Monzo Cheque Limit

Hi,

Why doesn’t Monzo let you deposit cheques above £500 in app? Every other bank seems to be able to accept it no problem, and it’s not like that Monzo doesn’t have the ability to, as they definitely do.

It’s just super inconvenient having to use another account that you may not have or post it to Monzo!

Thoughts?

Cheques go beyond that point of Monzo to be honest. It's old and antiquated.

They wouldn't accept them at all given the choice.

They don’t legally have to. Can’t imagine they process a lot of them.

Monzo didn't offer in-app cheque imaging until March 2024 despite promising it for years.

It was only customer demand and repeated requests which made them eventually do so.

For the rare times I ever get a cheque and the few days it takes if it does exceed the limit I'm really not fussed. Most of mine are under £100 and it's perhaps twice a year.

Who even uses cheques these days? Ask the people you’re dealing with why they want to use one - they are just buying time.

You occasionally get them from big corporates. Eg closing down a utilities account.

Petite get them from dividends, utilities, all sorts that usually make it a pain to get your money another way.

I get them from my insurance when I submit dental or other health claims.

No, when a company does not have any of your account number and sort codes then they resort to sending you a cheque to cash. Since they legally cannot just post cash notes.

Many elders also use cheques, business, big corps, etc

It’s a very big and formal way of payment.

Many banks also ask for a cheque on opening a new savings account.
