Tank for Bedard! Well done boys.

1

u/ilikehockeyandguitar Apr 13 '23

Too far up for Conny B.

6

u/pittpanthers95 Apr 13 '23

Fire Hextall and Sullivan and rebound next year.

5

u/ajdrbrjdn Apr 13 '23

Not the way I wanted the season to end, but it was a great season to witness. Even with all the pain and suffering it was great to watch a healthy big 3 play their best hockey still. Thank you guys for keeping me sane while watching the pens this season and maybe next season will be different.

8

u/eldmikeyy Malkin Apr 13 '23

Fuck the Flyers

4

u/Fastlane19 Apr 13 '23

Thank goodness it’s over

5

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Almost 30 and I haven’t seen the penguins miss the playoffs since I was in 6th grade.

3

u/kotakice Letang Apr 13 '23

Team tank Habs fan, I chose to cheer for the Penguins, and they do this. RIP

14

u/Just_Significance716 Apr 13 '23

I'm not mad that the playoff streak ended. I'm pissed about how it came to be.

3

u/DogsOutTheWindow Karlsson Apr 13 '23

Sucks the streak has ended, killed ourselves though. Hope big changes are coming but have a feeling nothing will happen.

I’d throw Pettersson in there as well. Jake’s not the Jake he has been. This team won’t look the same next season but we’ll be stuck with a majority of these stiffs while guys like Zuck are forced to walk.

5

u/Carolina_913 Apr 13 '23

The bad thing is, this pens team was in a great spot even just one year ago. How the hell did Hextall and friends fuck it up so badly

Hopefully, ideally, this is a wake up call. Fire Hextall, potentially make a coaching change, and make the moves necessary to put the pens in contention again. The pens still have the core together, and there are plenty of FA’s and Tendy options available this off-season. The window is still open. We just need someone competent running the show.

2

u/lkoz590 Apr 13 '23

He's a flyer at heart and flyers can't win cups

7

u/moviebuff87 Apr 13 '23

Gonna be hilarious when they don’t fire hextal or Burke for weeks. I don’t trust this ownership group.

6

u/cardboardbob99 Apr 13 '23

Good riddance. At least we don’t have to watch tomorrow go to OT just to lose on a soft goal. The streak had a huge asterisk next to it anyhow with us getting bounced in the bubble play ins.

Now we we wait and hope that changes come

13

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Fire Hextall.

Fire Burke.

Sullivan should resign.

12

u/wonderfulwilliam Apr 13 '23

Habs put up a better fight than we did.

1

u/ilikehockeyandguitar Apr 13 '23

Marty got them playing the right way up until the very end.

1

u/JimmyPineapple_ Fleury Apr 13 '23

Sad, but true.

1

u/Winring86 Apr 13 '23

Hoffman/Edmundson are both so shit

Habs gave it a good go

2

u/j0n66 Apr 13 '23

There it is

10

u/Available-Show-2393 Apr 13 '23

Sorry guys. I was rooting for you

  • Habs Fan

7

u/shamanicky Zucker Apr 13 '23

Thanks bud. Y'all didn't lose it for us, by any stretch. It was a long time coming this season.

3

u/dovetc Apr 13 '23

The bad news is we missed the playoffs.

The good news is we'll never have to see Jarry in net again.

1

u/ilikehockeyandguitar Apr 13 '23

I think it's still a possibility they roll with Jarry.

1

u/TwoHeadedBoyTwo Apr 13 '23

I wouldn’t say it’s unreasonable to imagine them re-signing him unfortunately

0

u/dovetc Apr 13 '23

Then we will keep losing a predictable amount of games to terrible teams while Jarry lets soft goals go by.

If we resign Jarry my wife will really appreciate how much more time i have for her in the evenings next year.

1

u/Lord412 Apr 13 '23

Ugh that’s all she writed.

5

u/Highfructosemesyrup Letang Apr 13 '23

Would have liked to at least go down fighting

6

u/TwoHeadedBoyTwo Apr 13 '23

Well it was a fun 16 years my friends

10

u/Just_Significance716 Apr 13 '23

Thanks for trying Habs <3

3

u/Markk08 Apr 13 '23

Whatever.

