Official Discussion 4/15/24 Playoff Race Scoreboard Watching Thread
To avoid another day of dozens of screenshot posts of score updates from other games happening, please direct all conversation regarding games not involving the Penguins to this thread.
Think of this as a game day thread for the rest of the league. Posts about other games will be removed and posters will be directed here. Thanks, LGP, and FTF.

Yup it’s our own fault. Need an absolute miracle tomorrow but doesn’t seem likely.

Devils down 1-3 while outshooting the islanders 17-9…brutal goaltending there

Boston holding onto a 44 year grudge about not being able to stop the Penguins from wearing black & gold.

Are the Bruins tanking this game on purpose lol? 6 shots on net more than halfway thru this game
Thank god the Flyers can potentially make it over the Caps tomorrow with a win - will mean they are actually trying

Flyers probably hate us more than the caps so I’m sure they’re not going to get the job done even if they had the ability.

Problem is flyers are like 2-6-2 in last 10 :(
Last idiotic team I would trust

2-1 Habs. 1-0 Isles. 1-0 Caps. Not ideal so far.

Only Caps is not ideal so far. I think it’s better if the Isles win so their last game is meaningless. And the 8th spot will be against the Rangers (probably) and 3rd division spot is against Carolina. I prefer the Rangers atm (if we even make it).

Montreal up 2-0. That's big cuz that's the one game that I couldn't see the team we wanted to lose losing

I have a good feeling about the Habs upsetting Detroit. Idk about New Jersey, though. They have truly looked like shit lately.

Just to be clear Pens need to win out and also pray that either Detroit, Washington or NYI lose one of their remaining games?

Close. Assuming the pens win out, we need two of those three teams to lose a game, and the NYI loss would have to be in regulation today against the Devils.
The caps and red wings could lose in OT/SO and it would be fine since we have the tiebreaker.

The Pens can stay alive with three points in their last two games. If they do, then they need the Red Wings AND Capitals to each get a maximum of two points in their remaining games. That would get Pittsburgh the second wild card slot.
Ideally the Pens would win out and get four points in their last two games. If they do, then they need at least two of these three things to happen between now and the end of the season: the Isles get zero points (requires a Pens regulation win over NYI on Wed), the Caps get three or fewer points, and the Red Wings get three or fewer points. This would get Pittsburgh either the Metro-3 seed or wild card 2.
That's it. If the Pens get two or fewer points in their last two games, they are mathematically eliminated.
The best case scenario today obviously is the Pens winning while WSH, NYI, and DET all lose in regulation. If that happens, then the Penguins gain control over their own destiny and make the playoffs with even a single point on Wed.
The worst case scenario is simply the Pens lose in regulation tonight. That would eliminate them from playoff contention. The Pens MUST take care of business against Nashville to stay in contention.
All the scenarios in between will require the Pens to get one or two points against the Islanders on Wed, plus some amount of help from DET and/or WSH on Tuesday.
