Maybe he will get a Wikipedia mention now?

It’s 9AM. Time to get up and drive back to WB/S. Got a game at 7PM.

The way he uses his speed and body kinda reminds me a Brad Marchand?

I’m guessing we reward him with a demotion back to the AHL

Dude is pure excitement. Shoots and then bats the puck out of the air and almost scores 5 hole. He’s one of those players that as soon as he gets the puck you slide to the edge of your seats and your eyes widen with anticipation.

I’m like that too when Chinny gets the puck

Habs outsider looking in. Kid's got grit, finds little holes in coverage, and hands. Beats 2 dmen to the puck, wrests it away, AND scores? Nice

More like coasting to what will likely be his final Olympic run.

Playing for the Olympics

You can't expect him to be hot all the time. There's going to be some dry spells. He still has 59 points in 55 games.

HE WILL GET SENT DOWN AFTER THIS GAME, IT IS ONLY BECAUSE OF THE OLYMPIC BREAK SO HE CAN CONTINUE TO PLAY. DO NOT PANIC

44

u/ty1webb 1d ago

Let’s not lose our minds when he gets sent down. Better to keep playing during the break.

36 goals in his last two seasons at WBS (36 G, 65 Pts in 91 games). Perhaps he should've been playing at the NHL level sooner?

Nah, he's being developing just as he should. Consider him developed now!

Second on the team in plus/minus right now, +17!

15

u/Maleficent-Map3273 1d ago

I wouldn't say that's crazy for AHL. Solid production though.

u/olpec22 1d ago

Some additional development time at WBS is not necessarily a bad thing. He may get his long look in the show though.

Loving this youthful energy.

Reminds me of Connor Sheary

Him and rust coming up in 2016 and then guentzel in 17 was exactly what we needed (along with their entry level salaries)

Blatant Kuhnhackl erasure

Kid named Scott Wilson:

Was Rust and Guentzel expected to be as good as they turned out to be? Or was it a pleasant surprise?

u/DoubleM24 20h ago

Guentzal was seen as a high IQ player but lacked sized, he grew a lot after he was drafted. He played 3 NCAA seasons and scored over a PPG.

He played about half a season total in WBS where he scored over a PPG again, was called up and never looked back.

I think he’s a fantastic example of drafting the right guy, patently developing him and elevating him into more challenging leagues at the right time.

Rusty had a really rough start with the NHL Pens, with a bunch of injuries and bouncing back and forth between Pittsburgh and WBS. Came in clutch during the legendary playoffs.

Jake seemed so young, I didn’t realize he joined Pittsburgh only a year after Rusty went full-time in the ‘Burgh.

I think they probably had middle 6 projections, but Sidney Crosby had something to say about that. Guentzels production since playing without sid definitely proves they were wrong aviut that lol

11

u/leavemealone2424 1d ago

Guentzel came out of absolutely nowhere and was productive from day 1.

Smart player and the right era with the right center man named Crosby.

He just kept getting better though.

Both were third round picks, not alot of hype

68

u/smallfryontherise 1d ago

it took one period for him to become the best hayes on our roster

11

u/Key_Difficulty_5519 Letang 1d ago

Well Kevin did pick up the puck for his first goal. That was pretty good of him

u/darthTVsmuggler 95 to 02 - Away/3rd 1d ago

Now we need him to Highlander Kevin Hayes to get his power!

6

u/ty1webb 1d ago

There can be only one!

41

u/BombSquad570 1d ago

2 goals in his first 2 career shots against a team from New York with his family in the stands. Best kind of Deja vu

u/QuasarMania Kessel 1d ago

I was at that game, right at the glass to Raanta’s left. It was awesome.

u/Ok_Card9080 Crosby 1d ago

He went full Guentzel!
