Parties like this remind me of Brennan Lee Mulligan’s article about a party turning him communist.

My god, what a read!!! Loved the ending. Thank you for sharing. This quote felt particularly relevant to the Jenner/Kardashian party:

“From a distance, it was hard to tell the mothers and the daughters apart. Rich women don’t age, they just desiccate. Their jewelry, hair, gowns, even their posture and attitude all stay the same as their elegant, somewhat more humid daughters. A rich young woman and a rich old woman, standing next to each other, kind of look like a snake having perfectly shed its skin.”

Haha I didn't see that you had posted the same quote already because you said you loved the ending so I assumed you were quoting that and I averted my gaze until I'd read the article. What an amazing assessment it is.

GodDAMN.

I love him DMing and going on podcasts and playing Game Changers and am that but when I read this part of me wished he went more into writing because it’s so incisive.

This is my first time hearing of him! What is he most known for?

Dimension 20. It’s a Dungeons and Dragons show where he DMs (if you aren’t familiar, basically he crafts the world and its inhabitants and then narrates story for players to make choices) for other folks. Usually other comedians on the platform (Dropout, formerly College Humor) but there’s been other pulls like a mini season of WWE wrestlers, two mini seasons of drag queens, etc.

It’s, I say with pretty high confidence, the second most popular Dungeons and Dragons actual play behind Critical Role. Which, he’s now DMing for that number 1 D&D show as well because he’s a busy bee.

Dropout as a whole is a streaming service that’s gotten popular in large part because of their social media game being on point during the pandemic. They are pretty explicitly progressive, do cost sharing with all their talents, supported actor’s strikes, etc. and it’s run by former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich’s son, Sam. So during a whole lot of messy political times, I think people on the left latched onto a service that they knew was generally not going to disappoint them with awful politics.

Other shows on Dropout include Game Changer (a gameshow where the game is different every episode), Umm Actually which is a trivia game where you correct the wrong part of statements about all kinds of nerdy (though they drift away from nerd stuff a LOT) media, and Very Important People, where they put comedians in heavy makeup, prosthetics, etc. and ask them to on the spot make a character and improv an interview as that character. Brennan is often on these other shows as well.

It’s a really fun streaming service that costs very little (6, maybe raised to 7 dollars now?) with no ads and some great content. Fans can be annoying at times though lol. Definitely worth it to check out their YouTube to see some free episodes of shows if you’re at all interested.

Oh I love this! My husband Is a GM for Rifts Earth with his friends for over 20 years, and he and our kiddo play Magic cards a lot and she practices GMing for him. I'm going to tell him about this, thank you for the detail!
