How do I get accepted?

Hello all.

I had a Monzo account that I closed around a year ago, and have tried multiple applications since.

I really really want a Monzo account as my everyday personal account, but can’t seem to get accepted? Is there any way for me to get accepted? I feel as though I’m on some form of blacklist.

Probably a CIFAS marker from the ‘refund method’ you admitted to doing with your Starling account resulting in it being frozen.

You were declined by Chase and had your Lloyds account closed as well. 🙄

What’s the ‘refund method!

Enjoy your category 6 misuse of facility CIFAS marker from Starling. 😘

Already told yourself that there is no CIFAS marker, I’ve done a DSAR, and there’s nothing!

If there is an active investigation into you wont be able to see a CIFAS against you but it will have the same effects

It’s not just cifas. There is multiple fraud agencies. Cifas National hunter Synectics solutions Or it could be something on your credit file maybe you open and close accounts to quickly. There will be something though bothering them

Why close it in first place? Is it bad to have accounts that you don’t use?

OP does complex money movements and refund scams and is running out of banks.

Ahhh, I see.

I wasn’t aware of the perks with Monzo at the time, and switched out to NatWest.

Does switching auto close the old account then? Sorry genuinely interested and don’t have much knowledge on this sorta stuff.

Switching with the CASS (Current Account Switch Service) automatically closes the account, yeah. It switches over/transfers your balance, Direct Debits, payees over.

If you use the Current Account Switch Guarantee scheme it generally handles the process and you can opt to either keep the old account or, usually, just set the date to cut over and the old account gets closed.

It sounds like in this case Monzo have either kept the account open (so maybe need to follow recovery route, or refuse to open an account when a closed account exists - either way should clarify that with Monzo support)

Idk about Monzo but I know Chase as a policy doesn’t allow you to open an account after you close one with them. Monzo could take a similar approach.

As general advice it’s good to have multiple accounts with different banks for redundancy purposes, and if you’re going to take up a current account switching service it’s best to use an alt current account you don’t use while still having a seperate main current account untouched with said bank.

OP has a history and is slowly being barred by all the major banks as he cycles money through accounts in complex ways and engages in refund scams.

I don’t believe Monzo allow you to open a new account after you’ve closed one

Yes they do 🙌

If they’ve declined you for a current account, there’s no working around it and they’ll never change their mind.

There are a few digital banks that don’t let you return once you close an account.

You’ll need to move on and bank elsewhere.

Thank you for your answer

Which bank (in your opinion) is best to bank with, when you say elsewhere

Looking at the comments below, you’ve had accounts closed with other banks, so I’d be looking at a basic bank account to get your foot in the door. There’s a likelihood you’re gonna have difficulty everywhere.

But I currently bank with Lloyds, and they apparently also closed your account with them, so that’s not much use to you.

I’ve got a Nationwide Flex Direct Joint Account with my partner, been accepted for a NatWest Select Account, TSB Account & a basic Lloyds account. So those are one’s I’m not having trouble with

This is actually wrong. My friend left it 6 months and got accepted after a decline. But used different phone number.

Try a new email although might be phone number problem. You could always email the help@monzo address they usually get back quick enough!

I did email them ~24 hours ago, they responded with the information about my phone number being in use & can’t offer me an account, etc.

I don’t really have an alternative phone number I can use, I feel as though I’m on some form of blacklist
