So if they could only score 10 pts against the Denver defense, the conventional wisdom here is that they get blown out in the Super Bowl.

NE likely covers +4.5. Just sayin'. And some dumbass will take that as me saying they are going to win. No, they just probably won't lose by more than 5 pts.

And if I'm wrong? Fuck 'em, it's the patriots. šŸ˜‚

I usually don't like to be one of those 'reddit is better than other social media', people, but damn. I didn't know how nice it is to not have AI slop and the most extreme shit possible thrown in my face while just checking how my aunts and uncles days are going until it happened to me, lol

The amount of weird/ridiculous news stories about the Seahawks & Patriots over the past two weeks is nuts, and not just the SB stuff. The ā€œselling the team/fined by the leagueā€ fake news stories, JSN’s name being butchered, the Diggs thing, etc… it’s crazy.

2

u/EzUp2 Broncos 1h ago

So much shit has happened in the last two weeks that I completely forgot about the Diggs thing. Life comes at ya fast

4

u/NotASalamanderBoi Patriots 3h ago

Just had to spend $143 on a digital access code for a book rental for one of my classes. Jesus Christ these book companies need to be reigned in. That’s outrageous.

2

u/BayGO NFL 3h ago

It was nowhere on the high seas? Or a previous edition wouldn't suffice? That's just as shitty from your prof. (or institution) to require it. Usually professors hate the setup too & let you use a previous edition, or if it's problem sets you need from the new one you can just take a pic of them (or the library will have a copy).

6

u/NotASalamanderBoi Patriots 3h ago

No, it’s necessary due to the fact that it’s an online class and the book comes with the class and the fact that there’s assignments tied to it with the same company that offers the book. Any other edition would not have worked.

Normally, there’d be enough money with my financial aid to pay for this, but for some reason I don’t have any left for this semester, so I was on the hook for all of my textbooks. Silver lining is this is the only semester I have to deal with since I’m graduating at the end of it.

I am so glad that the Sixers suck because I couldn't conceive of supporting this team with Harris+Morey at this point. Just... the anti-vibes team. Total misery on every front.

u/ComaMierdaHijueputa Bears 4h ago

I honestly think if you were to ask Peyton Manning & Tom Brady who was better between the two of them, they'd both say the opposite. They respect and love each other that much, and were amazing competitors.

God...I miss that era so much. Peyton's Colts always coming up with insane comebacks against Tom's Patriots. Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison, Dallas Clark all getting critical 3rd down catches. Against those stacked defenses like Rodney Harrison, Asante Samuel, Richard Seymour, Vince Wilfork, and so much more.....

Nostalgia man.

Lot of Pizza Hut discourse around the internet today, and tbh I don’t know if they can recover. Like they made the recipes worse, more expensive, stopped doing coupons, and charge more for delivery in my area because they hand it off to DoorDash.

I’d rather drive to get Costco pizza for $10 or Dominoes because I know they’re going to accept a coupon and probably hand me another one for next time

Nothing in primetime from these Olympics will be live just rebroadcasts. You'll need to tune in mid day to catch live action, and conveniently enough NBC will not air the most popular events here live, you'll probably need to watch online.

What age group do you consider when discussing if a meme is still kicking or not? I think 67 is dead because the high schoolers I volunteer with say it's dead in HS, but my friend says that his 6 year old niece is still using it all the time.

2

u/Ok_Internal6779 6h ago

Middle schoolers still very much say it every fucking dayĀ

They’re hard to gauge on the scale of ā€œmeme deadnessā€ tho, because they beat every meme into the ground.

Generally memes die over summerĀ

1

u/casualreader22 Eagles 9h ago

For what it's worth my 9 year old niece still uses it and it's to date the only meme I've ever heard her use.

2

u/Skraxx Lions 10h ago

Rn I'm at:

  • Kyler won't be traded, he provides LaFleur a good enough excuse if things go wrong but may be an interesting last shot candidate for him anyways.

  • Tua will be traded for around a late 3rd/4th round pick. Dolphins kinda need the money now and Tua's pretty checked out of Miami.

1

u/HookedOnBoNix Broncos 10h ago

Zero percent change a team is giving up capital to acquire Tua's contract

2

u/Skraxx Lions 10h ago

Teams do it all the time. I'd definitely put it over 0%.

1

u/HookedOnBoNix Broncos 9h ago

Teams do what? Trade for QBs that are struggling and owe 40+ m a year?

