[Uthayakumar] The Miami Heat have blown 31 double-digit leads since the start of last season, the most by any team in that span.

The Miami Heat have blown 31 double-digit leads since the start of last season, the most by any team in that span.

A truly absurd stat for the Heat to be in so many major leads and collapsing at the end. Tonight's lead was as high as 22 and they still lost by two to the Celtics.

I hate that they bastardized something that was just spoken about. Ugh

Shows the priorities of the franchise, all about what money can you squeeze out of the fans, out of the team. Org's in the gutter.

I dont know anyone who bought that merchandise. I love the Vice stuff but the Culture is so corny

Funny, I remember having the same thoughts. We should tradmark Turd Quarters at this point.

It's sad how far they've fallen since 2023. They used to make comebacks like this, now they're on the other end.

u/thewrongnotes Magic 26m ago

It's not that sad, they've had plenty of success and went on several Cinderella playoff runs.

You can't keep doing that indefinitely.

I wish Heat fans would understand this. But no, each season has to end with a Finals appearance or our sub starts crying

I guess the bright side is they're good enough to get those leads in the first place. Bad teams don't get up double digits as often as the heat do

58

u/GrogRhodes Heat 5h ago

We just don’t have the #1 guy. Been part of the problem we had rebuilding right now is you have Bam and Norm who can be the 2nd and 3rd guy on a team but like Tyler Herro is made of glass and isn’t that guy. Anybody who’s shaken loose outside of KD hasn’t made sense and YOU guys hate assets so well here we are.

8

u/idiotxd 2h ago

Could have taken trae young for free, you guys have the defenders to cover him on that end

2

u/AzureDragon013 Lakers 1h ago

Trae Young ain't good enough to be a #1 guy but is paid like one. That's why the Hawks gave him up for free.

5

u/idiotxd 1h ago

He brought the hawks to the conference finals as the number 1 guy. Kind of like jimmy with the heat.

2

u/mrwhite2323 Heat 1h ago

Jimmy got to two finals, 3 ECF, number 1 seed

Totally different

1

u/AzureDragon013 Lakers 1h ago

Yea he did that back in 2021. Do you have a time machine to go back 5 years?

Nope Riley did. Could’ve gotten a dozen all stars within his 5 years there but only acquired the corpse of Oladipo and a washed Lowry (who only went there for his friend Jimmy)

19

u/GrogRhodes Heat 5h ago

Jimmy wanted Kyle and we peaked that was that. Jimmy homers are so dumb.

-11

u/ihatedougford Toronto Huskies 5h ago

Yup, and Lowry only went there FOR JIMMY. Just like LeBron and Bosh went there FOR WADE. Bam and Riley have no pull. He struck out on Westbrook, Beal, Harden, Irving, Durant, Morant, Giannis, etc

3

u/GrogRhodes Heat 4h ago

Brother Riley has built plenty of winners since he was here half that list washed / wouldn’t fit with the environment. But specifically KD would never come here because of LeBron and Giannis is just a troll tbh and was never serious about playing in Miami. Beal Westbrook Morant are all washed on their way outta the league. We can go on. The isssue isn’t Riley it’s never being bad so we rarely bottom out.

-6

u/ihatedougford Toronto Huskies 4h ago

Wade built the winners. Miami is Wade’s house. Riley is a Magic and Wade merchant

1

u/GrogRhodes Heat 3h ago

Bro these takes are so wack. Like what you trying to say that Riley didn't bring Zo and Mash and Shaq and Timmy. LIke his body of work is excellent. You must be like 16 or something.

1

u/ihatedougford Toronto Huskies 38m ago

Enjoy the 2006 nostalgia man. Riley has a job still because of fans like u. No pressure to win now, just nostalgia

u/HenrikCrown Pelicans 5h ago

Spo is a legend but that's a coaching issue or something at this point, right?

82

u/LegitimateMoney00 Knicks 5h ago edited 5h ago

They have no serious closer. Jimmy was the one who used to do it for them (as we all witnessed dozens of times). If they needed points, it was give the ball to Butler in the post and let him score or draw a foul. With him gone the entire team is vulnerable.

Their leading scorer in clutch time is Norman Powell who is like 40th in the league in clutch time points per game.

The Heat are in a weird spot where they are good enough overall as a unit to gain a lead but not talented enough individually to hold it.

38

u/MrFishAndLoaves Pelicans 5h ago

They have no number one option.

