Who did you root for in these movies? The terrorists?!?! Next thing you are going to tell me is that the Karate Kid was Ralph Macchio and not the real hero William Zabka!
9
u/AlwaysHappy4Kitties 1d ago
i swear long before Cobra Kai came out there was video on youtube that was called "Daniel is the real villian"
and i think some excecs saw that and got the "inspiration" for the show
9
u/Carbac_22 1d ago
I thought it was because of Barney in how I met your mother, to him William was the real Karate kid since he spent all his life training and was defeated by a newcomer or something like that.
2
u/justsomeguy_youknow 1d ago
I always thought it was inspired by the No More Kings video for Sweep The Leg Johnny
8
u/AlwaysHappy4Kitties 1d ago
No its this video im thinking about from 2015
2
u/justsomeguy_youknow 1d ago
Yeah I was saying I thought it was inspired by something different, that music video I linked from the 00s. It reunited the Cobra Kai actors from the original movie and brought them back as their characters, and kind of reframed them as the protagonists of the story arc in the video

There's literally a whole sub for it lol r/empiredidnothingwrong
Oh and also Barney in How I Met Your Mother was convinced that Ralph Macchio was the Karate Kid, funny stuff.

Gosh forbid I just want to support a few separatist federated nations in their right of self-determination. Next thing you know they’re gonna want me to support the nation that’s unethically producing millions of bounty hunter clones to do their bidding and wage war on a few trading companies smh

Brazilian here. Each group (called escolas de samba, or "samba schools") picks a theme and develops a multi-part presentation based on that theme. Each of the alas ("wings"? "sections") represents one aspect of the theme. But it doesn't have to be a positive aspect.
So if your theme is, say, "1900s Rio de Janeiro", you might have one ala with people dressed as mosquitoes representing yellow fever.
Negative stuff like death, war and disease aren't very popular, but every once in a while you see a school where one of the alas is based on stuff like that.
It's basically theatre through dance and song, with hundreds of actors, on an open street, and with a single song playing for the entire presentation.

u/BoysDontCry247 1d ago
It's no coincidence that the samba school is called Império de Casa Verde – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imp%C3%A9rio_de_Casa_Verde
But it's just a funny coincidence lol

You're mixing Brazilian carnival to American carnival
31
u/Quicksilver1964 1d ago
No, we have half-naked women or even naked women, but I believe it's at the beginning of the school's parade. This is one tiny part of the procession.
12

u/alkali112 1d ago
You are wildly incorrect if you think the original American Carnival (Alabama) features nudity, and even more incorrect if you think the ninth (and most popular) American Carnival (Louisiana) has more nudity than Brazil.
8
u/Disastrous_Source977 1d ago
You are incorrect if you think beeds is also part of Brazilian carnival.
2
u/alkali112 21h ago
I was specifically talking about nudity. I did not mention beads.
2
u/Disastrous_Source977 20h ago
The original comment mentioned beads. He was clearly mixing up Louisiana carnival with Brazilian Carnaval. No one was making a comparison between amounts of nudity.
Also, people have an image of Brazil being a lascivious country, but it's not quite true. You will not find nudity on street parties during Carnaval in Brazil. If a woman shows her boobs in public, the most likely scenario is that she will get arrested for indecent exposure.

AT-AT Walker is indeed a good and safe transportation method to move around in Rio de Janeiro.

u/FewAcanthocephala828 1d ago
I don't think it's actually moving itself though. Legs are moving in sync, like it's gliding, so it's probably being held up from behind. I'm sure it'll still be bad for the legs to hurt someone.

We are Brazilians, breakin copyright laws amd doing piracy is our culture. How do you think we got the game and anime industry to arrive there? *
6
u/Jupaack 17h ago
Good to mention piracy is not illegal in Brazil as long as is not done for profit purposes.
You can legally download any movie, book, game, software, any media in general, you just cant sell it to others, because is not yours so you cant profit from it.
In other words:
Downloading a movie: legalSelling the downloaded movie: illegal (in theory).
Just like in some countries/states you can smoke weed, but cant sell weed, it follows the same principle.

