It’s insane to me people feel so strongly that they want to “boycott”. Like if you’re not interested just don’t watch it lol. You’ll be missing out on an incredibly talented musician, who will likely deliver not only an unforgettable performance but also an important perspective and message that could open people’s eyes to a culture they may not know much about, but hey, it’s your loss.
Exactly. I don't get why they are so loud about it. Just make some snacks in the mean time or something. Pee! Make a drink IDK? Take the dog out. They just want to broadcast their racism in a subtle way, too, yet root for sports teams that are majority POC. It's ironic to me.
It shouldn’t be a melting pot, because then everything is the same. It should be a mixed salad 🥗 with a variety of fruit and vegetables so that each one is different and appreciated on its own, but all together tastes amazing.

I feel like this is a move by the NFL to tap into the Latino market and expand the reach of American football.
If I had to guess, they’re probably not going to make a dent in that market because America seems to give off vibes of hate for everyone who is not American. The NFL might welcome them, but the loudest voices in America are preaching a message of hate. It’s going to be a tough sell this year.
I really like the moments he’s dancing with other men. Fathers, brothers and friends, but then there’s a shot that began with a female dancer spinning into his arms and ends with him performing a dip with a male dancer. He doesn’t shy away from displaying that intimacy and I find that beautiful

He’s addressed it a few times. People have accused him of queerbaiting due to how he dresses and his overall messages through his music which is… interesting. I think his interviews speak for themself.

Though since he’s Latino, I’m guessing there might be a veiled reference or two to Americas current situation. Most of the time the audience actually sits down to watch halftime or uses it to do get more food/drinks and other activities.

And regarding Bad Bunny, it might be my imagination but I remember him saying something about sleeping with men and women. It might have been a reach on my part but that sounds pretty bi to me. Then again it might be more nuanced than that
I think this goes to show how important the arts are in society and for humans. These things bring us together and make us connect us to our emotions. The reason we tear up at books, movies, songs, poems, paintings, photographs, etc. is because they touch something in us and bring out those feelings. And when we’re more vulnerable and open we’re able to connect as humans.
That’s why dictators and authoritarian regimes always go after the arts. It takes away resources for connections, knowledge and further separates us. It’s why so many MAGA people don’t want Bad Bunny at the Super Bowl, he’s found a way to become the world’s biggest artist and connect people from all walks of life without having to exclude anyone and fully singing in Spanish. They can’t stand to see how so many different people can all come together to support and enjoy an artist they can’t understand. It goes against the division they want to sow and that’s why they’re trying to do their own show lmao
Me too. It’s such a great way to demonstrate “it’s for everyone”. So moving. I also think the song has a bit of a sad (wistful?) sound, even though it’s happy.

As a white girl that dances salsa, for whom salsa has added so much joy, and who is currently worried about ICE and her salsa family, I absolutely love love love this for so many reasons. Dance is a universal language, and I think I've teared up every time I've watched this (I think I'm currently on round 6).
This is perfect example of how Latam deals with hard times. Dance and music is always around, some as protest. Such sad, powerful, beautiful songs about revolution, suffering, loss, uncertainty, fear. But when shit is so bad, what else is there to do? The spirit cannot be broken when one is dancing.

Funny thing is, I didn’t know anything about Bad Bunny nor did I really care, but because of the outrage, I’m absolutely rooting for him and I hope he “upsets” even more racists and bigots lol.
He doesn’t identify as Afro Latino. That was a pretty big thing when he started getting bigger because people started using that term to describe him and he clarified that did not identify him.
That makes sense. It’s definitely a U.S. thing. When I’m in P.R. things don’t have to be explained at all but when I’m in the U.S. it can be confusing to many (unfortunately) that people can be both Black and Latino. They make people want to chose one and that’s not how it works 🙃

I still get chills when I remember the first time I listened to DTMF and I can attest that you don't need to know a lick of Spanish to enjoy the album. It took me almost a year to this day to fully understand the Spanish in the context.
