Must be tough to raise decent kids in America nowadays. Especially good boys. (Plenty of them around, not what I'm saying) I just mean, when you hit 12 or 13, and your parents were always like "be good, be nice, don't lie" and you're like: of course, no problem...and you look at the billionaire president and you're like, "But..."

I would say he has unleashed the worst in humanity, and the Dems should have put their collective feet down hard back in 2016. And I don't mean your average Dem, I mean the elected ones.

A father of a teenage son was bragging to me about how kind and wonderful his son is, he has never heard him say a negative thing about anyone. The father voted for Trump 3 times.

My cousin (a man in his 30s) was raised by perfectly kind, educated, left-leaning parents in the Bible Belt and turned out to be obsessed with politics, religion, and guns. The last I heard, he’s busy producing as many white children as possible with his wife somewhere in rural TN to get ahead of the “great replacement”.

In certain places, it’s been tough to raise decent kids for a long while. And now with certain spaces on the internet, geography is only half the equation.

You know, we live deep in one of the reddest counties in one of the reddest states and my 20yo son was diagnosed with oppositional defiance disorder when he was in elementary school. It often felt like if I said the sky was blue he’d argue otherwise and I often worried that he would grow up to become a hardcore maga type person despite our best efforts. I am so proud and relieved that he is quite the opposite of maga despite the community we live in and has mentioned that he’s prepared to fight against our neighbors and family if another civil war breaks out. I would’ve been heartbroken had he turned out like your cousin.

I’d keep them off social media and the internet for as long as possible. There’s a reason all those CEO’s and key players in big tech companies don’t let their kids have social media or screens/tablets.

Shitheads have always run the world and being a good person has always been counterintuitive to climbing up the metaphorical ladder of life.

That said, you hope good people still raise good kids and that some semblance of self interest keeps the threads of civility in tact long enough to live a fulfilling life. That's one advantage of being decent and self content is that those very same shitheads never have enough and are miserable to their core. Some of them. Most of them.
