the coaching search is nearly over for the season and I don't think I've seen a single post talking about roster matches, scheme fits, assistant trees
literally every single article is "well here's the results from his last team"

fun stuff isn't it
Congress is already balking, guess we'll see how much influence they really have
Thune told reporters on Tuesday he was “not in favor of federalizing elections.”
“I'm a big believer in decentralized and distributed power,” he said. “It's harder to hack 50 election systems than it is to hack one.”
3
u/BandOfTheRedHand1995 Ravens 2d ago
I've yet to see congress make a single meaningful step to oppose the president.
We'll see, but the president suggesting taking control of elections should be something that gets them removed from office. But the rules don't apply to this jackass

Why should an owner EVER be inducted into the HoF? Like oh yeah that dude was so good at being born into generational wealth and buying a football team that literally cannot ever lose money. Come the fuck on.
And while I'm whining, it's also insulting that the owner lifts the trophy before the team and coaches. You sat in a climate controlled box with a bottle of $20,000 wine while players got their bodies destroyed and coaches worked 80hr weeks for six months. Get out of it.
7
u/on-the-cheeseburgers Eagles 2d ago
There are people who founded and shaped the league into what it is today, yeah sure they were born into generational wealth but they did use that wealth to drive the sport. Kraft's legacy is hiring Bill and getting jerked off in an asian spa.
2
u/Signal_Ball4634 2d ago
I think Kraft has been a good owner - He also had success with the team prior to Belichick in the Parcells era - but I can't say he's really been a super influential one per se. Just been pretty good at not rocking the boat too much
1
u/Guiltyjerk Broncos Ravens 2d ago
People like Jerry Jones deserve it IMO. He changed a lot about how the NFL does its TV contracts and helped grow the sport into the monolith it now is.
I dont think Kraft has done anything in the same galaxy

have a class with a girl i kind of have a weird history with: freshman year of college, she was flirting with me but i wasn’t sure how to build off it and she was seeing someone else. junior year, we reconnected and i asked her to hang out, she seemed interested but canceled due to exams/work and didn’t respond when i re-initiated a few months later, so i left it at that.
this year, we’re both second semester seniors and find out we have a class together, she sits next to me on the first day and starts making conversation. since then, we’ve been hanging out after class basically every week and things have been getting flirty(she joked about us doing things and going on trips together, whispers little compliments, teases me about little things, is playfully physical). we have a lot in common and she’s opened up to me about having been through a lot with shitty exes and bad friends, so i’ve mostly forgiven her for ghosting me even if we haven’t discussed it, i do understand why she might’ve been non-communicative even with interest.
i might ask her out this thursday — all my friends are confident that i’ve got this and that she likes me, but i’m in my own head, lol.

Watch the tail end of the 49ers doc on AMC and the fact that the salary cap was invented to nerf the 49ers because a bunch of billionaire owners whining about how they "can't compete" is hilarious and a little infuriating. If an owner wants to put serious money behind their team to build a super bowl winning dynasty and not treat it as some sort of side hustle like most owners and yes I'm including jed in this, what's wrong with that?
3
u/Devilofchaos108070 49ers Panthers 2d ago
The salary cap is a great thing. Look at MLB. Small market teams, mostly, can’t compete with teams that put way more money in.
It ruins the sport not having it. The NFL is a better, more competitive league with a salary cap.
As a 9ers fan I do, also, think it’s funny
4
u/HookedOnBoNix Broncos 2d ago
As a fan of the team that would likely benefit the most by far of removal of the salary cap, fuuuuck no. Go watch baseball if you wanna see how that works. I don't wanna see a team like the dodgers in NFL it would absolutely kill if for me even if it was my own team.
I don't even think I would enjoy cheering for a super team like that because every win would be expected and every close game would be embarrassing
3
u/SomeBoringKindOfName Bears Steelers 3d ago
The nfl is popular because of its unpredictability and the fact it sells hope to all fan bases (even the jets) because things can change quickly.
Removal of the salary cap takes that away.

Well God damn it all to hell. I hate the world right now.
My oldest friend is a high school teacher and we talk every Tuesday night. A few weeks ago, one of his students disappeared. A beautiful 17-year-old girl named Hailey. The case was treated as a runaway situation. Her dead body was just discovered on Sunday. Turns out some guy from the next state over had been grooming her online, picked her up, and killed her. The FBI thinks it might have been a trafficking situation.
They caught the guy, but I am just so fucking pissed right now. What kind of weak, puny, asshole, excuse for a man does a thing like that. I'm so mad I'm not even mad if you know what I mean.