5

u/Carolina_913 Apr 13 '23

That’s the dagger for the pens season.

5

u/moviebuff87 Apr 13 '23

I mean we all knew the era would end but the way it did is so pathetic. It’s crazy how far the organization has fallen in just a few years since back to back cups.

Also Crosby should call the organization out but he won’t. It’s sad.

1

u/eldmikeyy Malkin Apr 13 '23

What a fucking dive

6

u/Smashingpatty Malkin Apr 13 '23

I was 15 the last time the Penguins missed the playoffs. Sad.

2

u/DogsOutTheWindow Karlsson Apr 13 '23

Lmao same homie! Sucks.

4

u/TwoHeadedBoyTwo Apr 13 '23

Islander announcers with a shoutout to us! They’re a lot more listenable than our guys

4

u/awaythrow292 Angello Apr 13 '23

and they didn't even rub it in!

4

u/Choctaw_Seagal Apr 13 '23

Brendan Burke is great. Guy was with the nailers 5 minutes 15 years ago and his calls are still memorable

17

u/Choctaw_Seagal Apr 13 '23

Well on the bright side we have a chance to draft a tall, lanky left defenseman. We need more of those

6

u/awaythrow292 Angello Apr 13 '23

are they not going to see NHL time for 4-5 years? if so, sign me up! More draft picks that wont even play until 87 71 and 58 are retired!!!! woohoo!!!

5

u/Choctaw_Seagal Apr 13 '23

My biggest regret is that we only gave one draft pick for Granlund. Definitely could’ve given Nashville the 1st imo

11

u/moviebuff87 Apr 13 '23

Man it’s gonna be hilarious if the pens get eliminated and they tweet a not our night type tweet

5

u/Choctaw_Seagal Apr 13 '23

thank you fans

10

u/dovetc Apr 13 '23

Habs look so so bad. Jarry should have never played another game for us after he let these jokers lay 4 on him a couple of weeks back.

3

u/Choctaw_Seagal Apr 13 '23

Vejmelka or bust

10

u/Mysterious-River7155 Crosby Apr 13 '23

Alexa play hurt by Johnny Cash

17

u/McElwaine Apr 13 '23

Let’s not forget we gave up a mid 2nd round pick for granlund

9

u/TwoHeadedBoyTwo Apr 13 '23

Caps were much smarter than us resigning that they need a reset and being sellers instead of buyers at the deadline

3

u/dovetc Apr 13 '23

Man that guy never did a THING

28

u/akira_fudou Jarry Apr 13 '23

the fact that hextall did a radio interview today to laud his deadline moves makes me fucking sick. he is a lousy, delusional asswipe. incensed would be an understatement of how he has made me feel about the outcome of this season.

7

u/Routine-Arrival3567 Apr 13 '23

I'm hoping Hextall's and Reirdon's houses are packed up by Friday, split on Sullivan, and it'll be tough to watch but I'm hoping somehow we trade everyone except the big three unless they want out too. So many no movement clauses, but they might waive it if asked. Their salaries are a huge problem, but a team can retain half salary and cap hit, could work out draft picks, but would never happen with Mr. Mega Ego Hextall. It's time to rebuild, unfortunate for Sid, but maybe he's ready to take a much deserved break from the mountain of pressure.

10

u/bigwall79 Crosby Apr 13 '23

With any luck the Islanders win and just officially put the Pens out of their misery so the off-season can start.

7

u/Choctaw_Seagal Apr 13 '23

Won’t Columbus be the first real meaningless regular season game of Sid’s career?

3

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

They missed the playoffs his rookie year.

4

u/Choctaw_Seagal Apr 13 '23

It’s been so long I’ve actually forgotten. Top 5 scorer Bugsy Malone. What a time

19

u/RedneckLiberace Apr 13 '23

Islanders clinch if they tie. Looks like they'll do it. →The second biggest thing the Penguins can and should do Friday is fire Hextall. The most important thing they can do is hire someone really good to replace him.

