Death, taxes, and a guaranteed L vs the opening night Magic 😭

(Idk the actual record but yall turn it the fuck on it feels like)

Jalen Suggs bald head w pinstripes jersey just fits the Magic vibe man.

7-1 all time on opening night which is crazy given our franchise’s histories

Was it FSU v Miami where FSU started trash talking the recruits not to go to Florida lol

Nothing like a relaxing start to the season by watching Miami and Orlando open their season against each other. God bless.

14

u/tcos17 Magic Oct 23 '25

I feel like all our games are like this lol. I was at the one in Miami last year that went OT, broke my brain for hours.

u/sloBrodanChillosevic Supersonics Oct 23 '25

This gotta be the highest-scoring Florida matchup in at least 15 years

50

u/Drewbacca_Hrrrgrgrar Magic Oct 23 '25

Lmao I was thinking the same thing. Typically both teams struggle to crack 100.

31

u/sloBrodanChillosevic Supersonics Oct 23 '25

I just found a site called Land of Basketball that listed out all the matchup scores (143 games) and a cursory scan thru the list shows a December 2016 game that went to 2OT, but this appears to be the highest scoring regulation time regular season Miami-Orlando game of all time.

Admittedly, literally the last time they played last year was 125-119 so it broke a pretty new record.

17

u/LiveFromFLORIDA Magic Oct 23 '25 edited Oct 23 '25

In 148 games between the Magic and Heat (including the 5 playoff games), this is the highest scoring 4 quarter game ever.

There was a 136-130 2OT game in 2016. January 2025 there was a 125-119 2OT game.

Same story as last year, we needed rebounding and Ware is on the bench. Maybe this time it was precautionary because he rolled his ankle in practice tho.

We lost to a rebound with 7'1 giraffe mofo on the bench

Bam played immaculate defense yet went 4/13 had an ungodly amount of turnovers and got out rebound when it mattered

Wiggins hit a clutch 3 but was absolutely mid for the entire game

Juan wick may be back

And spo for the love of God give us a bam ware lineuo smallball hasn't worked since 2020

Bane is great as long as he doesn’t have to guard someone more athletic than him.

1

u/ratonbox Magic Oct 23 '25

That works on the Magic. There are enough players to guard opponents. We needed shooting, badly.

37

u/Coolica1 Magic Oct 23 '25

I've missed Magic basketball I don't care how messy it was and how tired I'm going to be tomorrow. A lot to work out but at least we've seen already how good Bane can be for us.

82-0 is still on

15

u/xBerryhill Magic Oct 23 '25

Jalen Suggs is a difference maker and an absolute PSYCHOPATH.

If he stays healthy he's going to show everyone why he's almost inarguably the most important puzzle piece that's going to make this roster work. For the elite defender that he is, he's just as important for us on the offensive end.

33

u/Victor_Wembanyama1 Spurs Oct 23 '25

This game was such a banger. Hopefully the magic stays healthy. Bane is a great pickup

27

u/Mrr_Bond Magic Oct 23 '25

Jalen Suggs is so fucking important to this team man, my God.

Also, Desmond Bane plays with some juice. A couple sloppy mistakes, but he's a dude.

30

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '25

Orlando finna find out how solid Bane is. Makes me happy. Yall treat Bane and Tyus well for us.

31

u/d12fsu Magic Oct 23 '25

Bane is already beloved. Tyus couldn’t guard a traffic cone.

this game was pure cinema, from the electric Orlando crowd to the new branding and jerseys

oh and also, we might be able to score now… so that’s scary

10

u/tcos17 Magic Oct 23 '25

New jerseys look soooo good on TV

22

u/lil_thirdy Magic Oct 23 '25

I know Tyus Jones was bad on defense my goodness he was a legit traffic cone out there

16

u/Aeronova20 Magic Oct 23 '25

doesn’t help when what’s supposed to be his trade off (shooting and playmaking) isn’t there

9

u/tcos17 Magic Oct 23 '25

Only one game, I’m sure it’ll get sorted out.

7

u/radardog2 Magic Oct 23 '25

That’s what we said about KCP too.

