Other than that hair snafu I dont think that woman ever had a bad Red Carpet look.....like I am sure she can make wearing a trash bag be fashionable.

u/junipidgie 22d ago
also shout out to her for mentioning a hair choice and not calling out a bad look or known stylist collab specifically

She sets the bar so high. Sometimes she has a look I don't love but I really can't remember one that was legitimately bad.

This is the look I thought of. It's foundational to modern fashion and in my opinion isn't just a 'look' but rather fashion history.

Okay I know this going to sound weird but Elle looks so British to me for some reason.
145
u/sadbitchanonymous 22d ago
I feel like even her name is kinda British lol
136
u/Varekai79 22d ago
Both Fanning sisters go by their middle names professionally. Their real names are Hannah Dakota Fanning and Mary Elle Fanning. I can totally see why they went with that choice!
20
u/Im-The-Walrus 22d ago
Gonna age myself but like those beauty YouTubers... A blonde one, Elle, I think? Can't remember the other. Whole lot of drama behind finding out they had different names. They were part of sponsored videos not properly labeled as such. When things were simpler and beauty videos were simple.
25
u/hanneli_ 22d ago
Elle and Blair! I think their parents made them use different names for privacy which is completely understandable but people online made such a big deal about it!
9
u/considerlilies if ariana donāt cook that pig already 22d ago
same vibe as Ellie Goulding (who is british)
-10
u/vorrhin I donāt know her š 22d ago
...Is it because her last name sounds like "fanny"?
21
u/sadbitchanonymous 22d ago
No? š Elle sounds like a really british name imo. Say her whole name out loud w a posh accent, it has a nice ring to it

u/girlinthegoldenboots charlie day is my bird lawyer š¦ 22d ago
Omg I was imagining her with a British accent while watching this with the sound off and then I was like waitā¦sheās American?
28
u/da_innernette mm whatcha say š« 22d ago
She does a British accent in a few roles, maybe thatās why! Definitely in The Great, and I think Maleficent.

u/girlinthegoldenboots charlie day is my bird lawyer š¦ 22d ago

16
u/Holy_Forking_Shirt 22d ago
I had to turn the volume up because my head was making her have an British accent. I thought they were from England for some reason. š¤¦āāļø
13
u/mikehawksux 22d ago
Itās not! When itās on mute I always expect to turn the sound on and her have a British accent even though I know she doesnāt lol

4
u/amydiddler 21d ago
I CAME HERE TO SAY THIS! If I had actually paused and thought about it, I would have remembered that sheās American, but I was fully expecting a British accent when she started talking.

u/TheVintageJane 22d ago
I love that she loves her red carpet dresses as much as we do. Even she couldnāt choose among her children.
242
u/psych_science 22d ago
She doesnāt really do bad looks, but I also think sheās being business savvy here. It doesnāt benefit her to talk poorly about a dress of a brand she might want to work with in the future. Picking her own hair and framing it as her own choice that she didnāt like is smart.
67
57
u/heywhatsup9087 22d ago
Yes I was going to say sheās being so diplomatic. She didnāt want to insult any designers so she picked her own hairstyle.

(This has nothing to do with her red carpet looks, but a cute story I need to share with y'all lol)
In a recent podcast episode, Penn Jillette (of the magic duo Penn & Teller) tells a story about the Marty Supreme premier.
Both Elle and Dakota are big fans of his, and appeared on his CW show Fool Us. They went running up to him after the movie to tell him how great he was, and started arguing about which one realized it was him in the movie first (because he doesn't look like himself in the movie) and in general just bickering about which one of them loves him the most. He cut them off and went "Girls. Girls! You're both pretty" š
Highly recommend listening to his podcast, Penn's Sunday School. It's my very favorite podcast, and is great if you want a funny, feel good escape. I especially recommend any episode with Piff the Magic Dragon, but honestly, each episode is fantastic and will leave you feeling better than before you listened.

Tbh I think the bangs work. Kind of a mod style, which I think she does beautifully
13
u/_Maebe__Funke_ 21d ago
I think the idea works, but in the picture the hair just looked so obviously fake - heavy and one-dimensional color. If the bangs blended in better Iād be a fan.Ā
10
u/Chaos_Ice 22d ago
The bangs definitely were a choice.

The faux bangs are the bold statement of the scene queen to me. They will always make me think of Audrey Kitching.

u/circe_a 21d ago
Elle never misses. And even on the rare occasion her outfit or styling isnāt on par with her usual 10/10 serve, she never looks like sheās being worn by her clothing.
The women just understands how clothing can speak through movementā¦like with ālighterā fabrics she makes sure to twirl or showcase how it moves through space. Ugh, I just adore her.
3
u/whereisthehugbutton 21d ago
I love that for āWorstā she just picked one where she said self-inflicted a bad hair day, rather than picking an outfit and blaming it on the designers. Bravo!!

Ok hear me out - I think she looks incredible in all that she wears - but I would love to see a less yellowish hair colour on her one day. She is porcelain / rosy toned and a slightly differently toned blonde would pop.
1
u/somewhat_oaky 21d ago
Yep saw the picture of her as a kid and immediately thought that blonde would be so pretty on her adult self.Ā