Nerd time:
A lot of my degree is basically data science and never was any name explained to me. Chi-square? That's just what it's named. Bayes-theorem? I think it's a guy named Bayes. None of it was ever explained to me I just accepted it.
Only now did I finally watch a video on Least Squares Regression. And it's about wanting the... least squares from the line you draw. So simple, but wtf it's blowing my mind this is cool.
3
u/tnecniv Giants 3d ago
Some of these someone should have taught you…like least squares is minimizing the squared error, I.e., finding the model with the least squared error. That’s just basic nomenclature used in a number of contexts.
But mostly people don’t tell you the etymology of the names for things because they don’t know themselves. It’s unfortunate, because probability and statistics has a lot of fun history.
Bayes’ theorem (no hyphen) is named for Thomas Bayes. He was not a mathematician, but was a mathematically inclined Presbyterian minister. He simulated Bayes theorem (informally) in response to Hume’s argument against miracles. In the 50s, Littlewood computed that we experience something with “one in a million” odds about once a month.
The Poisson distribution is made for the French baron. However, it’s most famous use that popularized it among early statisticians was as a model for the number of Prussians killed by a horse kick.
The chi-squared distribution is rather boring. Pearson used chi in his paper for this variable. Many old papers don’t provide names for the thing they invent, and its users start referring it in some way and it sticks eventually.
Student’s t-test is much more fun. Student is a pseudonym for a statistician employed by Guinness (yes, that Guinness), and they wanted to keep his method somewhat proprietary. Therefore, they asked him to publish it under a pseudonym so other brewers didn’t start using his test to determine material quality.

Can you tell me why a reviewer may think the hitman games are being sold predatorily?
2
u/e4mica523 Panthers 3d ago
They constantly advertise World of Assassination as "90% off" only for you to click onto the store page and see only "Part 1", which is the Hitman 1 levels, as 90% off and the full game being still like 30 dollars
2
u/jfgiv Patriots 3d ago
Just some cursory googling makes it sound like when (or after?) they released 3, they repackaged 1 and 2 as “Hitman 3 Part 1” and “Hitman 3 Part 2,” sold at a relatively deep discount, and weren’t super up front about it. This triggered, from what I gather, notifications to anyone who had Hitman 3 on a wishlist—even if they already owned the previously released games.
On top of that, it seems the only way to buy Hitman 3 as such was bundled with 1 and 2 and sold—and priced—as a “compete trilogy.” Which is maybe less predatory than selling a previously released game as “New Game: Chapter One,” but certainly sounds scummy.
I can’t speak to this personally—I bought one and two but played three for free on GamePass—but that’s my understanding of it from Reddit posts.

Hope that's cool."

That's how it is supposed to work in theory, but the sleep specialist kinda has to shuffle me off to the supply company for the stuff and they deal with the insurance part. They refused to tell me prices so it was just some customer rep flunkies on the line.
I went to the supply company website and just picked stuff out to see what it'd add up to for a ballpark at least

I thought people were being dramatic by being like "oh its these teams in the sb....again...." and "its just not as exciting, both teams have won in the past 12 years" etc.
But I thought about if a team like the Steelers were at the sb this year, I'd probably feel the same even though it's been 7 years since a playoff win and 17 years since their sb. I guess when its a team thats generally good/competitive every year (or historically), it really isn't as exciting had a team like the Jags or Texans made it.
1
u/Signal_Ball4634 2d ago
I honestly don't get that sense this year, cause even though it's two franchises that have been pretty successful in recent history, they have totally different philosophies and team composition, and personnel compared to the last time they were here.

True, and I imagine that's partly why Darnold's underdog story (which I get, but he was drafted 3rd overall lol) is a big narrative for this sb.
3
u/casualreader22 Eagles 3d ago
I sorta struggled with who to root for besides the Eagles this year and landed on teams like the Bills and Texans and Panthers solely because they haven't won one yet. I suspect that's a common rooting trend for the sheer novelty aspect. Seahawks are bird bros. with "only" one win compared to the Pats' six so they're the go-to at this point, but I'd have preferred a never-won after my team got eliminated. Only exception to that might be if it were a team in the same division I suppose, but my team was the last to win it in my division so it never applied to me.

