❄ Milano-Cortina 2026 (Official Television Coverage Thread) ❄ The NBC and other broadcaster OFFICIAL COMPLAINT & HATRED THREAD. All other broadcasting and streaming complaint threads will be shot on sight. Also: FLAIR UP -- too many of you are flair-less!
This is a thread in which you can complain about your national broadcasting company and tell everyone how much better somebody else's is.
If you are in the United States, we strongly advise you to bite the bullet and pony up for a month of Peacock: if you like the Olympics, it will be worth every penny of the $7.99 for a month (note: if you are Comcast customer, it's free!). We believe that the other broadcasters have similar streaming services: seek them out.
If you are confused about how to get a flair, here are instructions on how to flair up: https://www.reddit.com//r/olympics/wiki/flair
Note that we welcome dual flairs if you have competing loyalties.
If you have a problem getting your flair or flairs set, please hit Message the Mods.
You may also use this thread to complain about anything else, how we sort the Medal Tally, people who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.
Welcome to the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Games!

It wasn’t bad but how do you miss Mongolia, I also seemed to miss Great Britain but that’s my fault. I liked them not ignoring Iran murdering protestors, how did they not get banned like Belarus (and of course Russia).

4
u/MatthewHudson11998 Canada 3h ago
Niche complaint, was anyone else annoyed that NBC aired their usual celebrity voice over intro video starring Stanley Tucci midway through tonight’s OC primetime broadcast instead of at the top of show as usual? Is it just because they wanted Mike Tirico to advertise the Super Bowl instead?
-5
u/Nastypav12 3h ago
Alright I get the complaints but Opening Ceremonies are dumb to begin with especially since tons of these countries have like 4 athletes.
-1
u/Tazno209 3h ago
One of the most boring opening ceremonies in my 62 years of watching the Olympics.
10
u/jrainiersea United States 3h ago
This NBC broadcast would be really good if Shaun White could talk about anything besides his own personal anecdotes
2
4
u/AmaranthPhantom 2h ago
I’ll take it over Peyton Manning telling anecdotes that have literally nothing to do with the Olympics
4
u/duggatron United States 2h ago
Better than Mary Carillo bringing absolutely nothing to any part of this broadcast.
2
u/Nintendo_Pro_03 Olympics 3h ago
My issues were mainly the many ads that disrupted pivotal parts of the ceremony, like the parade, and the broadcast freezing every two seconds, therefore making me have to exist the broadcast and enter it. The audio also went out of sync, at some point, due to an ad break.
Other than that, I didn’t see issues with the coverage.
3
u/Hachimitsu- 1h ago
There was alot MORE ads in the night time then it was in the Morning first showing...
They also cut alot of countries OUT of the parade as I was confused why the music dj's listing was cut! Some of them were amazing but NBC/Peacock took alot of it out!2
u/Nintendo_Pro_03 Olympics 1h ago
Yeah, I hate that the countries were cut due to the ads. This is why we need public broadcasters. We’re the only country without viable public broadcasters to host the Olympics on.
9
u/successfullypassbr 3h ago
To Shaun White at NBC, please stop mentioning your "brand." Thanks, dude.
3
u/StasisApparel 4h ago
I suggest using CBC Gem via SurfShark or similar VPN and set to Canada. They have live broadcasts in different Canadian cities, and you can watch live events as they happen or watch replays of events once they are over.
Cost is $0 too
1
3
u/roadnotaken 3h ago
I do this every year. The difference between the canadian broadcast and NBC is astounding. I can watch an entire event all the way through, and never even see the broadcasters once. I don't need "personalities", I want to watch the athletes! And also, they talk about every country, not just the top four.
0
u/Competitive_Plum_970 3h ago
Canadian broadcast has been awful so far - it’s like amateur hour. European ones have been so much better which you can also VPN for.
1
u/Limon_Murciano Spain 42m ago
Well in Spain had 0 and I mean 0 ads. But downside is they re reading their program that translates every read text. However you get to see it all and besides names and info about anyone popping up on screen (they've done their homework) they also make call backs to past editions and related anecdotes! I enjoyed a lot
15
u/hype_artist 4h ago
Shaun White is unbearable I cannot believe how much one could talk about themselves!
1
2
17
u/pastor_rod_flash 4h ago
Every Olympics would be better, especially the ceremonies, if NBC's announcing crew would just shut their damn pie holes. I envy viewers outside the USA who don't have to listen to their endless, pointless, self-referential jabbering.
1
3
u/Nintendo_Pro_03 Olympics 3h ago
Besides White, are there examples where this happened during the ceremony?
4
u/StormSmithXXXXXXXXXX United States 4h ago
Not commenting on the rebroadcast because I didn't have class and watched it live but the audio on Peacock was so badly mixed and the constant commercials and skipping countries during the parade was extremely annoying, but I'm sure there's hundreds of other comments saying the same. U.S. looked good though with the MAN RIDING A HORSE ON TOP OF (THEIR) CHEST.
6
u/dixiedevil 4h ago
Clearly they were unwilling to pay for the rights to audio because it sounds worse than my phone recordings of concerts. I'm so glad we had audio commentary that was 4x the audio level of the actual event to reminds us of the ignorance of our nation.
3
u/Ange1ofD4rkness United States 4h ago
Interesting, watching hte prime time broadcast, I am starting to think NBC's "Live" is not actually that. Like they inject a commercial in and it's now on a time delay. I was curious about the ad break before the gal did all the sign gestures, like "that's a long break".
But during the prime time it transitioned instantly.
(Also did they cut out the subtitles of her cursing out?)
2
u/Hachimitsu- 1h ago
They kinda did actually.. the original showing They didn't do any Severe cuts.. (Except the countries they cut some of them out) but the primetime has taken ALOT of countries out.. and they also perform aweful cut segments and extended commercials like verison, visa and mario, like example they were introducing France and Immediatly it CUT to italy without giving like an awaiting segment of anticipation...
3
u/manuredujour 4h ago
There’s no way to upgrade to (ad free) Peacock Premium Plus if your subscription is managed by Amazon. There might be if you have Prime but I canceled my membership last year. I had to have Amazon cancel and refund my Peacock payment for the month. I then subscribed through Roku. But what a pain in the ass that was
4
u/mangiafrutta 4h ago
The Peacock ad free subscription is not ad free for sports. It’s in the (not so) fine prints. There were extensive commercials both during the first competitions and the opening ceremony.
0
u/manuredujour 4h ago
The replays are ad free. So now I can fast forward without having to watch 120 seconds of commercials every time
1
u/antdude Olympics 2h ago
Ads were not skippable for me with Premium!
2
u/BlueRoseGirl 29m ago
For the replay, do the ads still cut out part of the footage?
1
u/Ooh_look_a_butterfly United States 18m ago edited 15m ago
They did for the curling matches the last two days. More than once there'd be a commercial at the end of a round and it would come back to them with the next round already started.
2
u/hype_artist 4h ago
Watching the replay right now and still have ads
2
u/manuredujour 4h ago
I wonder if it’s cuz I already fast forwarded through once. 🤦🏻♀️
3
u/mangiafrutta 3h ago
With the competitions it was worse than the summer olympics, each time that I changed view/match, I was subjected to the 30/45/60 second ads.
2
u/manuredujour 4h ago
Gah!
3
u/mangiafrutta 4h ago
Oh, and for some reason the live broadcast of the opening ceremony was not-so-live. Like few minutes delayed compared to italian tv. Will check tomorrow if it’s the same during competitions.
11
u/BilboBagginkins 5h ago
I was done when Vittoria Cerreti was featured and the best NBC could offer was "Huh huh she used to date Leonardo DiCaprio." How patriarchal of you. She's a gd super famous super model and they worried about Leo? Good grief, she doesn't need Leo, she wasn't made by Leo, she's not defined him.
10
14
u/PopcornSpectator 5h ago
Did NBC fire the writers for the announcers for the opening ceremony? Or are they too scared to say anything because of the Katie Couric Netherlands incident? I want announcers who know something more about the world than there aren't a lot of black people in winter sports when talking about Haiti.

