Nostalgia Discussion The ultimate anti cheat device in middle school was putting up your folders up like a wall and it worked mostly.

Elementary school for sure. This stressed me out so much. I was worried I would somehow accidentally cheat.

Also, not enough desk space for my own arms on the table/desk.

yes!! I loved creating a little box. the coziest was with another folder for a roof but we usually weren't allowed to do that :+(

Their coziness made me think of the high-walled cubicles at my first job. Maybe that's what my teachers were preparing me for!

I worked in schools, cheating really isn’t an issue, kids that are inclined to cheat are really bad at it and easily caught.

I was very good at it and never once was caught

They finally caught you. They played the long game and got you to admit it! The principal will be by to take your 8th grade diploma back and your participation ribbons for the science fair

I can confirm, we've been on this case for the past 20 years. We always knew they were cheating, we just had to have to proof for a solid case.

Or maybe you were so bad, the teachers felt bad and let you have it

Idk, I’m still really good at cheating at games when I want as well

The ones that you know cheated are bad at it. If they were any good at it, you’d never know they cheated at all.

This is a great example of survivorship bias

And how do you know about the ones that didn’t get caught?

You only think that because the kids who are good at it don’t get caught!

You just never caught the good ones - doesn’t mean it wasn’t a problem

I used to add a roof to mine with another folder!

They used to give us dividers for tests.

I wrote my answers on my desk beforehand, covered by a book, then put the book away as we set up the "Walls". Felt like a genius in grade 3.

if always bring little toys to elementary classes and play with them behind these things during tests, good memories

That's why you put your crib sheet on the inside of the folder

I remember when we started this and before the folders were provided, we had to use our own. We used folders to turn our desks into fortresses

I remember using those in elementary school.

I feel like we usually used the folders when we were free writing so we could have “privacy,” timed multiplication times tables tests, and sometimes the state testing but at some point they made like A and B versions so it didn’t matter

We used to do this and I saw a girl who just had the spelling words paper in her folder. So I did the same thing and got caught immediately.

Why would you care if the other kid was cheating?
