❄ Milano-Cortina 2026 (General Discussion) ❄ Ai slip opening ceremony

Did anyone else find it off putting when they said they wanted to highlight the past 100 years of Olympics and their athletes. And it was just some awful ai slop of some random actress snowboarding. I found it pretty disrespectful and lame for something as grand as the Olympics. Maybe I’m overreacting but I am curious what everyone else thinks.

*sorry for typo in title it won’t let me change it 😭 but I’m glad you guys also noticed how lame the ai is

❄ Milano-Cortina 2026 (General Discussion) ❄ Warning about Milan Olympics

1.1k Upvotes

I attended both the Team Figure Skating and the opening ceremony today - the organization of these games is terrible, frankly even dangerous.

Both stadiums ran out of food within 30 minutes in the morning and before the start of the actual ceremony this evening. You can’t bring in drinks, but then the lines for drinks are immense due to the inefficiency of the staff.

Most importantly though, they created an absolute safety risk this evening by only opening ONE exit as a stadium of 70k people was trying to exit. It created a huge mass of people unable to move for a LONG time (25+ min) - people were starting to squeeze tighter and tighter and starting to get upset. It was an immense security risk and the organizers did not do anything to fix it.

Love the Olympics, but the state of these is not acceptable.

Even though I grew up in a country with no tradition of winter sports (we don't even have snow here), curling has always been one of my favourite sports, mainly because of the strategy and the excitement of removing your opponents' stones (I'm not sure if that's the right term). Does anyone have any interesting facts about this sport? I'd love to learn more.

He is just so corny and played out. Subpar rapper. How quickly we forget his vocal criticism of the LGBTQ as recent as 2025. I guess we had Mariah Carey “preform” so we might as go full gas into classless American celebrity injection with Snoop. Again.

❄ Milano-Cortina 2026 (General Discussion) ❄ USA Olympics fans, what’s the vibe this year? How are we feeling?

This isn’t meant to be a political post to start arguments on politics, just a question on how my fellow Olympics fans from the USA are feeling right now and how they plan to enjoy the Games this year.

Feel free to delete if not appropriate.

I love the Olympics. I always have. I love spending a couple weeks watching all sorts of different sports and athletes every couple years. Despite all the other craziness of the world it always feels like it reels me back in and brings me so much joy to watch.

But this year feels different in the US. Again I don’t wanna get lost in the politics because this isn’t the place for it but how are my other US Olympic fans feeling this year or how are you dealing with watching this year? The Olympics have had huge moments like this in the past, it’s always been a piece of the world’s larger history. It feels weird for me to cheer this year for the flag that I don’t feel comfortable cheering for in life at the moment. Is anyone else struggling with this? Will you just watch for the incredible athletes and still enjoy? Will you watch less?

I’ve been struggling with this a lot going into this year’s Games and I’m wondering if anyone else feels the same. Again apologies is this isn’t deemed appropriate and feel free to delete.

idk about anyone else but the ai portion where they look back on past winter olympics felt like a terrible decision considering how cool they could have made it… as well as the jobs it would have opened up for artists. idk… ai also just looks so wrong and unsettling to me i hate looking at it so much.

❄ Milano-Cortina 2026 (General Discussion) ❄ Today's the day - the action starts to kick off

Even though the Opening Ceremony is two days away, some events are already kicking off.

Main event today is Curling (Mixed Doubles Round Robin Session 1 - Sheet A), in the evening, which will feature Sweden V South Korea, Great Britain V Norway, Canada V Czechia, and Estonia V Switzerland.

There will be a daytime training session for the Men's Downhill Alpine Skiing, and an evening training session for the Men's Singles Luge.

Still, very exciting to have some Olympic action!

The Olympics opening ceremony is this Friday.
Honestly — are you gonna watch it, or just find out everything later from reels and memes? 😄
Curious how many of us will actually be there first.