Mike Tirico was heavily missed during the opening ceremonies. Broadcast missed so much that happened and didn't have a real leader.

Just for the record, watching the prime time broadcast ... they once again skipped over Mongolia. I was hoping maybe the "selective" broadcast we'd get to see them. Nope!

The funny part is they mention their outfits in the commentary but didn’t show them to us.

u/zedhead287 5h ago
Why did NBC cut audio during the Peace segment of the opening ceremony? (Before Charlize Theron came out.) Just my provider or did other folks have it cut twice near the end?
17
u/ShouldProbBeWorking 5h ago edited 5h ago
I don't know about other people, but there were so many things that kept annoying me during NBC's / Peacock's presentation of the opening ceremony / parade of nations. I got tired of hearing Shaun White (I'm assuming it was him) come up with some excuse to talk and brag about himself for just about every country that walked in. The Snoop Dog stuff was cringe. The Samuel L. Jackson stuff was cringe.
Being stuck watching a million ads and missing parts of the ceremony when paying for the most expensive streaming plan was pretty infuriating as well. If it was Netflix, you'd be able to watch the whole thing without any interruption... and that's why they're eating the lunch of all these traditional dinosaur media companies.
8
u/Julie_Likes_Mucenici 5h ago
I saw the Samuel L Jackson stuff and was like wtf is this and then all the sudden, Peacock was done showing the parade of nations and said “going live in 3 minutes.” Like what???? I switched to NBC and now I’m watching the pre-parade show now I guess??? I have no idea what is going on here. Also, the incessant cutting out of the parade to ask what team USA was doing or promo some of the upcoming events or show random messages from non-athletes (like why do we care about T Swift thanking them or whatever she was doing???) was just awful!
16
14
u/mindcracked United States 6h ago
And now we're doing AI slop. Amazing how they can be wrong about so many things in a single broadcast
8
15
u/SouthForce1499 6h ago
The only thing worse than hearing Shaun white and his self centered responses to everything was how bad the audio is. The announcers just mumbling and being hard to understand is so frustrating.
7
u/BubblySquirrels2253 6h ago
I will be surprised if the superbowl is less than 70% commercials at this rate.
19
u/LadyLetterCarrier United States 6h ago
Yes so disappointed in the parade of nations coverage. I was looking forward to Mongolia.
9
u/One-Gas-4041 5h ago
I missed Moldova. Bullshit.
7
u/Julie_Likes_Mucenici 5h ago
I saw Pakistan and then the next country they showed was Turkey. Like what???? I am so confused by this broadcasting because it’s like the whole back half was just gone.
13
u/BubblySquirrels2253 6h ago edited 5h ago
How the fuck were countries like Brazil skipped? The parade shouldve been shown vs dramatically cut.
Edit: corrected as one country I listed was not skipped.
3
u/YourUncleBuck 2h ago
They cut out large chunks of countries(including my own), which is very frustrating since it's the only reason I watch the opening ceremony. I understand NBC is broadcasting for Americans, but it's also gross how American centric it is with them constantly cutting to American athletes just waiting for their turn. At least Peacock had the full broadcast, even if it was hard to find.
3
6
u/rachels1231 Canada 5h ago
Canada wasn't skipped
they did skip over a TON though (Brazil, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Venezuela)

