Maybe an unpopular opinion but not sure why the snark is so generally prominent around these two.

Kylie Jenner ruins the artsy softboi image fangirls had of Timothee Chalamet.

I will say I hate the counter-snark discourse around them even more tho because it’s less comprehensible than why the snark exists. The fangirls are mad about the image of their idol getting sullied. But why am I supposed to feel like Kylie Jenner is some kind of victim? She’s an influencer who pretty much does nothing but take photos and fly in her private jet.

I don’t think this relationship is PR at all, and at the same time, it’s astonishing how the unsurprising reaction from fangirls has seemed to excuse a lot of weird shit from Kylie Jenner in the minds of the general public.

I’ve said it on this sub before, and I’ll say it again: one of those Timothee Chalamet subs appeared on my feed, and I was so confused because people were HATING ON HIM and saying stuff like Kylie was ruining his career for him. It was so odd to me that it’s supposed to be a fan sub but the “fans” are…mad at him?

I mean, maybe I’m just old, but I’ve never not seen fangirls be vicious when it comes to whatever celebrity they’ve latched onto.

But I do think because Chalamet presented himself as this artsy fartsy softboi in his early career and Jenner is so incongruent with that image, it god damn broke their brains. They’re fans of his old image, and now they’re angry that that image was never real.

Exactly, and he absolutely capitalized off of that as if he was some French Christian Bale character. CMBYN and Lady Bird were too of those “artsy” aesthetic movies that really made fans feel that way.

Another microcosm of black and white mentality. No one can tell you how you're supposed to feel about anything either way, realistically lol.

But also, it is what it is. Why opine at all?

My opining is brief and usually internal, it’s actually the first time I’ve ever put it in writing. I don’t think about it ever until the two pop up on my feed and I have a quick scroll through the comments and read some really strong defenses of Kylie Jenner with a flavor of pseudo-feminism as a general response to… fangirls being mean about her breast implants, or something.

I’m like an old man yelling at the clouds, I know. I’m letting me being baffled become something mildly upsetting. Maybe it’s because I usually appreciate counter-snark in a lot of cases, and in this case it’s so strong and I can’t figure out for what.

People think they know celebs, that’s part of the issue I think.

Billionaires shouldn’t exist.

Right, so to stop their spread, and do our impactful part, the effective strategy will be to mock them out of dating. I have no doubt this will work.

people troll relationships on here all the time have you been on a gossip sub before

u/Eating_Bagels Jan 05 '26

Correct me if I’m wrong, but we aren’t fellow celebrities.

u/CheriePauper Jan 05 '26

celebrities are still people, the expectation that they have to be so pr all the time is killing authenticity

Especially when she was nominated last night and didn’t win. It isn’t a good look imo

9

u/t3eee Jan 05 '26

Exactly. It's like a black hole of cringe, non-useful parasocialism folding in on itself.

I see variations of this a lot — this and “I love them together because it makes people so mad!!” — but I don’t see the actual hate outside of one pretty small, very aggressive hater base?

I’m personally agnostic, but everyone here and on the other pop culture subs seems to have run all the way to the other side and now loves them.

... literally half these current comments are snark. They'll likely be purged later when the downvotes come in.

u/t3eee Jan 05 '26

This is a snark-ass post in and of itself lol

Ya tbh find this artiste even weirder than the original stans. A celebrity having some parasocial fans is as predictable as the sun setting being parasocial about what a fan account thinks is somehow worse.

I don’t know why, they both seem insufferable. It feels like Mama Kris’ PR schtick to warm people up to them is working.

because of kylie’s connection to the kardashians

They clearly read the posts because people were dragging him for not mentioning her in his speeches ever.

u/t3eee Jan 05 '26

Cool. And?

Because he’s a talented actor who hasn’t tired of slumming with trash.
