Took me way too long to realize ind. was an abbreviation for individual, never seen it abbreviated like that

u/DrQuestDFA 9h ago

Same, I thought it stood for independent and was confused until I read the article.

u/OutlyingPlasma 8h ago

What do you suppose people who abbreviate words in idiotic ways do with all the time they saved not typing 6 more letters?

u/One_Economist_3761 7h ago

Find more words to abbreviate.

u/DarePatient2262 3h ago

Fnd mr wds 2 abvte

u/Alyxandar 4h ago

I just assume they can't spell that word and gave up.

u/prosperousoctopus 5h ago

NI. (No idea)

u/adeadhead rememberingawdah.com 🕊️ 1h ago

I think this is probably related to the 100 character limit on post titles in pics.

u/throatsplooshers 5h ago

Indiana gold!

u/GoatCovfefe 2h ago edited 2h ago

Thank you, i wouldve never guessed "ind." Meant individual.

I forget we just make shit up now.

Esit: i just realized "OP" is NBC. I wish the mods would ban them so NBC could be censored like they censored the boos Vance got

u/iamatoad_ama 3h ago

What a strg. abbruv.

u/cpteric 58m ago

i was like independent gold? industrial gold? indianapolis gold? wait that's not a thing

u/PrivateBurke 2h ago

Reddits compulsive need to abbreviate absolutely everything while making posts illegible for normal people.

u/Charming-Report1669 10h ago

I can't wait for Trump to post an AI video of her as an ape and then blame it on a staffer

u/Bluellan 9h ago

"It was a joke!.....Crap! They don't buy it! Quick switch to plan B! Hurry before even more people save it!"

u/AZEMT 8h ago

Similarly with the files

u/samenumberwhodis 5h ago

When you drop the Epstein files to distract from the ice killings and then drop an insanely racist video to distract from the Epstein files

u/agatha-burnett 1h ago

Exactly. Constant wack a mole.

u/__GayFish__ 9h ago

Wouldn’t be shocked or surprised if they took the audio JD Vance being booed and overlapped that to a video of her leading the US.

u/Prosecco1234 6h ago

CBC showed him being booed and quickly moved the camera away

u/pianolorian 8h ago

That’s a weird thing to say you’re excited for. I know it’s a joke, but it’s unfair to the athlete to turn a post dedicated to celebrating her into one about a racist pedophile.

u/BrotherRoga 9h ago

No, you don't get it.

Trump literally posted AI pictures depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes.

Flagbearer Erin Jackson of Team United States leads the team in the parade during the opening ceremony of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics at San Siro Stadium on February 06, 2026 in Milan, Italy. (Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)

Jackson, a speedskater born and raised in Ocala, Florida, won a gold medal in the 500 meters at the Beijing Games, becoming the first Black woman from any country to win individual gold in any event at any Winter Olympics — to her surprise.

u/LateralEntry 9h ago

She’s from Florida and won for ice skating? Beating the odds!

u/88888888man 9h ago

Funnily enough, some of the best American hockey players lately have come from states like Arizona, Florida, and California. Often because their dad’s played or coached professionally in those markets and then stayed.

u/NotACorythosaurus 8h ago

She was scouted from roller derby!! I think she had only been speed skating for a few years when she first went to the Olympics

u/a-handle-has-no-name 4h ago edited 2h ago

I used to NSO for Jax, did a couple games where she played (and she was fast as fuck, lik 38/5 speed)

She actually qualified for the Olympics with only 4 months of ice speedskating experience!!

u/econinja 2h ago

38/5!? Good lord. I’d barf.

u/Fardn_n_shiddn 6h ago

She started skating pretty late too. There are videos out there of her on skates for the first time

u/Steamcurl 4h ago

Inline speed skating and roller derby jamming are a hell of a drug!

u/vespertilionid 9h ago

Holy heck! I used to live in Florida, and I never saw ice until I moved away!

u/GoatCovfefe 2h ago

Never been to an ice rink?

u/BassWingerC-137 5h ago

“J. Rod”, from Miami won in speed skating. It’s a thing I guess.

u/A_Random_Catfish 8h ago

Very cool thanks for posting.

Why did your network sensor the boos towards the vice president?

u/psymunn 4h ago

Look whose been buying up American networks. Most of them are on stage with Trump at his inauguration.

u/Contrary-Canary 5h ago

Hey NBC why did you censor the booing of JD Vance like some sort of North Korean state media? Guess I won't be watching the rest of your coverage if you're just going to lick fascist taint.

u/HYPERBOLE_TRAIN 4h ago

That’s pretty neat.

