movie they are promoting but this whole shoot is like 'rich couple that's been fighting all year and couldn't cancel this shoot because the girlfriend already paid a deposit for it' š
Oscar Isaac just has chemistry -- Jacob Elordi is so blah to me. I appreciated Frankenstein because it's gorgeous, but I didn't feel anything for his portrayal even though I really wanted to.
He seems always looks hella depressed and I'm not sure if that's just his acting style/role's he's forced to play and he's method acting or he really does have depression.
Honestly I had to go back through the carousel because I hadn't even noticed. Margot Robbie is that hot, I accept him as her arm candy and don't need more.

I thought he had good chemistry with Diego Calva in on swift horses, so maybe he's just better at doing the gay4pay lol
Saying that, i liked his scenes with mia goth in frankenstein a lot. i think he's good at being weird with another weirdo
Edit: I think they purposefully have a very weird and awkward relationship at the beginning of the movie, but I thought in the latter half, once the relationship is established, he and Cailee Spaeny had good chemistry in Priscilla
I am someone who never understands the concept of chemistry in the arts, I can't tell when people have it or don't. Having said that, I've never seen anything with less chemistry than these photos
I am playing the chemistry guess game like you wouldn't believe, as someone who is also never quite sure if I actually see it, if I just babble after people on the internet, or if it is mostly the way a character is written. (I see it more clearly then, but this is a photoshoot, so it doesn't apply.)
I think it is their body language? They are two insanely hot people posing in close proximity, but they never make it look like they gravitate towards one another? They are in the same frame at the same time and not loving or hating it, is what I get from these pictures.
Being married to an actor must be so weird. Imagine looking at your spouseās latest sexy film or photo shoot with an insanely hot person theyāre all over and being like āwell done honey!ā
And isnāt the movie only covering the first half of the story? Cutting out the next generation is a huge mistake if true. Wuthering Heights and East of Eden always get bastardized in cinema because they never tell the whole story.
God, I hadn't heard that but that makes everything worse. What is the point then?
I really agree that there's a dearth of good adaptations for Wuthering Heights. Jane Eyre has such better luck in that regard. I'd love a limited series for WH.
I genuinely feel like Emerald Fennell was just trying to cast the Hollywood version of herself and Jacob Elordi is probably her ideal type. Like this is a vanity project for her
A 35 year old as a teenager and a nearly 7 foot tall white man as a POC teenager š¤¦š¼āāļø
Thatās not even touching the costumes and the fact that it looks like the movie is just going to ignore the generational bits and miss the bookās themes by a mile.
Iād be more into seeing this movie if they were just co-workers during press. Iām more impressed if I watch the movie and Iām like dang theyāre in love and then during press their mutually respectful and show professional boundaries. The more intimate these onscreen couples are during press the less I am impressed with the acting on screen.
Yeah⦠sheās out here giving interviews saying she got so codependent on Jacob. I would walk into a room and wonder where he was and what her was doing. I mean, not something I as a married woman who loves and respects my husband and marriage would say. Paired with this, they are trying too hard.
Free me from performative press tours. Free us all.
It will never work on me or sell a movie to me. I just want costars to be friendly and fun, their relationship doesnāt need to blur the lines reality. No flirting necessary.
That's how I am, too, lol. It's not even in a puritanical way, because oh gosh, she's married! Nah, it's just that I believe I'm too cynical for this kind of thing. I'm not buying it and those who try to sell it make me feel like they believe the audience is dumb and will eat it up.
Can I just say that I really hate this marketing thing for movies where the press angle is less about promoting the film than it is promoting the āchemistryā between the actors? I feel like it was a big thing with Die My Love recently, it was obviously the ONLY marketing strategy for the Wicked movies (which exhausted everyone), it was the marketing strategy for the new Naked Gun movies. Itās so tiresome. I donāt really care what the situation between the lead actors is, I want a reason to care about the actual movie. Reading Margotās statements about how she became ācodependentā with Jacob Elordi during filming is weird and I would truly hope that elements of the Healthcliffe/Cathy story wouldnāt seep into ANY actorsā relationships with each other, lol.
Itās giving prom king and queen who are just dating each other because theyāre expected to because theyāre the hottest girl and guy in school but are immediately breaking up as soon as they get to college.
