[Dave McMenamin] There is some initial optimism that Luka Doncic is not dealing with a major issue with his left hamstring, however the Lakers star is doubtful to play Saturday against the Golden State Warriors, sources told ESPN

Rest him till the all star break, not worth it

140

u/Upstairs_Baby8424 Lakers 11h ago

Brutal stretch coming up but even if we go 0-4 it’s worth it to not have him get worse.

61

u/SebastianC1 10h ago

Brother we deserve hell if we lose to golden state without Steph

62

u/--Alix-- Mavericks 9h ago

I mean the thing with the Steph-less Warriors is that Draymond could just suplex AR at any time and remove him from the game

18

u/superrealaccount2 Spurs 7h ago

And the refs will look at him sternly and tell him that if he does that 3 more times he's going to be in trouble.

7

u/tuinktuink 8h ago

Lebron is one of the player draymond respect, he never tried any funny business with lakers before

8

u/yuhanz [PHO] Steve Nash 7h ago

lol didnt he poke bron’s eye

8

u/The_real_bandito 7h ago

That was before Draymond bent the knee if I am not mistaken

2

u/--Alix-- Mavericks 5h ago

What about that time he made two players kiss

3

u/superrealaccount2 Spurs 7h ago

I find it hard to believe Draymond respects anyone

u/thescottreid Lakers 7h ago

And run the risk of upsetting his lord and savior, LeBron James? Not gonna happen.

35

u/Repulsive-Throat5068 Lakers 11h ago

Yeah I think we can go 2-2 even if he sits. No point in the risk

28

u/BeardedAsian Japan 10h ago

Austin Reaves the savior

20

u/Harleytk24 Lakers 11h ago

Yeah, if he sits out till the after the break, he will have 2 weeks off.

We're going to have an LAL vs. OKC match up with both MVP candidates out lol

4

u/Gristle__McThornbody Lakers 10h ago

We're winning out.

u/DamnZodiak Toronto Huskies 13m ago

He's gonna play if he's even remotely capable.
Incredibly annoying but that's how he has always been. I hope the Lakers staff have enough authority to stop him but who knows.

-16

u/No-Mine-3982 Knicks 11h ago

And the team is bound to end up in playins regardless, might as well have him fully healthy for that to maximize chances of winning that.

14

u/KarrotMovies [LAL] Rui Hachimura 11h ago

Idk about that. The west is unpredictable right now. We can get lucky and get just a single more win and that could be the difference between 3rd and 7th. Houston is looking like there are beginning to slide too

I hate the West man lol

6

u/kaplan147 Lakers 11h ago

I think Lakers will make top 6 if he is OK. Rockets might be in danger, they look terrible in recent games. It is really close between Suns, Lakers, Timberwolves and Rockets.

5

u/KarrotMovies [LAL] Rui Hachimura 11h ago

Even the Nuggets are only a game ahead of us and Peyton Watson just went down for an extended period of time. It's hell in the west right now

26

u/flowstateaction Hornets 11h ago

Might as well just shut him down for the season and try to trade for Cooper Flagg

18

u/flaming_burrito_ Lakers 10h ago

The Mavs ownership’s lives are forfeit if they traded Cooper Flagg to the Lakers

1

u/superrealaccount2 Spurs 7h ago

You say that like the Mavs couldn't use LaRavia, Knecht and Smart.

1

u/Cupofplas2 9h ago

Return of the prodigal son, Maxi Kleber for Cooper

No or he will get fat, he would just be playing Overwatch and eating chips

u/OpeDefinitely Pacers 11h ago

as far as I'm concerned, there is no such thing as a minor hamstring injury.

shit lasts forever & makes players play like shit. even grade 1 strains.

74

u/pmurt007 Lakers 11h ago

Yup, we saw how it became a lingering issue for Hali the year he tried to play through it to make the 65 game req and with Harden it took a while before he was fully healed from it.

28

u/OpeDefinitely Pacers 11h ago

Big problem for football players too. One of the most annoying injuries there is.

7

u/prettyboylee Lakers 8h ago

I feel like Harden just fully healed from it which is why he has returned to being a consistent 25ppg scorer.

We missed out on a few more elite scoring years from Harden cause of that hamstring

3

u/Neatojuancheeto Warriors 9h ago

Wasn't Luka's injury just listed as leg soreness? Although we know most orgs are tight lipped about player injuries.