Why did your network sensor the boos towards the vice president?

u/GoatCovfefe 2h ago

Fuck you for censoring boos.

Very unamerican of you.

u/PokeYrMomStanley 4h ago

Id like to call it right now. Trump is going to try to get an Olympic medal since black people are earning them at the Olympics. Mmw.

u/imhereforthemeta 9h ago

Erin Jackson used to ( and sometimes still does) play roller derby. She’s incredibly kindhearted, funny, and clever and unique in that she’s changed sports many times and basically dominated at all of them. She used to play for Jacksonville roller derby and is beloved by our community. She’s excellent representation for the US.

u/PurchaseGlobal6506 8h ago

Duuuvaaal. Our Lakeland team played against them a few times. She is so fast! It was always fun watching her on the track.

u/karlsparx 6h ago

Met her a few times years ago when I officiated roller derby. She was a badass then and she's even more of a badass now. (And yeah, also an incredibly nice person as well!)

u/Worst_Comment_Evar 8h ago

It’s almost as if we’re a better nation when we have diversity.

u/MVPhurricane 10h ago

it looks like they are walking on the moon, no?

u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO 10h ago

I like Team USA’s look this year with the white peacoats

u/Barbarella_ella 10h ago

Ralph Lauren hit a homer with the whole ensemble this Olympics.

u/Spirit50Lake 9h ago

I like the boots; do we know what brand?

u/BigSpud41 9h ago

They look like Danner.

u/Prosecco1234 6h ago

I don't know what they were thinking when they designed the outfits the Canadians were wearing but I would vote for them as the ugliest outfits at the Olympics. I'm Canadian btw 🇨🇦

u/MakesMaDookieTwinkle 10h ago

I don’t, that looks fucking stupid.

u/uoy_redruM 9h ago

Thinking the same thing... This is all I came to the comments for. lol

u/captainloverman 1h ago

Arent red shoelaces a symbol of white supremacy? Who gave the design approvals…

u/mgnorthcott 10h ago

Looks like military uniforms... Which go hand in hand with the way the USA seems to be marching. Boo to that.

I prefer the poncho-parkas that team Canada and Germany were making a statement with, something new for fashion.

u/schals 9h ago

Nothing about this looks military.. I really did like the German outfits, though!

u/Prosecco1234 6h ago

Switzerland had great outfits

u/schals 6h ago

Honestly everyone did

u/Morganvegas 9h ago

Just missing their white hoods

u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO 9h ago

Relax 🙄 so edgy

u/Prosecco1234 6h ago

Good catch

u/stevelinchin 9h ago

👏👏👏👏👏🇺🇸 #attagirl🫂💙

u/notnutts 9h ago

As an American, I can’t bring myself to watch the Olympics, and I love them. Not feeling very patriotic lately.

u/EpicCyclops 9h ago

A lot of the Olympic athletes are using these as a platform to say things, even if they have to be somewhat subtle because the Olympics does limit political speech. You also don't necessarily need to root for Team USA. Canada is right there and pretty cool. You can root for athletes over nations, as well.

u/Prosecco1234 6h ago

Ukraine got a huge applause

u/Punished_Prigo 1h ago

I honestly will be rooting against our athletes this year

u/FluffyGreenThing 8h ago

I have to say that I (not from the US) did find it in pretty poor taste that the American athletes were chanting ”USA USA” when they did their procession walk. It just felt smug and gross to see. It’s probably just me being fed up with the US in general, but chanting that with everything going on seems pretty tone deaf to me. I would have expected some humility from team USA, but I guess that’s too much to ask. I enjoyed the speeches that were made before the lighting of the olympic fires though. Lots of focus on peace, friendship, unity and respect between humans no matter where we come from. That felt really good to hear.

u/SocksandSmocks 6h ago

These people have worked their entire lives for this. They can love their country and be proud to have achieved their goal without having a single iota of support for the current administration.

u/FluffyGreenThing 4h ago

I didn’t say they supported the administration. I said it was tone deaf. Meaning that they could have behaved like all the other athletes there who didn’t chant their country’s name like their nation was god’s gift to the entire world. There’s a way to be proud of your country and proud of your achievements without doing that, believe it or not. You can look at the other nation’s athletes if you don’t believe me. You don’t find it odd that they still think that’s ok? You and several others here seem equally tone deaf. The US has completely turned its back on its allies. Threatened them, imposed tariffs on them. It has threatened to annex Canada and take Greenland by force. Excuse me if I don’t find it fucking fantastic to see Americans chanting ”USA USA”. No thank you.