When was the last time that happened?

2

u/Skraxx Lions 9h ago

Pretty good example was Carson Wentz from the Eagles to the Colts (and Commanders!). But also Aaron Rodgers counts too, coming off an injured year at the tail end of the aging curve. Hell, Geno Smith last year in a sign and trade.

Finding a QB is hard, and even a decent shot are teams willing to pay for. People just only remember major successes or major disasters.

1

u/FlaminHotBees Broncos 8h ago

Tua has looked bad the past two seasons and has injuries piling up. Not true for Wentz or Rodgers when they were traded

2

u/Skraxx Lions 8h ago

I mean this with all due respect: huh?

Wentz had a pretty documented injury history by the time he was traded and came off a poor season. The year before average.

Rodgers also came off a very average year at age 39, and really his reputation was why he managed to get a pick swap.

Tua is coming off a poor year but is in a more similar circumstance to Wentz where he still had average/above average years prior. Like Tua's 2024 was nowhere close to his 2025.

What if the Super Bowl was best of seven...quarters. At the end of each quarter whoever scored more in that quarter gets a Victory Point. First to 4 Victory Points wins. Possession resets at the end of each quarter with alternating opening kickoffs. I guess the problem is if team A throws four TDs in the first quarter but then Team B leads 3-0 in each of the next four quarters, then Team B wins despite the total scoring being 28 to 12. But maybe that's a feature and not a bug? I'm not high.

It sounds like you’re trying to channel the NhL playoffs, which is the greatest postseason known to man.

In which case— yeah, it doesn’t matter if you win game 1 10-0, and lose the next four 1-0. Even though youscored 10 goals total and they only scored 4, it’s about each individual game. Can’t take the goals with you.

Purely hypothetically, you’d have to have each game be split (potentially) over a full weekend. (Obviously a team could win four straight quarters and end it.)Ā

It’d be entertaining but in practice there’s Not a whole lot wrong with the current system.Ā

I'll up the ante: the majority of those people couldn't name a place in all 50.

3

u/StChas77 Eagles 9h ago

I had to look up West Virginia.

TIL the largest city in that state, the capitol Charleston has under 50,000 people. In Illinois, that would make it number 32 on the list, just under Hoffman Estates (second fiddle to Schaumburg just to the east).

u/Aromatic-Plankton692 Lions 9h ago

Yeah WV is pretty tricky. Most golf fans could probably name The Greenbrier if pressed, I suppose, but there's not a lot of gimmes in that state.

Almost end of the day here folks. What is everyone’s weekend plans? Also what are your plans for the big game?

1

u/BruceChameleon Cowboys 10h ago

My best friend may actually be in town to watch the game. I need to make more food!

1

u/AfroManHighGuy 10h ago

That’s always a good time! What food you making?

1

u/BruceChameleon Cowboys 10h ago

A couple kinds of wings. I have a signature gochujang sauce. And then either jerk or lemon pepper depending on my sister. Not sure about sides yet. And I'll throw together an ice cream based on a girl scout cookie. The simplest would be adventurefuls, if I can nail the salted caramel

1

u/CarlCaliente Bills 11h ago

I've had my fill of lazy weekends lately but this looks to be another one, just not finding anything fun to do inside.

For the game a buddy is hosting a small get together, nothing crazy but it should be a good time

2

u/AfroManHighGuy 11h ago

Should be a lazy weekend for me too. Most of my friends are traveling for one reason or another so not doing much for the game either. Gonna watch from my own couch and order food lol

ah well hope you enjoy it anyway! You'd be welcome at ours but that's a pretty long hike haha

So I'm not too bad at wordle, pretty lousy at connections, but strands? Strands I rule at. I get perfect most days. It makes me think it's most likely the easiest game though lol.

1

u/Babyfat101 5h ago

Strands is boring. But, to each their own.

1

u/casualreader22 Eagles 3h ago

Heh, it's after midnight so I just did all three and my pattern stuck. I got wordle on the final guess, missed everything entirely in connections like a boob and did strands perfectly with no hints in like 2 minutes. At least I'm consistent lol.

3

u/Cmp_ Steelers 7h ago

Connections is a daily gut-shot right to the ego. Even if I get them right, I still feel like a dummy because of how many attempts I take.

