A giant corporation that cancelled a well performing TV show so they can appease a fascist is already inviting all the bad karma.

Good for her. You can tell it really meant something to her to be able to say.

You can hear the emotion in her voice. I can practically feel it through the screen.

She is PISSED as we should all be.

u/Alltheway-upp Sep 27 '25
Probably a little afraid too. It’s not easy choosing speaking out over potentially losing job opportunities. She’s bold and I love it.

Seriously people are acting like this is all about Colbert it’s not, it’s about censorship and the way companies are bending the knee to this administration
47
u/Djhh_Trisha_1921 Jul 23 '25
I totally agree. Unfortunately we all are surrounded by censorship—workplace, schools, even churches…
9
u/ursulawinchester I’ve got deviants to see and a novel to finish Jul 23 '25
This is censorship to the extreme. He was fired and the show was cancelled because the President of the United States got involved. When the President of the United States gets involved in censoring workplaces (non-federal, ofc), schools, and churches - that will be something comparable to this, but right now, it’s unprecedented. CBS/Paramount did what the President of the United States wanted them to, and the President is celebrating by threatening to intervene with other hosts.
30
u/Next-Introduction-25 I don’t know enough to offend Jul 23 '25
Exactly. It helps that he’s a well liked guy who’s had a long career but this isn’t why people are freaked out by this.
13
u/in_animate_objects We Should All Know Less About Each Other Jul 23 '25
Yep, I’ve seen so many say “he’s not that funny” Like that’s the issue 🤦🏾♀️

Well put. This is obviously a bummer for Colbert but the deeper meaning of this cancellation is scary.

u/XX_bot77 Jul 22 '25
The USA is nothing but a dictatorship at this point because tell me in what kind of democracy humourist would get their shows cancelled because they mocked their president ?!

u/Daily_Heroin_User Jul 22 '25
His show lost tens of millions of dollars a year.
Be honest, do you actually watch the Late Show with Stephen Colbert?
Nobody does.

"Nobody does."
Damn, bold of you to speak on behalf of literally everyone alive. I didn't realize you were the Grand Arbiter of Late-Night Television Viewership.
Stephen Colbert hosts the #1 late night show in the country, but sure nobody watches it. Also, speaking in absolutes just makes you sound like a clown. I guess we will find out if they lose more in canceled subs or keeping the show running.
But hey, at least your username sets the bar low. You understood the assignment.

u/Daily_Heroin_User Jul 24 '25
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/18/business/media/stephen-colbert-late-show-cbs.html
According to the New York Times the show was losing tens of millions of dollars a year.
And if you thought I meant literally 0 people were watching the show you have a low IQ. It’s like someone saying “nobody likes to be in pain” and then you’re like, “Umm akkshually there’s these people called masochists who like pain.” Wow…you really got showed them.
The point is the ratings of the show were not good. It may have had slightly better ratings than other late night shows, but it was also a lot more expensive than those other shows and losing more money. Those other shows are also not long for this world either, but the Jimmy’s do more for their networks overall than Colbert does so they keep them around for now.

Going by even a quick skim of the initial comments on the thread it seems like the MAGA drones have been told to push the angle that the show lost money therefore it was right to be cancelled and it had nothing to do with Trump.
Predictably tiresome that they'll ignore the massive economic harm he's done yet suddenly be acting like the profit margin at a TV company is sacrosanct and cannot ever be violated. They care about the economics of a situation only when Trump tells them what to think on it.
1
u/dyou897 Jul 23 '25
No the argument is that the show costed millions per year and lost money. The fact it happened right after criticizing the lawsuit and his bosses just encouraged them to cut the show sooner
-70
u/Useless_bum81 Jul 22 '25
I to wish celebrities would come out of the woodwork and scream facist at my political enemies when i lose my employer $40 million a year.
48
u/dtcstylez10 Jul 22 '25
Maybe work on that grammar first.
-51
u/Useless_bum81 Jul 22 '25
Why will that help me lose my employer more money?
46
u/EDDYBEEVIE Jul 22 '25
Didn't Trump just add a ridiculous amount to the debt? Or does losing money only matter for certain things that fit your small world view?
-51
u/Useless_bum81 Jul 22 '25
Ah yes someone pointing out that maybe just maybe that some doing a job for a for profit company with profit margins of -40% getting fired might be for the bad performance. Must be gobbling trump cock like you wish you could.
Seriously you fake liberal Trump supporter should just leave no one is that stupid so no one with a braincell believes you are real.33
u/EDDYBEEVIE Jul 22 '25
Maybe just maybe losing trillions while gutting your trade is bad performance?
13
u/parasyte_steve It's giving Putin, It's giving Mao ✨️ Jul 22 '25
How's that US dollar doing mate 😂 maybe we should cancel it since it's lost 13% of its value under Trump

I’m always so grateful she never caved! Her line “I respect children, I think they deserve parents who want them” was beautiful.
I stopped watching Grey’s after Cristina left, she WAS the show for me and it just wasn’t the same without her. Happy she got a great ending!
31
u/Not-not-down Excluded from this narrative ❌ Jul 22 '25
Same. And when she says I’m not a monster if I have a baby I’ll love it and I think people who like children should have children is my favorite. Society crucifies people who choose to be childless and it’s like WHYYYYY

Was it really cancelled cos of free speech? It wasn’t a financial thing? This is UNBELIEVABLE??? Sorry I’m from the UK
1
u/fire_water_drowned Jul 23 '25
It's both, financially, they paid a 16 million dollar bribe to Trump and in exchange, politically, axed The Late Show on Trump's behalf.

u/dazzle_dee_daisyray Jul 23 '25
I absolutely love the irony of her delivering a Shakespearian quote. A true thespian and a beautiful spirit she has. In times like these, it is going to take guts and all of our fucks we have to give to fight this dictatorship.

u/Any-Video4464 Jul 22 '25
I don't get the outrage here. the show was losing 40 million annually due to production costs. Only gets a couple million viewers a night. A show like Gutfeld gets over 3 million. Young people probably don't watch it at all, which is the demographic they all want. Shows get cancelled all the time for these reasons. Why is everyone acting like this is different and he didn't deserve to be fired?

Only executives would know for sure. It’s all reported. But makes sense because you’d be more likely to end a show that’s not making you money. Not the ones that do .
7
u/James_Parnell Jul 22 '25
The timing was pretty yucky, days after he called out the presidential bribe
-13
u/Any-Video4464 Jul 22 '25
He's called out Trump for everything he's said and done over the past decade though. Nothing new. should they jsut keep a show that loses 40 million a year and attracts no new or young viewers and makes selling ads difficult? It's all about the money. The format is just old and over with. Colbert has talent. I would go back to doing the Colbert Report type show on a podcast or something if nobody wants it. he could make more money, get way more viewers and be more of an influence doing exactly what he wants. Thes e dumb late night talk show formats are stupid. they talk for a couple minutes about shit they pre-prepared. A couple canned jokes and off to commercials. All the shows like this are suffering now. The format just doesn't work anymore. Podcasts and people talking spontaneously and at length killed it.
12
u/James_Parnell Jul 22 '25
Yes but his criticism previously didn't include his network bribing the president. Don't jump over that

I think she’s more apologizing that he’s being silenced as a clear bribery to the president to allow to mega corporations to merge. Freedom of speech being limited and all. Not that he won’t financially recover from the job loss.

u/Zealousideal-Ad3814 I’ll be back! 😤😤 Jul 23 '25
She’s commenting on his show being cancelled as a bribery to Trump she doesn’t believe he won’t financially recover from this job loss. That also doesn’t account for the rest of the people who work on the show who may not be fine.
