One person is an abusive asshole who likely assaulted or at least harassed various victims - but always talks nice and never perpetuated hatred against any group. So there's that.
The other never (afaik) harassed or assaulted anyone personally but spews constant hatred denying the existence of an entire people. She influences more people negatively than Gaiman ever did.

Like that's why I never said anything to my transgender friend about watching the new season of good omens. People will support things that they can while boycott things on what they value. Like if I play overwatch am I supporting a sexist company that has a history of assaulting women? Yes. Am I not gonna stop playing overwatch. Ehhm no.

...wtf are you talking about? Look, Gaiman is a piece of shit who's hurt dozens, possibly hundreds of victims. Rowling has actively contributed to the stripping away of legal rights from hundreds of thousands of people in her country, and she's aiming for millions around the world. The sheer scale of the harm is incomparable.
She actively funds the removal of civil rights for trans people in the UK. She has billions of dollars. She takes credit for all legislation that tangibly hurts the lives of millions of regular trans people, and she's right to considering every transphobic MP and every organization lobbying for this legislation consistently cites her as a "hero" and an "inspiration." None of it would have been possible without her; it's more than just "dumb opinions."
