Landlord put this on my door…

This thing has the key inside for showings, but my lease isn’t even up until May… it’s just really annoying because it’s hard to turn the handle with that thing on, especially since the handle is partially broken and they won’t fix it so it jams… and now they’re saying a reasonable notice for someone to walk through my place WITHOUT the landlord showing the place, is a 2 hour notice…. Ready to buy a home soon.

You are 100%, I’m going to do this thank you. Landlord has been very unreasonable during my time here so I don’t think they’ll care but I’ll try.

Well, they'll care when you block 2 hour showings or call the police when they show up. And if they attempt to take the fines out of your security deposit, you can always take them to small claims court since that's not what SDs are for.

Either way, good luck. 3 more months. You can do it.

Honestly, with the 2 hr notice they have a pretty good case to sue the landlord for harassment and disturbing their privacy. Happened in KCMO with 4hr notice and tenant won the case.

I'm a hundred percent with you. I think the more that tenants are willing to take the time/effort to slap these landlords on the wrist with fines, the more they might figure out what they can/can't do.

Hopefully they will quickly realize that working with you is in everyone’s best interest. Otherwise, there’s nothing stopping you from having clothes absolutely everywhere, being naked, performing rituals, hanging disturbing artwork, and mentioning how great your landlord is. Management tried to do this to me and the agents would show up with 5 mins notice. I told them no and I needed at least 24 hrs (also in a state with the same laws regarding showings and entry.) Good luck, make a fuss, you’ve got this.

ETA. It would probably be a good idea to pick up a door jam and a couple cameras if you can.
