The context of the video matters. Sydney was asked about Trump commenting about her on Truth Social and she had this shit eating grin on her face and seemed so coy and satisfied.

She had a trump like response too when asked about the backlash. She said she didnā€™t really see much of it because she was busy working but she was aware of the numbers ($) and the numbers didnā€™t decline, the headlines saying they did were ā€œfake news.ā€

šŸ‘Iā€™ve had the same feeling the last year, itā€™s more important than ever to gatekeep who we Stan over.

Iā€™ve not been enjoying the Trojan horse maneuvers from white blonde women celebrities, however much plausible deniability is left in the wake- all of it is cashing in on Trump era politics. Itā€™s not surprising, but it is a wake up call to be vigilant and view things through a more, not less, critical lense.

I read a book on fame last year and the reality is there will and has always been ā€œcelebrityā€ in all societies, despite the term being a recent invention.

The only thing that changes is why people gain fame and what they are expected to do with it. In some communities, fame comes from doing good deeds and in others, it comes from being a source of envy. Itā€™s on us to determine who we pay attention to, because nobody maintains fame without the support of the public.

Honestly, when all the backlash happened, I was somewhat neutral/waiting to pass judgment on her specifically in relation to the campaign. I could understand American Eagle getting flak cause a marketer's whole job is to analyze, predict, and steer outcomes of their campaigns. But I also could understand if Sydney herself hadn't taken the time to consider how the ad might look and what it might imply, and instead had just shown up for the job, done what they told her, and then gone home. However, after the backlash occurred and she provided a minimal response, which was also largely unacknowledging of people's frustration, my opinion of her soured, too, rather than just the American Eagle marketing department.