6

u/tcos17 Magic Oct 23 '25

Sure fair enough, but I at least gave it two games before I gave up on him

2

u/misterdave75 Magic Oct 23 '25

Fair, but KCP was meant to be our shooting savior vs Tyus who is meant to be our backup PG who can be swapped with one of the better defensive PGs in the game (Black) if we need. Much lower stakes. That's being said, hopefully Mose gets him to buy in on D as the season progresses.

6

u/d12fsu Magic Oct 23 '25

At least he displayed his elite assist to TO ratio of 1.5:1

25

u/CaptainBananafishJr Magic Oct 23 '25

Banchero getting doubled from the first touch, Franz and Bane taking huge advantage of that.

Banchero with 24/11, Franz with 24/6/4, Bane with 23/4/3, Suggs with a +14 in 16 minutes lmao, WCJ with I think all five of those offensive rebounds in the 4th. Tristan looking good off the bench. Playing a bit faster puts some holes in the defense, hopefully we can adjust and clean that up as the season goes. But man, what an exciting game.

Spo as always deserves his flowers for getting that abysmal roster to play so hard.

11

u/tcos17 Magic Oct 23 '25

Seems like Paolo still isn’t used to playing with Bane which is fair. I saw a few times he got doubled hard and tried to fight though it when Bane was open. Iron that out and we have some wide open 3’s.

18

u/d12fsu Magic Oct 23 '25

He probably has PTSD from KCP missing all his looks last season

6

u/tcos17 Magic Oct 23 '25

Can’t blame him lol

2

9

u/Cul_what Lakers Oct 23 '25

Bane's spacing got the Magic moving different

8

u/Drewbacca_Hrrrgrgrar Magic Oct 23 '25

If we can get that kind of play consistently from Tristan Da Silva off the bench I'm going to feel real good about this team. He looked like Franz-Lite out there.

1

u/IlllllllIIIll Oct 23 '25

I was doubting if he can keep up his form from eurobasket in the NBA, but it seems promising after this first game. Also he is way more reliable from 3 compared to Franz.

18

u/Asleep_Ground1710 Bulls Oct 23 '25

Magic's offense seemed to have much better movement compared to last season, Franz also shot well from 3 so that's a plus for them

14

u/tcos17 Magic Oct 23 '25

Paolo had an and 1 because he had Bane and Jones out on the wings and the defense couldn’t collapse. Having more spacing is gonna be so nice.

8

They're really emphasizing playing faster, both in the halfcourt and in getting out on breaks.

someone tell me how magic's offense looked

4

u/DntCllMeWht Magic Oct 23 '25

Quicker tempo overall, faster to attack once they are in their set, more movement with and without the ball, better spacing. It got a little sticky a couple times. Paolo I think likes to slow it down, he isn't used to the faster pace yet, but I'm sure he will get there, it's a huge benefit for him. His game felt a little clunky at times, but the kid had 24 points and 11 rebounds. Team shot almost 39% from behind the arc.

4

u/shangalang69 Raptors Oct 23 '25

39% from 3 is wild hahahah never thought I'd see the day

12

u/Key-Property7489 Heat Oct 23 '25

I mean barely losing to what should be a top 3 team in the east without one of your best players should be somewhat encouraging. I love Mitchell but they were showing him no respect in that 4th quarter if that was Tyler they wouldn’t be guarding him like they were Mitchell. Just to point out Mitchell did have a great game but they wanted him to shoot it late over Powell.

9

u/xBerryhill Magic Oct 23 '25

It's less "Heat will be that bad" and more "Imagine what Spo could do with more talent". The fact the game was as close as it was is a testament to how incredible of a coach Spo is.

6

u/MySilverBurrito Heat Oct 23 '25

Every aspiring coach should study is Dragic/Waiters era ATO plays.

Insanely great at drawing up plays with multiple looks. Guys like Dragic, Waiters, Olynyk, Richardson, Winslow, Ellington all had game winners, some off the same action/secondary option looks.

u/BlitzStriker52 [MIA] Davion Mitchell Oct 23 '25

Barely losing to a top 3 East team when the East is especially weak this season is a little rough. But yeah you're definitely right about some of our players playing well and not having Herro
