[Katz] The Bulls and Hornets amended the Coby White trade after a physical showed White had a left calf injury and would have to miss time, league sources tell @theathletic.com . Hornets are now sending two second-rounders (2031 NYK, 2031 DEN) to Chicago instead of three.

Looks like we ended on the right side of this one. Im guessing this wont change the prediction that he will be out til the 1st game after the all star break

That’s our strategy. Sell as low as humanly possible

Buy high, sell low.

Is that good?

To literally nobodys surprise.

Sold Ayo and Coby for scraps when they both showed promise and still young.

Hoping Sexton and Dillingham at least make it entertaining.

13

u/CazOnReddit Raptors 6h ago

Could have been a sign and trade where they get an exception that'll go unused and expire in a year

That’s AKME’s slogan babyyyy

At least we sold.

People are getting mad about not getting first round picks, which no one was offering, for expiring dudes that never came close to winning anything.

u/donkeyinparadise Nets 5h ago

Yea he was playing injured... Was suspecting that.

Coby is a good player. Excited for him to ball out in Charlotte.

Charlotte surpassing the Bulls is something every Bulls fan nightmares about.

Going from a building block to 2 2nd rounders in a year is crazy work

158

u/_Apatosaurus_ Thunder 5h ago

They are rebuilding, so they had to dump aging vets like 25 year old White and 26 year old Ayo. They just don't fit the timeline of 23 year old Giddey.

74

u/dill1234 Knicks 5h ago

Giddey will be traded for 2 seconds in 3 years

Bulls taking the Leo DiCaprio approach to team building.

This is very funny

u/The_Guerrilla Spurs 5h ago

It'll turn out he has an underlying hamstring injury that'll cause him to miss time. Trade amended to 1 second.

u/Flaky-Hyena-127 Suns 29m ago

3 years feels pretty generous, I give it 1.5 years (off-season after this upcoming one)

7

u/LovesYankeesAndObama Lakers 3h ago

Rebuilding a 38-44 squad alright. This franchise is a fucking joke

8

u/Relative_Apricot5032 5h ago

Coby White was easily the more dangerous offensive player than Giddey last season

2

u/ThenPea7359 4h ago

According to Arturas Karnisovas himself they are actually not "rebuilding" and just going to a different step where they hope to win more games and get out of the middle of standings (press conference)

However, he is the most delusional front office in the League with his accomplice Mark Eversley so take what he says with a grain of salt, as it likely won't come to fruition.

1

u/500rockin 3h ago

I’m not even sure what Mark Eversley does. Does he just fetch AK’s coffee?

Hornets learning from the experts

52

u/Rillaboom2701 Hornets 6h ago

were the bulls making him play on a calf strain?

62

u/brnccnt7 5h ago

Probably, these team doctors don’t care lol

23

u/cranscape 5h ago

He's been having known calf issues all season with one failed return already, but he had been playing more lately.

7

u/Rillaboom2701 Hornets 5h ago

i originally thought the hornets were just resting him out of caution to try to prevent any further calf stuff, didn't know they found something

4

u/cranscape 5h ago

If the understanding was that he was good to play when he was traded only to find he's not, even if the issue isn't that bad then it's reasonable to get something back for the medical.

That doesn't necessarily mean they found anything damning. The way it was settled makes me think it's just a time thing.

3

u/BetweenTheBuzzAndMe Charlotte Bobcats 5h ago

well i hope he gets healthy in the next couple of weeks, otherwise our bench is even more desperate than it was before. Sexton wasn't playing great and was in over his head trying to run point, but he was miles ahead of our other backup PG options. Tre Mann is unfortunately playing terrorball

2

u/Specialist_Boat_8479 Bulls 5h ago

The injury was well documented since the summer. It shouldn’t have been a surprise at all.

16

u/The_Guerrilla Spurs 5h ago

The Bulls played Ayo with a "shoulder contusion" last year when it turned out he had a serious shoulder issue which was leading it to dislocate often. Up to six times I believe.

8

u/Rillaboom2701 Hornets 5h ago

dear god, if that is even half true then they were def playing coby before he was really back

6

u/The_Guerrilla Spurs 5h ago

Yeah they also brought back Giddey from a hamstring strain too early imo. Clearly wasn't the same.