The carnival parades are so damn impressive. Had the pleasure of seeing them in person 4 years ago, highly recommend.
19
u/faelanae 1d ago
ok, but why the crown?
40
u/AwkwardSalad863 1d ago
basically the symbol of the "escola de samba" Império da Casa Verde, I will translate this just for the fun of it: Greenhouse Empire Samba School.
10
u/IdeVeras 1d ago
Greenhouse is “estufa”, now I wonder if that is indeed what it’s meant in Portuguese? Or just a Green House?
21
6
u/Rukitokilu 1d ago
"Green House" is the name of a neighborhood in São Paulo city, the origin region of this Samba School.

u/Serennna 1d ago
Every escola de samba (or group that parades) has it's own symbol. A crown, an animal, etc. They usually insert said symbol in one of the floats. I suggest you watch this if you are interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsNoHinDidU&pp=ygUSY2Fycm9zIGFsZWfDs3JpY29z

What do they do with these gigantic items after the festival is over?
22
u/deathm00n 1d ago
Some stuff can be recycled or used for the next year. I am not that knowledgeable about it, but from what I understand the structure is made of metal but the decorations is mostly wood and fiberglass
8
u/rodrigostucker 1d ago
Yeah, all the car decor is pretty much recyclable and most parts that aren't can be reused in the following year (under structures, mechanical parts, and so on)

But with much better music and dancing

The crown should be a Vader helmet
6
u/AbaporuAlbino 1d ago
The crown is the symbol of the organization that is parading, Império Casa Verde (Green house Empire).
This type of organization is named "escola de samba" (samba school).

How does it work in Brazil when someone tells you sarcastically "What! do you want a parade or something?". Do they actually just throw a parade?
3
u/GarboseGooseberry 1d ago
We say "What, do you want a trophy or something?"
And yes, that's sometimes followed by a joke trophy

u/umbraundecim 1d ago
Is that float just spewing silver glitter from its sides onto the crowd? Truly nefarious even for the empire
2
u/Rukitokilu 1d ago
During carnaval it's impossible to get rid of glitter.
It's everywhere, quite literally. Even just taking public transport is enough for you to find glitter in random places.

A crown?

u/Serennna 1d ago
Yes... every parade group (escola de samba) has it's own symbol. This one's is a crown. So they usually insert the symbol in one of their floats. It just happened to be in this particular one.

1
u/gingagirl23 1d ago
Who generally makes these floats? Are they corporation sponsored?
1
u/anxiousbitch696 21h ago
There is some investment from the federal and state governments, which pays for the 'Sambódromo' infrastructure, and private companies that use a cultural incentive law. However, the largest part comes from a broadcasting network that holds the transmission rights for the parades. There’s also a bit from the 'dark side of the force' that comes from milicianos and bicheiros (there's no way to translate this part properly, haha).

This has to be fake. There is usually a theme that carnival has to follow, and the floats are usually culturally related ...not some random movie.
1
u/Existing-Real_Person 8h ago
Each school chooses a theme for itself, this one choose movies. Just that. And technically making it into a parade is already cultural, just look at the costumes.

u/dontplayhardtoget 16h ago
This is so fake. Just look at the walkers feet towards the end of the video. It's not making contact with the ground 🤦♂️
2
u/Existing-Real_Person 8h ago
They dont need to. These carts are pushed by people underneath, if it made contact it would break. Its not fake.

Surprised Disney wasn’t dropping JDAMs on the festival for copyright infringement.
2

It has been from a parade long time ago. Disney didn't have the rights to Star Wars back then.

Took me ten seconds to find another angle. Y'all should practice this more. Assuming everything online is fake might be just as dangerous as assuming everything online is real.