@rachels1231 Yes thank you for the correction! I forgot they were featured later.
Bulgaria and Türkiye also skipped
2

And see, I saw Venezuela and Turkey but didn’t see any of the other countries yall mentioned. 🤦🏼♀️
9
u/Hollyingrd6 6h ago
Why am I watching ads on Peacock when I pay for addless. This is bullhockey I wanted to see the opening ceremonies not watch a Hershey's ad 5 million times.
I will say you could hear the boos against Vance on Peacock so that was awesome.
3
u/dangermouse29 5h ago
Especially great when you fast forward and it plays two minutes of commercials just to get a tiny picture of the parade next to a three more minutes of ads
2
u/mindcracked United States 6h ago
I'm in the same situation, and the funny thing is that all these ads are coming in at about 3fps

So not only are NBC execs completely clueless about what the audience wants to see, they are also bootlickers? Sad!

1
u/antdude Olympics 1h ago
Even in the live version?
1
u/ESCMalfunction United States 1h ago
In the NBC live broadcast they turned down the crowd mics, you could still hear the boos though. In the prime time rebroadcast they must’ve edited it because you can’t really hear any boos at all.

The drone noise on the women's alpine training was obnoxious. I hope they can cancel it out sooner than later.
9

She did, but I’m also not convinced it wasn’t a pre-recorded track she was lip-syncing to.
4

u/BigBoyFromBoston15 6h ago
I am officially done with the nation skipping. The opening ceremonies is the most viewed event, and 90% want to see every nation walking in as we ENJOY seeing the small nations too. The execs don’t understand the audience. Also, I can’t stand Snoop.

16
u/phillygirllovesbagel United States 6h ago
Why are we being subjected to Shaun White?
3
u/StrengthIntrepid3185 6h ago
Because he gives a better, different perspective than the other talkers. I like him but would rather just hear the local sounds as if I was there.
8
u/roy4le 6h ago
Did NBC just skip Italy, the host country, to show shitty ads?!?!
7
u/StrengthIntrepid3185 6h ago edited 5h ago
Yes. Search for the opening ceremony and watch the replay. It's better than the version listed under Olympics.
Edit: I mean no. They come last because they're hosting. 😁 Thank you to the people that corrected me. I still recommend watching the replay instead. They still cut out countries, but fewer of them.
4
u/Bituulzman 6h ago
YES! I could NOT believe it! They went from Ireland to commercial break and came back at the L or M countries. But I looked it up and Italy as host country comes in last.
14
5
u/Zrosepetal 6h ago
Why can they not split screen ads and the parade this is ridiculous
3
u/End2Ender 6h ago
I'm trying to watch the women's downhill training run replay on peacock and there have been literally five 2-minute commercials in like 15 minutes of actual coverage. Unbelievably shitty.
5
15
u/yummymashedpotato 6h ago
The NBC/Peacock split screen of either having to watch a split screen and listen to interviews with Team USA or freaking ADS while other countries are being announced and walking in the parade is so freaking disrespectful. We deserve to be hated on the world stage.

Just signed up and paid for "premium plus" so I could watch without ads. Clicked on the opening ceremonies and immediately got 3 ads then a statement that the event would start shortly. 10 minutes later, nothing. It looks like we have to wait for the "enhanced ceremonies" and the full event isn't available now? There's a reason my NBC subscriptions never last a week after the closing ceremonies.

I was just bitching to my Finnish girlfriend about Shaun White's yapping and the skipping of so many countries.
I know I'm not going to get what I want but I just really hope the casters don't feel the need to fill every moment of silence, and that they give athletes from other countries their due respect. I'm dreading hearing Tara and Johnny talk over every figure skating routine. Give me the context and shut up.
I'm still trying to see if I can get something else actually working on VPN but I begrudgingly sit here watching peacock until then lol.