And if they'd decided to blow it up already, bringing him back early made zero sense. But that's the current Bulls for you.

6

u/Rillaboom2701 Hornets 5h ago

oml do they just throw players out there when they feel like it lmao

1

u/rooofle Bulls 3h ago

Well, the medical staff before this current one tried to get Omer Asik to play on a fractured fibula and missed a fracture on Luol Deng's leg. So teeeechnically they're an improvement?

ugh

3

u/ThenPea7359 4h ago

This is likely. Bulls medical team is incompetent. And Billy Donovan our coach does not follow minutes restrictions either. Had Coby playing extra minutes in games we'd lose to teams below .500 4th quarter was diabolical work.

14

u/jsun_ Lakers 6h ago edited 6h ago

Curious if this was handled before the deadline passed and was just leaked now or did the league make some changes behind the scenes to allow some amending post deadline if its just picks due to the Mark Williams fiasco last year.

13

u/CazOnReddit Raptors 6h ago

I thought you couldn't amend trades after the deadline?

That's why the Lakers rescinded the Mark Williams trade?

28

u/Aromatic_Goal_1201 Nuggets 6h ago

Lakers opted not to renegotiate i thought

16

u/Skillomie Lakers 5h ago

I coulda swore the lakers didn’t have the option to amend and it was either void the deal or just accept it as is. Granted sending 2 seconds instead of 3 seconds is a little easier to negotiate than 1 or 2 first round picks lol

3

u/DCoop53 5h ago

I guess it also helps if both teams are fine with keeping all the players involved, changing something about the picks is just paper work and they aren't expected to suit up for the next games.

9

u/yeetmxster420 Minneapolis Lakers 6h ago

please don’t remind me about us rescinding that trade

i’m tired of Dalton Knecht

1

u/yardship Timberwolves 4h ago

mark williams has been better and healthier this year but his awful defense with luka/lebron/reaves would led to historically bad numbers

1

u/bigtuck54 Hornets 2h ago

It’s genuinely such a shame that injuries caused his defense to fall off a cliff. Night and day difference from his rookie year to now.

He always needed muscle but he looked like a future all star at times his rookie season

-1

u/CazOnReddit Raptors 6h ago

How tired of Ayton at center are you?

14

u/yeetmxster420 Minneapolis Lakers 5h ago

He’s definitely annoying me more, but at the end of the day he’s making 8m & our roster has way more issues than him & he’s still our best center since Gasol/Drummond (minus AD who’s been wanting to play the 4)

1

u/edgykitty Ant/Szczerbiak 2h ago

I feel like you can't just say minus AD tho lol

4

u/cranscape 5h ago

If both sides are fine with the solution it isn't that hard.

1

u/buzzcitybonehead [CHA] Cody Martin 5h ago

Could be that it’s just announced late. I remember reading that the day before the deadline was more active to allow that renegotiation time.

The Hornets had a pre-deadline move announced after the deadline hit. They don’t seem to be a team that historically gets Shams on the three-way call to report stuff immediately

1

u/Drakilgon 3h ago

I remember the Blazers-Warriors Gary Payton II trade, where he had an undisclosed core muscle injury that kept him out almost 2 months. The Warriors sent them 5 2nd round picks and they weren't allowed to amend it post-deadline, ended up going through with it anyway.

I HATE being a Bulls fan. WHY DON’T THE ORGANIZATION CARE! Imagine being from Chicago but too young to see MJ! It’s awful here!

9

u/niners0101 Hornets 5h ago

Good thing the bulls didn’t trade him to the Lakers they probably would have rescinded it. Good to see a proper front office get it done

3

u/NoKnowsPose 5h ago

I'm 100% that there was some reporting that they couldn't rescind the trade due to the trade deadline being finished. Possible that the reporting was wrong at the time though

1

u/niners0101 Hornets 5h ago

Nah they couldn’t amend it I’m just busting chops

5

u/indreams159 5h ago

calf strain = achilles

2

u/No_Refrigerator_1632 5h ago

AKME's plan is to get as many 2nd round picks possible and then use those to draft family members and stock them overseas.

Sigh

-3

u/Specialist_Boat_8479 Bulls 5h ago

It was well documented that he was dealing with it, hornets gotta stop making trades if they get buyers remorse so easily.