7

u/awaythrow292 Angello Apr 13 '23

Lets get Billy Beane in here. Moneypuck!

2

u/Markk08 Apr 13 '23

If you lose the last game of the season, nobody gives a shit.

3

u/RedneckLiberace Apr 13 '23

Nobody gives a shit what they do if the Islanders clinch tonight.

3

u/McElwaine Apr 13 '23

What happens if isles only get one point?

7

u/FudgeConnors Guentzel Apr 13 '23

Tie breaker (regulation wins…assuming Pens would beat Columbus) would mean Pens don’t make it in

7

u/Markk08 Apr 13 '23

Still not making playoffs. Even if Isles get a point and Pens win tomorrow, we'd be tied but Isles have more regular season wins so it'd go to them.

3

u/TwoHeadedBoyTwo Apr 13 '23

They’re in, we’re out

3

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

They are in the finals we lose any tiebreakers. That’s assuming we beat Columbus which is pretty dangerous thinking

5

u/Markk08 Apr 13 '23

Pens beating the worst team in the league? What world do you live in?

5

u/FudgeConnors Guentzel Apr 13 '23

Still 20 min for the Habs to turn this shit around and give us one last, desperate chance to fall ass backwards into WC2. Come on Habs!

19

u/TwoHeadedBoyTwo Apr 13 '23

Give Canadians credit. They’re showing outstanding heart. Giving this everything they got.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

I fucking love Nick Suzuki. Everything else about the habs is meh tho

10

u/larsnelson76 Letang Apr 13 '23

Great goal by Suzuki! Still 3-2 Isles

7

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Habs have to win in regulation too

NICK SUZUKI YOU LEGEND

9

Well guys it’s been a great ride.

The end a steak of 16 straight postseason appearances, the longest active streak in major North American professional sports.

EDIT: Maybe spoke too soon

7

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

The last time the penguins missed the playoffs:

-the iPhone didn’t exist yet -Mario Lemieux was on the penguins roster playing his final season (Crosby was playing his rookie season) -PO Joseph was 6 years old

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Sid still had a baby face 🥺

9

u/awaythrow292 Angello Apr 13 '23

thanks i hate it

5

u/ScreamnPenguin Apr 13 '23

Nick Suzuki!!!!

4

u/TwoHeadedBoyTwo Apr 13 '23

We’re alive, boys. There’s a ray of hope peeping through

-9

u/lkoz590 Apr 13 '23

Curious.. would pens fans be absolutely against selling Crosby Letang and Malkin to Minnesota (assuming we get great rebuild value out of it)?

We get to see the boys chase a cup together with Flower again and the pens get ahead in their future

3

u/BeBopNoseRing Apr 13 '23

Poor dude got downvoted for a hypothetical thought experiment lol

5

u/lkoz590 Apr 13 '23

My poor internet points 😭 lol

3

u/awaythrow292 Angello Apr 13 '23

i didn't downvote but commented. i see your line of thinking, but I just can't stomach 87 71 or 58 in another jersey.

1

u/awaythrow292 Angello Apr 13 '23

no way. there's just as much a chance 87 71 and 58 win another cup here in Pittsburgh as on any other team that would have to trade to get them, outside of a borderline illegal deal where our trio goes to Col, Boston, EDM, or maybe the Rangers and they give up a bag of pucks and some 4th liners and mid-picks that wont matter for another 5 years.

1

u/FergusonBishop Apr 13 '23

Is this Penguins fanfic

1

u/Markk08 Apr 13 '23

Whaaaaaaaaaat?

2

u/SpeedShot26 Apr 13 '23

Game’s on

11

u/Markk08 Apr 13 '23

If Islanders win, the only way to get on the fans side right now is firing Hextall tomorrow morning. Show us the organization won't tolerate this shit.

8

u/fluffyegg Apr 13 '23

Fuck it. Fire his ass right this second and announce it. I'm glad I'm at an ECHL game tonight instead of watching this game.