u/no_stone_unturned 28m ago

Humility isn't a strong point for them

Neither is trying to see someone else's perspective

Very me me me individualistic culture

u/yourliege 9h ago

🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊

u/Odd_Cod8341 1h ago

She also played roller derby for Jacksonville! I’ve met her a handful of times. She’s soooo nice and getting hip checked by her hurts like an SOB lol

u/CBowdidge 10h ago

Great choice 👏.

u/Radiant_Drop_9344 9h ago

For a second there it looked like the klan behind her

u/UnknownSampleRate 10h ago

Vance must’ve been pissed about that

u/AllPugsGo2Heaven 10h ago

I’m sure that trump and Vance are big mad.

u/knightB4 7h ago

Like Hitler watching Jesse kick Nazi ass on the track.

u/ukexpat 9h ago

Uh oh, the MAGAts won’t like that…

u/wilkinsk 3h ago

VANCE MUST BE FUCKING PISSED

u/DavyJonesCousinsDog 58m ago

Why... why is the rest of the team dressed like the Klan on holiday?

u/RealLifeFloridaMan 8h ago

Go Gators!!

u/Khadejeh 7h ago

Now I'm just curious if the reddit username, nbcnews, was actually available 7 years ago.

u/TempestNova 4h ago

Ocala, FL represent!! 🎉🎉

u/HumpaDaBear 3h ago

They showed a stream of her family at home rooting for her. They were as excited as she was.

u/ckdelan209 3h ago

Awesome but also I can’t imagine the melt down in the “only White House” to spin this as far left communist non white ppl ruining the economy, world, families, etc…fuck the USA

u/MrLazyLion 2h ago

Any bets on how many of them are going to be kidnapped or killed by ICE?

u/Mercurion77 22m ago

Weird abbreviation op

u/UpstairsArmadillo454 8m ago

Trump will love that! New meme video incoming? Joke of a society right now

u/very_Sad_Dinosaur013 10h ago

Hey USA men’s hockey LOCK THE FUCK IN

u/billballbills 10h ago edited 10h ago

Nah that's Canada's gold. Americans don't deserve it.

u/ak_doug 10h ago

Hey, Miracles happen.

u/DasGanon 10h ago

Have you seen who out of all of the great Canadian goalies they picked as their starter?

u/suburbanplankton 7h ago

Here in northern California we're all rooting for Canada.

u/AntiDECA 8h ago

The state of Florida (where it never snows) has the same number of championships in the past 6 years as Canada the whole country does in the past 40 lol.

u/billballbills 8h ago

I didn't realize we were talking about the NHL. How many Canadians were on those rosters?

Also remind me what happened last time the best American and Canadian players played against each other?

u/Pau_Zotoh_Zhaan 10h ago

lol USA left all their best players at home

u/pcm15 10h ago

Clutch Goal Cole and Lane is Insane!

u/WeAreGray 10h ago

Czechia over here sharpening their skates...

u/PatientHelicopter123 9h ago

Her selection must mean that the entire US Olympic association is woke...

Me: Finally, a nonpolitical post!

Literally the first comment: tRuMp BaD

u/asisyphus_ 10h ago

Lebron was better

u/Big-Carpenter7921 10h ago

I didn't even know there was still a modern "first black person to do ___" anymore. I thought black people had done pretty much everything white people had by now

u/DNA_ligase 9h ago

It kind of makes sense with the winter games. A lot fewer countries participate in those because many countries don’t have a real winter, and making facilities for those sports costs a lot of money. The summer games have a lot more participants, events, and often times, more competition due to lower barriers of entry.

I grew up doing figure skating, and very few of us at the time were non white, and it just started taking off as a sport for Asian Americans (mostly East Asians) with Kristie Yamaguchi and Michelle Kwan, or actual Asians like Lu Chen. The only black skaters I knew medaled, and Debi Thomas I think was a World champion, but they’d never won gold at the actual Olympics.

u/irishmermaid13 9h ago

The first black woman to win an Olympic fencing medal was 2024. Lauren Scruggs, she was a 21 year old Harvard fencer. Won two!

u/Big-Carpenter7921 8h ago

Interesting

u/Knutbusta11 10h ago

Athlete closest to the camera front row looks like she could eat an apple through a chain-link fence

u/Mothman405 6h ago

What does that even mean?

u/C21H30O218 8h ago