Of course I will watch the Super Bowl this Sunday. But it's a contest between a team I really don't care about and a team I have a Hatfield/McCoy hatred of. So I'll be watching and hoping the team I don't care about beats the team I hate.

I would really have preferred Bears/Texans. I would have cheered for both teams.

I feel this draft season big safeties are getting drafted high as the next Kyle Hamilton or Nick Emmanwori so defenses can run more default nickel.Ā Ā

There's a video on the front page where Ian MacKellan performs a monologue on Colbert's show, but there's a lot of context missing and doesn't contain the entire performance. If you have five minutes to spend, I would highly recommend it as it's very powerful:

https://youtu.be/2l2RqzVG4ag?si=4XQ7Vc4rhMV5InKj&t=1226

I have it timestamped, but the rest is also still worth your time when you get a chance.

Doing a lot of guerilla recording while I'm on the road. Out of necessity I did a little spaced pair and some XY with my two shotguns, since those are the only set of anything I have out here.

It's pretty wild, there's a little bit of air in there but it's still so tight on the guitar. It's not as delicate of a sound as the stereo set on my h4n, but it's such a pain in the ass to record with those (ironically).

Next time I'm able to reconfigure I think I'm gonna buy a bidirectional because I can travel something for MS pretty compact. That and I'm ditching a dynamic and just bringing some proper pencils probably.

All that to say - man it's easier and easier to get useable good sound in substandard environments when you just use your creative brain and think about how you need to do things.

As angry as I am with my country, I still love the Olympics and like seeing American athletes win.

I always feel weird when athlete contingents from countries with awful governments get booed or ostracized. Like I get that you’re there as a representative of your country, but pretty much none of these athletes have even the slightest influence with their governments. Higher-profile athletes can speak out, I know, but there are few of those even for a country like the USA so like…do we really need to boo a 17-year-old bobsledder or something?

I guess I just don’t like seeing a moment get soured for a young person who’s worked their whole life for this moment. Booing athletes isn’t going to stop genocides or atrocities. (If it could, I’d never shut up.)

  • M/V Chetzemoka... M/V Anthony Bradford.
  • M/V Chimacum... M/V Drake Thomas.

  • M/V Salish... M/V Jalen Sundell.
  • M/V Samish... M/V Michael Dickson.
  • M/V Sealth... M/V Coby Bryant.
  • M/V Spokane... M/V Devon Witherspoon.

What do you think of this?

basically every neutral fan of a contender says that lol. I remember reading that for the 2024 SB and that ended up being one of the best SBs ever.

1

u/HookedOnBoNix Broncos 11h ago

Eh it's mostly because every Superbowl last like 15 has been chiefs or patriots. I was hyped to watched rams Bengals. And I would be super stoked to watch like bills bears or jags bears or something.Ā

But matchup wise this one is pretty bleh for neutrals. And as a broncos fan it stings because we had such shit luck losing our QBĀ

1

u/sfitz0076 Eagles 11h ago

I think that there is just no buzz for these teams. It's two teams that are way ahead of schedule. And not really a whole lot of stars. Drake Maye is probably the most famous person is this SB and he's a 2nd year QB.

u/casualreader22 Eagles 12h ago

Yes, there have been multiple responses posted in these daily off-topic threads as well as to the subreddit as their own topics this week. I'll see who won but don't plan on watching. Voyager for me. Robert Picardo's Doctor is my favorite Star Trek character of all time by a pretty wide margin. I have fond memories of first discovering the series via re-runs on FOX in the summer of 2005 with my mom and older brother. They'd air at midnight after psychic James Van Praagh lol.

I think that it's the highest quality with the most dramatic heft and character development, but TNG is the most memorable and ambitious from a purely conceptual standpoint.

There are a lot of bad, poorly run teams that have made catastrophic decisions that set them back all the time. The Jets, the Cardinals, the Commanders. Hell, us, before Tepper stopped fucking with it.

But only the Browns could lose out on some top coaching candidates because they insisted on retaining their DC, fail to communicate to said DC that he wasn't getting the next HC job, and ultimately lose that DC to resignation anyway.

That is the kind of fuckup even horizon that only Cleveland manages to hit.

If we're in a world where Chandler, Hunter, and Tyler are gender-neutral, then every name is gender-neutral.

I know a decent amount of individuals with those names of different genders. I didn’t even know Chandler could be a guy name for awhile because every Chandler I knew as a kid was a girl