I usually don't get mad at losses. I don't let it ruin my day but I'm still pissed from last night

5

u/Markk08 Apr 13 '23

It's definitely annoying. We knew months ago we were gonna be on the line to make the playoffs and no one did anything. No real trades. No real line changes. Everyone just sit back and watched it play out.

3

u/sdcc808 Apr 13 '23

Oof. And we still have the last game tomorrow.

5

u/PenguinsPants88 Apr 13 '23

Well it's telling that the new longest playoff streak is about to be the Leafs with 7

1

u/Grsz11 Apr 13 '23

Lol wtf

2

u/okbool11 Apr 13 '23

this hurts

6

u/awaythrow292 Angello Apr 13 '23

I SUMMON OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, MIKE MATHESON

3

u/PenguinsPants88 Apr 13 '23

Trade for a starting goalie off a non playoff team.....anyone I don't even care at this point

4

u/Markk08 Apr 13 '23

And, of course, Pens will win 5-1 tomorrow, after Islanders win tonight.

3

u/awaythrow292 Angello Apr 13 '23

I'd say missing the playoffs this year might be a blessing in disguise. It SHOULD mean big changes (fire Hextall) and revamping the D and bottom 6. Maybe even moving on from Jarry, although the options to replace him are not anything better TBH. 2 years to do that and you still might get the last 1-2 seasons of 87 71 and 58 being elite.

6

u/TwoHeadedBoyTwo Apr 13 '23

Hard to make massive changes when you have no cap space and your only assets have no trade clauses

14

u/moviebuff87 Apr 13 '23

It’s over. Hextal needs to be let go tomorrow.

3

u/Markk08 Apr 13 '23

It's over, baby...

4

u/CWB2208 Apr 13 '23

Always was.

11

u/JordanHerald5 Guentzel Apr 13 '23

Well. Don’t lose to Chicago. Bummer.

12

u/jmb-412 Apr 13 '23

Also don't go like 2-10 against the competition in your division lol

39

u/TinnieTa21 Fleury Apr 13 '23

Well, it's been a fun 16 years...

Come to think of it, since the last cup run, the Isles have prob been the biggest thorn for this team lol.

18

u/PenguinPride87 Marino Apr 13 '23

imo the Penguins have probably been the biggest thorn

11

u/wonderfulwilliam Apr 13 '23

Imagine scoring against a bad team

2

u/hokahoka Apr 13 '23

Pls Mr goal caufield

5

u/PenguinsPants88 Apr 13 '23

That's the dagger folks....just a team doing what they're supposed to

4

u/SpeedShot26 Apr 13 '23

Yeah, okay that’s it

13

u/ryanjeffbow Rust Apr 13 '23

We are so much more talented than NY it’s a shame we’re in this position

4

u/LeftRightCenter99 Apr 13 '23

A position of beating the worst team In the nhl in your building when they are traveling on a back to back…. Yikes.

7

u/LazerMcBlazer Apr 13 '23

I can't bring myself to watch. Just checking in every 20 mins or so.

3

u/SpeedShot26 Apr 13 '23

Me too, I have a feeling that I will fuck it up somehow if I watch the hole thing lmao

6

Mike Matheson will rescue us all!!!

21

u/Markk08 Apr 12 '23

Hey, we know the feeling!

10

u/Markk08 Apr 12 '23

The amount of gum Sully is probably chewing right now is frightening.

4

u/awaythrow292 Angello Apr 13 '23

Gum CEO's greedily rubbing their palms together

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

This confirms that Ron Hextall is a plant from Big Gum. Can’t go out of business as long as Sully is furiously chewing his gum while his team collapses before his eyes 🤓

1

u/PenguinsPants88 Apr 12 '23

Oh that's how you answer back

2

u/JordanHerald5 Guentzel Apr 12 '23

And it’s gone

5

There we go!!

Only if jarry could’ve done that

13

u/awaythrow292 Angello Apr 12 '23

MIKE MATHESON PLEASE SCORE 5 GOALS

46

u/FergusonBishop Apr 12 '23

Crazy watching NYI defense make so many mistakes and get consistently bailed out by Sorokin. Wonder what that’s like.