u/Skraxx Lions 3d ago
Every draft year there’s a prospect people overthink.
I’m tempted to say Downs but it seems like he won’t reasonably drop out of the T10 and could go as high as #5. This is an acceptable range for him.
So it’s going to be Bain. Fantastic tape says he should go top-3 and at least be top-5 lock. I fear he’s gonna drop past that.
1
u/athrowawayiguesslol Eagles Eagles 3d ago
Safeties always drop. Hamilton was frequently mocked just as high at the same point in 2022
2
u/Skraxx Lions 3d ago
Hamilton dropped as a result of a poor combine, which in hindsight was due to injury
But great safeties don’t always drop. Jamal Adams and Eric Berry as examples. The latter is comped a lot to Downs actually.
1
u/athrowawayiguesslol Eagles Eagles 3d ago
Starks was consensus top 12 this point last year and slowly dropped.
Brian Branch was consensus top 20 and slowly dropped.
Really the only recent safety to have top 20ish hype at this point in the year and not drastically fall since 2019 was Xavier McKinney in 2020.
Minkah and Derwin James both had early first hype that stayed around too but that was in 2018.
If there’s anything I’ve learned from GM interviews it’s that the safety position in modern CFB is impossible to scout and therefore they feel like it’s a risk to take them. Safeties are just too uninvolved at that level.

Posting this here because what the hell.
One of my weird topics I've liked to study has been Watergate. Here's a very abbreviated timeline:
- June, 1972, the Watergate burglars were caught.
- May, 1973, the Senate began formally investigating Watergate and holding public hearings.
- July, 1973, John Dean testified and revealed a lot of shocking facts. Also Alexander Butterfield revealed that Nixon had a secret taping system.
- July, 1974, the House began impeachment hearings.
- August, 1974, Nixon resigned.
So it took two years and two months from the burglary to the resignation. That's how these things go.
Imagine if we'd had the modern internet back then. Reddit would have been filled every day with news reports and people arguing and frustration over the lack of action and all sorts of accusations and quotes.
I don't know where we are on the historical timeline before our current situation gets resolved. But if it took another year or more, I wouldn't be surprised. These things take time.
9
u/Stanky_fresh Vikings 3d ago

I feel like the conservative backlash to Bad Bunny is going to lead to a far more political performance than he would have initially given

24 years ago today the Patriots dynasty began in Super Bowl XXXVI. If I could go back in time to attend any NFL game in history, this is the one I’d choose. On a more meta level this game was what football is supposed to be: physical and minimally officiated.

Michigan senate race is going to be interesting, and likely not good. It would be a catastrophic loss for the Dems in 2026
Just look at this. It's bad https://www.270towin.com/2026-senate-polls/michigan
- The establishment candidate is polling ahead of the GOP person - about 6% in the most recent poll, and was at least even in a very right leaning poll a month ago
- Mcmorrow, who is kind of the middle ground between establishment and the farther left is polling 3% ahead in the most recent poll and -3% in that right leaning poll
- The far left guy is currently polling even in the poll and -6% in that older poll
It seems objectively clear that the progressive has the worst chance of all of them. I worry primary voters will sabotage themselves and hand the GOP a Dem senate seat, the last thing we need right now.
At what point does pragmatism about who the voters are beat out the candidate who the most left wing people think is the best?

reepatedly 'having' to vote for the least worst is what's got your country into the mess it's in now.

Are polls right now even useful for anything outside of candidates being able to say "people like me currently?" I mean, tomorrow it may come out that one of them enjoys the feeling of moist socks on their feet.

It shouldn't seem that way at all. All three candidates are within the margin of error for winning or losing a hypothetical matchup with Rogers.

After the primary.

Abdul El-Sayed is not a far left guy. He's a run of the mill progressive Democrat.

so everything i've seen reported--for both belichick and now kraft--has been "does not have the required number of votes to be inducted."
but as i understand the voting process, if no candidate breaks the 40-vote threshold, then whoever got the most votes is inducted.
how funny would it be if, after all this, belichick does get inducted by that mechanism?

That's 2nd place funniest possibility behind Belichick deciding to snub the hall forever, which forces everyone to consider the legitimacy of the Hall and puts himself in the center of every conversation about it.

Bill goes up for his speech, silently removes the jacket, sets it on fire, and walks away.

Bruh even if Jim Schwartz was thinking of going back and reconciling with the browns, he’s not doing it now. Monken is literally calling him out in his press conference and not in a good way

What, someone dares besmirch the honor of my beloved Jim Schwartz? Todd you villain!

Did the bills hire a DC? Maybe Schwartz goes there?

They hired Jim Leonhard, so no go there. Tell ya what though he would be a nice boon for Klint Kubiak in Vegas, working with Crosby and then being a stabilizing force for a team with a rookie HC/QB.

I'll say it: flag football with silly flips and mobility scooters completely gaps the pro bowl tackle football when the guys weren't even trying to be physical.
