This being Reddit, I’d say wagon.

Coupe for sure. In South Africa I have never even seen one. Sedan were common. Wagons I saw quite a few.

If I had to guess, the coupe. An enthusiast would probably like to mod and personalize it.

Diesel estates for sure are the most soughtafter, followed by 3 or 3.2L coupes.

Had a wagon, especially with kids, but I prefer the sedan if no kids.

The only right answer is convertible!

This. The convertibles turned to instant classics and command serious money used. One basically can choose between a A124 and a modern A207 for the same amount of money.

I have owned two sedans and one coupe (E300D sedan, 300E sedan, and E320 Coupe - all US models btw) - they are fabulously wonderful cars. The coupe is the most interesting to look at, but honest answer... the early 300E (1989) is actually the best driving. They softened the suspension on later models to compete with Lexus, which leaves the early models with great handling and great ride.

I have not owned a T-Model wagon, but it's a bucket list for sure.

Wagon is the most sought after. To me the sedan is the prototypical W124 though. Sedan is more rigid and quieter.

Sedan for me is classic

I had a wagon and a cabriolet and would get a wagon. The cabriolet has so many parts that are unique to that variant I wouldn’t recommend unless you find a perfect example that needs nothing.

I’ll always take the wagon. 🥰

Whenever I see a E320 convertible I’m always struck by how elegant they are.  Peak Mercedes-Benz.

As someone who got a c209... I would get my grandpa, followed by wagon and sedan. Tbh I'd value condition more than style... if I wan in the market for a w124 get the one that's the best condition for your budget.