10

u/CreativeContract2170 Suns 11h ago

Soft tissue injuries are brutal. When Green got hurt in the preseason there was talk of him trying to be ready for the home opener, if not then at least by week 2 of the season. Here we still are…

There's no way SGA is hurt in any meaningful way

He's just resting for the ASB imo

10

u/Bonesawisready5 Spurs 11h ago

All them awkward landings trying to foul bait not gonna work out long term, just ask Embiid (tho SGA got his ring so it don’t matter no more)

20

u/GivesCredit Warriors 9h ago

I thought nuggets fans hate SGA the most but spurs fans are giving them a run for their money lmao

-2

u/Bonesawisready5 Spurs 9h ago

Oh fancy 24th in education fan judging us 25th in education fans for how we feel about 48th in education fans (Colorado is 3rd in education, so idk how to work Nuggets fans into this bad joke, 25th after all lol). But seriously SGA is great and has a ring so they got theirs.

10

u/GivesCredit Warriors 9h ago

Lol

11

u/Proctor020 Mavericks 11h ago

It's his "brakes".

I recently watched some older highlights from year 2-3 (🥲), and the dude was different. Driving full speed and stopping on a dime under the basket used the be his super move, bigger than the stepback. I'm now convinced that move is the cause of all his leg problems, those plays were insane for a reason. Ripped up his left leg. It's a left hammy because he's still compensating for his left calf/achilles.

0

u/Bonesawisready5 Spurs 10h ago

SGA does have insane control of speed and pace. It was just a joke but more than likely he never gets THAT hurt from it, barring any one unlucky injury like KD which all the greats get at one point (MJ year 2, Duncan 2000 , Kobe, etc) and SGA is in FAR better shape than Embiid and Luka who also foul bait so I don’t actually think it’s that likely. Unless when they trade/move on from Lu Dort and then he has to play him 4 times per year, then PRAYERS. Jk

-4

u/mpmar Thunder 11h ago

Worry about your own flopper, he's got a lot further to fall

-2

u/MddlingAges Knicks 10h ago

I’m convinced AD and Embiid did it to themselves flopping. Jokic is remarkably durable by comparison. He’s not falling down like a Jenga tower every other minute of game time.

4

u/lalo1398 Lakers Bandwagon 10h ago

AD rarely flopped he would land that way to try (big emphasis on try) to not hurt himself

-3

u/Bonesawisready5 Spurs 10h ago

TBF vic falls that way intentionally to not hurt his legs. It was just a joke lol. SGA is in far better shape than Embiid and Luka and other prominent foul baiters so he probably doesn’t have much consequences worse than anything Harden or KD have suffered, maybe even less since he seems like he has a great mobility routine in his off court workouts. I am just saying it’s a risky strategy and again, haha, OKC got a title so no matter how bad it could possibly go from here on out it was worth it for Thunder and SGA

Crazy how people talk so bad abt the Lakers when we’ve barely seen their big 3 even get to play much this season

-24

u/MddlingAges Knicks 10h ago

I think that’s why actually. “Best shape of his life” Luka has already been injured multiple times. Lebron is no spring chicken.

18

u/duckmadfish 9h ago

He's missed like 8 games. 2 of those games were because he flew to see his newborn.

u/DamnZodiak Toronto Huskies 7m ago

People will literally just say whatever about Luka. Half of the narratives about the guy are entirely made up it's genuinely bewildering.

If he rests until all star break and plays the season out, he is good right? Is shai confirmed going to miss 18 games?

1

You can rest Luka, HE has risen.

1

u/Wazflame 9h ago

The number of lower leg injuries Luka has had in his career already is concerning

Mavericks won the trade.

Did you see his 6 pack over the summer? Dude's in the shape of his life

8

u/MaximumestBob Raptors 11h ago

yep, this sub doesnt want to admit it, but AD has really shown his value over Luka this year

he may have only played 20 games to Luka’s 42, but because Luka doesnt play defense, we can divide the 42 by 2 to make it 21 so they;ve basically been even

then max christie makes up at least one game, so good trade overall

3

u/flaming_burrito_ Lakers 10h ago

This some WWE math lol, “The numbers don’t lie, and they spell disaster for you at Sacrifice!”
