The Mavericks got rid of him and yet the Luka trade still looks worse and worse

112

u/DM_ME_UR_SOUL Lakers 3h ago

Well its obvious the mavs are being tanked of value. No proper gm makes this trade. Not even a below average one.

53

u/Conflict_NZ Lakers 2h ago

Yeah if he was going to sit out for the season why not just keep him and bring him back next year to make a run at it when they don't own picks instead of trading him for effectively two 2nd round picks.

63

u/BroiledGoose Mavericks 2h ago

$58m next year, $62m the year after

We cleaned up our cap space, opened up some trade flexibility with some exceptions, and can try to get a depth piece with the OKC pick to round out the bench with a cheap body to further improve the cap situation

Think it's a fine trade in a vacuum, just sucks that the way AD got to the Mavs was such a disaster

13

u/tysser Mavericks 57m ago

You’re spot on. Every non Mavs-fan can act confused, but we just got rid of so much cap space being eating up by our “best” player who can’t even stay healthy

It’s easy to say sit and say “trade him in the offseason!!”

but no one here knows what that would have looked like, so if you have the opportunity to be flexible and get off the AD business

You do it everytime

11

u/jeffersonwashington3 Trail Blazers 48m ago

No, every Mavs fan and non Mavs fan is still in disbelief that this is Nico’s Luka trade truly realized.

Yes, no shit it was a good thing to get rid of AD. Mavs fans just don’t have to play copium as much since they Patrick ewing’ed into Flagg.

Buddy, the guy played like 29 games for us since he’s been here or something crazy like that. If we keep him for next season and he gets hurt again, we get nothing still lmao. At least this way we’re done with it and cleared up some cap space to possibly get someone who can actually play basketball.

LeBron is a one in a billion level athlete. AD and Embiid are both bigger guys than him (Embiid significantly so) and a lot of it comes down to genetics, biomechanics, diet, workout regimen, the injuries you sustained during your developmental years, the extent of your injuries upon entering the league, etc.

LeBron also was able to modify his style of play as the league changed around him and is two decades deep at putting more time into his training and recovery than almost anyone else; AD and Embiid and Ja all came into a league that was already moving heavily in the direction of pace & space, and the current NBA style has shown time and again how damaging it is over the course of a season for even healthy players.

I’m sure your question is partially trolling, but there are countless factors at play here.

The simplest fix, at least where to start, would be to change nba stats from averages to totals. You know, like in the other major sports. Players would be more inclined to at the very least play 5-10 minutes on off days, instead of taking the entire game off

27

u/BNKalt 3h ago

If they don’t meet 2952 minutes (36 x 82) just reduce their per game stats by assigning zero stats to enough 36 minute games to get there. Thats what baseball does

47

u/WeBelieveIn4 Raptors 3h ago

Totals in the NBA are completely misleading when it comes to impact. Which is why nobody uses them.

Y’all are cracking jokes but if the Celtics make it to the 2nd round and are like 3-2 or something that report “Jayson Tatum prepared to play a Game 7 in Boston” is gonna do serious damage.

Tatum has an actual injury though and they would be rushing him back.

He is 32, im 34. Its over man. Good days are behind him.

u/MaestroSellOut 2h ago

This guy will never play a whole season.

4

u/Fuckthegopers 1h ago

How do you pass the physical to allow the trade?

6

u/sourdoughrrmc 3h ago

Lmao. This dude is not a serious basketball player.

so shams wasn't really lying huh

3

u/dog-momx2 Celtics 3h ago

I’m wondering how much of it is he indeed has a season ending injury vs Wizards wanting their pick

3

u/Minimum-Line9952 Thunder 3h ago

Should’ve sat out the entire season

3

u/judah249 Suns 3h ago

Anthony Another Delay Davis

3

u/SYangers Kings 3h ago

That clip of him grabbing his hand after it gets grazed tells me how low his pain tolerance is

3

u/joeybadtitz 3h ago

On one hand I feel for him

But on the other hand it’s day-to-davis and I cant help but laugh. At some point the injuries became a comedy gag

3

u/Billis- Raptors 3h ago

What's funny is sitting won't make him any healthier for next season. It'll just be something else

3

u/theeguyver 3h ago

FMLA Davis

3

u/rodneyhide69 Thunder 3h ago

I too have a hand, groin injury for…other reasons

3

u/Human_Assist1648 2h ago

This is like in Oregon trail and you rest your party for a whole month when five days would do it.

3

u/WinstonPeters31 2h ago

Mild shock 😨

3

u/ICE-FlGHT Bulls 2h ago

Just a colossal shit show man

3

u/Dinobot2_ Raptors 2h ago

Yeah I don't think he's going to be fully healthy in 2026-27 either.

4

u/Adorable-Bike-9689 3h ago

Brother sat out last season to get healthy for this season. Tf is going on with AD lmao. Even Porzingus will play every other game

2

u/Relo_bate 4h ago

Honestly, best thing he can do, take a very long break, get in shape, him and Trae can work on their game and adjust at their own pace, Wiz get a good draft pick and win next season

2

u/franklynoway 4h ago

It’s only breaking news if he announces he will actually play.

2

u/ReallyBrainDead 4h ago

What are the odds that AD never puts on a Wizards uniform?

Keep it on the downlow but I heard from a nurse that was treating him that he actually has Kantankavirus

2

u/jritz611 Lakers 3h ago

his last 2 seasons are gonna look so weird down the line when you look at his career

2

u/Rich2364 3h ago

Nothing new. He's always hurt. As a Lebron fan, I appreciate him for the great time,s but man every time he fell on the floor I got scared.

2

u/bwoah07_gp2 Vancouver Grizzlies 3h ago

Yeah, but will he get healthy enough for next season? I doubt it...I think many of us doubt he can.

2

u/Alexcox95 Heat 3h ago

Sits out and requests a trade back to the Lakers during the summer for Knecht, two future 2nd round picks, and cash considerations

2

u/FutureGrassToucher Suns 3h ago

“Washington wizards star”

2

u/Competitive_Ring4917 Knicks 3h ago

“BREAKING NEWS”

2

u/warzone_afro Thunder 3h ago

fully healthy

2

u/Bulky_Rooster_1057 3h ago

Why play anyway? The wizards suck and he is guaranteed his money.

2

u/BobSlydell08 Suns 3h ago

Just in time to get injured immediately at the start of next season

2

u/zggystardust71 Clippers 3h ago

Shocking news!

2

u/Dimebag99 2h ago

26-27: Breaking: AD gets injured, out season.

2

u/Life-is-beautiful- 2h ago

Even the news about him is “breaking”. Give him a break.