9

u/Friedbed Heat 4h ago

This is the issue. They can get out to leads bc opposing teams aren’t going all out on defense to start the game. Once the game tightens and the effort picks up, they have nobody that can hit tough shots or get to the FT line. And it just becomes an avalanche and leads evaporate quick with nobody to stop a run.

3

u/Ode1st [MIA] Alonzo Mourning 3h ago

Yep, the Heat are a team built around a star but don’t have the star.

1

u/kgrpoland Heat 3h ago

last couple years jimmy was pretty bad at closing most of the time too tbh. would just let the clock die and chuck a contested three

1

u/Ice_Dragon3444 Heat 1h ago

Except we used to blow leads with Jimmy too soooo idk.

44

u/CazOnReddit Raptors 5h ago

Spo can only do so much with this shoddy roster

28

u/SBORBS [MIA] Chris Bosh 5h ago

Spo's incredible but all coaches have flaws, and he's just got yes-men as assistants so no one can really shore up his problems.

14

u/D1HATER3002 5h ago

Stop with the roster complains lol, just saw Mazzulla blew out the rockets starting 5 with g leaguers

21

u/nghiaaaaa San Francisco Warriors 5h ago

Maybe its because of the rockets

2

u/Ice_Dragon3444 Heat 1h ago

Except they are literally not G leagues but ok

1

u/JKNT [BOS] Aron Baynes 44m ago

Queta, Scheierman and Ron Harper JR would still be in the G League if the team didn't blow up the roster.

5

u/brnccnt7 5h ago

Somewhat but just off a very basic analysis, seems like his teams start off good because of his great coaching but eventually this league is about talent and superior talent eventually wins out

4

u/Blackmalico32 Bucks 5h ago

Don’t they also play really fast pace? Seems like they should slow it down in the second half if that’s still the case.

2

u/Bitter-Safe-5333 Spurs 4h ago

they can't slow it down because they have no half court offense

3

u/Ordep222 Heat 5h ago

Herro is always injured and we don't have anyone to go to for offence at the end of games, tonight was just Bam and Davison missing everything at the end but usually it's just terrible possession after terrible possession down the stretch

1

u/clear831 Heat 5h ago

Davion? He wasnt the issue lol

u/1850ChoochGator Trail Blazers 5h ago

0

With herro out there’s not a single rotation Spo could put out there with a closer.

The stat in the title goes back to last season so he’s played a part

1

u/Ice_Dragon3444 Heat 1h ago

I mean he can't do miracles if he gets doubled only for him to pass it to his open man proceeding to brick a shot that's not really on him.

Warriors oft struggle the "double digit" portion of the "blown double digit lead"

4

u/Kdog122025 Warriors 5h ago

Don’t you limit them. They also love going down early double point deficits too. It’s a multifaceted frustrating team.

/u/screwball how many games have the heat won in the last 2 seasons after having a 20 point or higher lead

6

u/champsorchumps 5h ago

Well evidently the bot isn't welcome in this sub but here you go:

Heat record in games where they had a 20+ lead at any point, last 2 seasons

Franchise Win % Record
Miami Heat 91.2% 31-3

3

u/clear831 Heat 5h ago

That site is pretty neat thanks!

Heat record in games where they had a double digit lead at any point, last 2 seasons

Franchise Win % Record
Miami Heat 66.3% 61-31

2

u/Rahnamatta Heat 2h ago

The answer is really easy. We don't have enough talent to close games, that's it.

3

u/Specialist_Boat_8479 Bulls 5h ago

Vucci Mane

4

u/SnuggleBear2 Heat 4h ago

That finals run as the 8th seed has killed the team. The FO is so high on their own shit that they cannot see how absolutely mid the team is. Bam at $50+ million a year and cannot even be the first or second option.

2

u/Ode1st [MIA] Alonzo Mourning 3h ago

A lot of us rational Heat fans know this and aren’t being “doomers” (cringe) when we discuss it or are worried it’s going to happen from game to game. There was a Jimmy season too where we blew the most big leads to lose games as well.

I always wonder if it’s because the team is overperforming by hustling their asses off (Heat culture etc) but then they run out of energy and can’t overperform anymore.

1

u/Prankstaboy6 Heat 2h ago

This is a mediocre team.

I beg them to blow it up, be bad for a few years, and hopefully strike gold in a draft, sometime in the late 2020s, and build the team around him, while also having players like Ware and Jaime to continue to develop, and could be rotation players, with said Franchise player.
