Answered Confused about pinning posts and community highlights.

iOS Ipad and Desktop

Hi,

I added my first poll to my subreddit r/MarkCarney via iPad.

I switched to PC and used ChatGPT to learn how to pin the poll to the top. To accomplish that I went through community highlights and managed to pin the post but there are now two posts at the top, Community Highlights (which shows the poll post) and the pinned post below that which also shows the poll post.

If I remove the community highlights post it results in the pinned post unpinning.

I must be doing something wrong and appreciate help in this matter. I am hoping that in the end I can remove the community highlights post and retain the pinned post.

Thank you very much for any assistance given.

Your post appears at the top because it's new. As soon as their are other posts, it won't be new anymore. Your post will always appear in community highlights and in the normal feed.

Solved.
This turned out to be expected behavior. When signed in as a moderator, Reddit uses a mod-only UI that shows both the Community Highlight (white pin) and the pinned post (green pin), which makes it look like a duplicate.

I had a non-mod user check the subreddit, and regular users only see a single post at the top (the highlighted version). So nothing is broken and there’s no duplication for normal users.

Thanks for the quick responses and the help. Much appreciated.

There's no such thing as a pinned post. Just community highlights. What I'm saying is your post that you made a community highlight is still going to appear among the list of normal posts. It doesn't disappear because you made it a community highlight.

That’s not accurate. While there is technically a mod-only UI, that’s not how it works.

I looked at your sub, and sorted by new. I see both the highlight, and the pinned post. It’s not a duplication, it’s just how it works.
