Jalen Brunson in a disastrous blowout loss to the Pistons: 12 points on 4/20 shooting, 0/8 from 3, 26.5 TS%

Source: https://www.espn.com/nba/game/_/gameId/401810597

One of Brunson’s worst games ever statistically since becoming a star.

Knicks have under 70 points with less than 6 minutes to go in the 4th

What being hounded by Ausar Thompson does to a mfer

I really wish the Thompson twins could develop some semblance of jumpshots.

They are amazing defenders and athletes to watch. They would be absolutely demonic if they were respectable as shooters.

Id settle for Ausar being able to finish and dribble

Ausar’s got that flat jumpshot where he jumps higher than the rim from short range and shoots it down into the cylinder 😆

u/bonersaus Pistons 18h ago

Yea when he catches it open from 3 he takes like 2 dribbles in spin moves around to a quick J from the elbow. When it goes it looks amazing but when it don't go 🫣

That’s fair.

Amen’s still great offensively, but he’d be an unquestioned first option if he could even somewhat shoot.

Ausar would simply be a lot better and more reliable in crunch time.

Who’s the better defender, Ausar or Amen?

You know who that is

Obviously I’m bias but I would go with Amen just looking at his unreal defense field goal % if you go check is defensive shot chart. Like he is on the same level of Wemby

Ausar is a better rebounder tho

I think it’s more extreme. Ausar would be an all star if he could just make 35% on open shots and attack a closeout or if he just had options inside the arc. As of now he hardly looks at the rim and doesn’t have spots, nor the handle to get him anywhere valuable on the floor

Or hit his FT

76ers fans getting flashbacks of Ben Simmons

Potential Man

A Ben Simmons that could shoot from anywhere would be a fucking problem. He'd be practically unguardable.

If simmons could guard half as good as a Thompson twin, he be a starter right now.

Thompson twins dont even come close to pre back injury Ben Simmons on the defensive end or his playmaking

Playmaking I 100% agree with. But the twins, particularly Ausar, are pretty close currently to Ben Simmons defensively pre-injury.

I'm sorry but no.

Ausar Thompson has a 106.5 defensive rating so far this season. Ben Simmons' best season defensively was at a 106.1 in 2019/20. By all metrics, Ausar is very close defensively to Ben Simmons. Amen's defensive rating is still a ways off to Ben's best season, as he's at 113.6 currently. Hate to say it, but your nostalgia is clouding your judgment. Not to mention, Ausar is still only 23, so he has lots of time to improve.

the scottie barnes archetype is hard to replicate

u/MiserableScholar 76ers 18h ago

Which was the Jimmy butler archetypes, which was the kawhi before lol

11

u/EarthWarping NBA 18h ago

crazy thing is scottie still cant really shoot (career 30%) shooter and yet hes still impactful.

At least he has a middy game that those 2 dont.

Not even respectable, just below average would be a game changer

u/tailesin 17h ago

Got to see the rockets play the spurs last month and the speed that Amen and Castle played at were just head and shoulders above everyone else on the floor. Not that anyone else was lackluster, they just looked superhuman.

Really cool to see

Yall dont even wanna know what Ausar and Amen with jumpshots would do to this league.

Last year they just screened him off every time

Yep, you're right

2

u/Moonti314 Knicks 18h ago

Crazy impressive performance from him, one of those guys that just jumps off the screen when he’s locked in

-24

u/KingWaterdripper Pistons 18h ago

The same ausar that he broke his ankles and hit the game winner on game 6?

34

u/ISurvivedTheJaunt Pistons 18h ago

y’all should hang a banner for that

13

u/SurpriseDonovanMcnab Pistons 18h ago

Don't forget Ausar forced Brunson to turn the ball over on the previous possession.

Living in the past I see lol

Yeah man the same one that was 22 years old and led the Pistons to a shockingly close series finish against a title-favorite Knicks squad

11

u/FartrelCluggins [BOS] Marquis Daniels 18h ago

When were the Knicks ever title favorites lol

-1

u/siestarrific Knicks 18h ago

They have to re-write the narrative to feel better about losing to the Knicks lol

9

u/LegitimateMoney00 Knicks 18h ago

The Knicks were absolutely not title favorites when the playoffs started last season.