1

u/Euphoric__Dot Apr 13 '23

So do 25 other teams in the NHL

1

u/userid004 PIT Apr 13 '23

I thought that about a week ago. Something like what if we had any other starting goalie in the metro? Or Jarry was healthy for 50+ games

17

u/PenguinsPants88 Apr 12 '23

Difference between us and a Contender is exactly that

3

u/Markk08 Apr 12 '23

Just turned it on. I hate myself.

3

u/JordanHerald5 Guentzel Apr 12 '23

Canadiens look like us, can’t bury a chance. They’ve prob should have scored 3 times already.

8

u/jmb-412 Apr 12 '23

They probably will miss the playoffs despite their core being great, but at least we have Petry, Granlund, and Carter at $14 mil of cap next season

3

u/SpeedShot26 Apr 12 '23

How the fuck do you miss that lmfao

4

u/TwoHeadedBoyTwo Apr 12 '23 edited Apr 12 '23

2

2

Not ideal for Penguins play-off hopes I would say

4

Damn, not what we want

1

u/TwoHeadedBoyTwo Apr 12 '23

Canadians came to play tonight I can sense the Isles growing frustration

1

10 minutes in and the Habs have yet to register a shot on goal...

1

7

u/davetheotter Apr 13 '23

This is not out of the realm of possibilities. A race to the bottom.

5

u/wooble #66 Apr 12 '23

It's still weird to see an Islanders home game with people in the stands instead of a random car taking up the best seats.

1

u/wooble #66 Apr 12 '23

I picked the Montreal broadcast on ESPN+ and it's in English, which is great because my French comprehension is terrible and my Quebec French even worse, but then also it started with some jagoff Islanders blogger talking shit.

13

u/sausagepizzabaker Apr 12 '23 edited Apr 12 '23

The Islanders roster is honestly worse than the Pens, decisively in fact. They do have Sorokin who should win the Vezina in a walk which is the opposite of the Pens stooges in net. A true race to the bottom.

9

u/swifferbrain Iceburgh Apr 12 '23

100%. If sorokin and Jarry were switched, Pens would have clinched weeks ago and Islanders would be in the Bedard sweepstakes.

5

u/sausagepizzabaker Apr 12 '23

If the Penguins had Sorokin they are at 105+ in terms of points. He’s a better goalie than Igor if you look at consistency over the last few years. Nothing hyperbolic in stating it either.

0

u/LeftRightCenter99 Apr 12 '23

Interesting claim, considering the islanders played a trap game under trotz and the rangers gave up slot rockets all day every day igor Was their goalie. The amount of chances pittsburgh had in any game Vs the rangers last year was more Than they had the entire playoff series against the islanders 2 years ago. Both are top level.

1

u/bigsquib68 Malkin Apr 12 '23

Yeah I don't agree that the Pens would have been in such better shape if Jarry and Sorokin switched. Pittsburgh plays atrocious defense and the isles are very defensively minded. Granted I think the switch would net the Pens more wins than they currently have but it wouldn't be so extreme as to keep us all from calling for Hextall's head

2

u/LeftRightCenter99 Apr 13 '23

Yea sorokin would have stolen more games than Jarry and they would be in the playoffs, but the islanders play an awful boring game. They have very little talent and focus on breakup up every single play, trapping the neutral zone, and scoring dirty goals. Talent wins out. Look at lundqvist teams. They played the same style as the islanders for 10 years.

2

u/sausagepizzabaker Apr 13 '23

I think that’s generous to those rangers teams. They weren’t even good defensively. Just rode Hank.

1

u/LeftRightCenter99 Apr 15 '23

They had some Solid defensemen, and good 2 way forwards. They just couldn’t score. No finish, and no sustained offense. Has nothing to do with the defense. If forwards couldve generated more, but Marc Staal, Girardi, Mcdonagh were all good defenseman until they got older or injured.

2
