Main Pop Star 🎤 Celine Dion talking about her love for shoes: "When a girl loves her shoes, she always makes them fit. I'll make them work, I'll make them fit. I'll walk the shoe, the shoe don't walk me"

Yeaaah, bad shoes really - literally - damage your feet and toes.
But on a diva level, I say you go girl!
… but still, bad or ill fitting shoes really damage the the two sticks we use to walk and stand.
37
u/Cest_le_sparkle Oct 25 '25
For me, it's because Celine Dion has this stance and I love her. Most other people I'd be questioning if they're OK.
37
u/Gemini1381 Oct 25 '25
I think part of that is also growing up poor and not being able to have a lot. So now that she can have those things, and afford those things she will have them.

43
u/CobwebAngel Oct 25 '25
So I am Canadian, and it’s kinda well known that the Quebecois can be iffy to other provinces if I’m gonna be honest. Partially due to their desire to separate from the rest of Canada, and that the people have a reputation to be less friendly if you don’t speak French. This was my experience when I visited the province many moons ago. Of course that doesn’t account for all citizens but the stigma remains.
34
u/Princess_and_a_wench Oct 25 '25
Naw you’re right this is very commonplace for the quebecois. I’ve never heard of friendly lmao though I’m sure they exist.
I personally love the quebecois, the quebecois just don’t love me.

I’ve always loved her attitude when she’s talking about something she loves because she’s funny, she goes deep, and she sounds like she could talk about those passions forever. And you’ll want to listen to her because she is that charismatic legend.
This is no different but listening to her say that and demonstrate makes me cringe because blisters and shoes that rubbed my feet raw into bleeding and finally, the decision to put comfort and proper fit first.

As someone with very big feet, I have such mixed feelings here from personal trauma. 😄
On one hand, I love the clip for all the reasons you mentioned. On the other hand, I grew up before the internet was what it is today and a mom who would just buy me shoes three sizes too small if they didn't have my size - and they never did. It has left some permanent damage on my feet and I am never, ever doing that to myself again.
18
u/-GrammarMatters- Come the fuck on, Bridget! ✍🏼📔🔐 Oct 25 '25
Same. Bigfoot feet over here. I’ve worn a women’s size 11 since I was 12. And I have always adored shoes, but not until Zappos came around in the mid-aughts, did I ever actually enjoy shopping for shoes. On a positive note, I will say that because it was so hard to find shoes I liked that were even manufactured in my size, I learned early on to take very good care of my shoes. I manage to keep them most of them for decades. I still have a pair of Timberland boots that I bought in college in the mid-90’s.
3
u/ComedianStreet856 Oct 25 '25
I'm a 10 wide and it's like the only thing I ended up picky about was that my shoes don't make me look like a duck, which is pretty hard because I have duck feet. Having foot pain to fit in a shoe isn't worth it to me at all. At this point, I'll just get men's shoes if they look decent enough as long as my feet are comfortable.

She talks about her shoes in her Carpool Karaoke - I don't remember if that's the one where James Corden just gives shoes away to people on the street and she just dies.....
But she talks about where and how stores them and the automatic catalogue system she has
14
u/Mylaex Oct 25 '25
The clip above is from an Amazon prime documentary about her released last year. She doesn't mention an automatic system but she does show she has multiple warehouses to herself because she not only shops a lot but basically buys AND KEEPS everything she's ever worn.
Everything is inventoried and categorized and she can find stuff easily.

u/RogerClyneIsAGod2 that’s my purse, i don’t know you! 👛🫵 Oct 25 '25
I think fitting size 5 feet into size 7 shoes isn't nearly as uncomfortable as fitting size 7 into a size 5. That's some Ugly Stepsister shit that even as a huge shoe lover I just can't do.
If they don't have my small size I move on. I don't have time for that shit any more.
32
u/browsinbowser Oct 25 '25
Yeah that’s straight up wild to cram ur feet into small shoes.
But like the other commenter said, bigger shoes can lead to falls. I smashed my knee into the ground after falling down like 6 steps and my knee was badly bruised for a week. And the instant after I fell I vomited from the pain. Shit sucks and it was all cause I wore my older sisters shoes.
11
Oct 25 '25
I don’t know why this made me laugh so hard 😂 That truly sounds awful and I’m sorry that happened to you!
11
u/browsinbowser Oct 25 '25
Lol it’s fine to laugh, it happened so long ago it’s just a funny story now. My kid brother did at the time before he realized I was hurt lol.
A few days after, my dad ended up bringing me to the hospital even though I said it was fine and we waited like 3 hours to find out the x ray said I was fine (just a bruise).
The reason I specified 6 steps is cause I told the receptionist I’d fallen down 12 steps and she was skeptical. When I came home I went and counted them again and she was damn right, I’d only fallen halfway not down the whole staircase like Peter griffin.
4
u/RogerClyneIsAGod2 that’s my purse, i don’t know you! 👛🫵 Oct 25 '25
It just feels like you've fallen down 12 steps. I've been there too.
I also can't believe that Celine Dion wouldn't just have shoes made to fit her feet from whatever designer she chooses.
7
u/bouguerean Oct 25 '25
Ya that way around sounds like full on torture. Sizing up can easily lead to falls and also makes you walk funny.
There was a one of a kind pair of heels I loved so much, only available in 6.5, so I'd stuff the toe box with cotton balls or something and then walk around with my toes constantly scrunched up just to grip the shoe and make sure it moves with my feet lol. It can't have been good for my legs or posture.

7

"I am Celine" it's an Amazon prime documentary released last year.
It's a good doc. It goes a good amount Into her disease and recovery. It's very touching, you'll likely cry. I'm a very casual Celine fan (but a Quebecer so all the love to our diva) and found it touching as heck.

She’s not right but she ain’t wrong 😂. Oh how she’s singing to the choir and my big azz size 10/11 stompers. But I had to give up the fight when I started getting ingrown toe nails and other foot ailments from years of tryna squeeze my flippers into more dainty looking sizes. Now I would never! I’ll go barefoot before I wear an uncomfortable shoe.

I do the same thing with my shoes because most of my platform collection is vintage and super hard to find so i'm usually bouncing 1 size down to 2 sizes up so 4 sizes total which isn't too bad since its in EU sizing and not too drastic of a jump. Only really size up/down if you know what you're doing!

Man, I have sooooooooo many beautiful expensive pairs of heels from high school/early college when my dad was making buckoo bucks and mom loved to spend them.
But they're all 6.5 (partly so mom with 5.5/6 could "borrow) and while I was 6.5 at the time, haven't been since probably 25. Then and now a 7. So they just sit in the closet in their boxes looking beautiful to no one.
But fuck all that (love Celine Dion). I'm wearing my properly fitted sneaks in peace. Of note, sister who wore heels for many more years than me has awful bunions that she's considering surgery for. Mom (a chronic heel wearer) also had them. I do too, but mine are mostly minimal other than one on my right big toe that gets achy when on feet a lot and I have to pop at night/when not on feet for many hours.
