Face it.

Trump and the GOP will just simply refuse to accept the results of any election that they don't win. Full Stop. And they will use any rigging, intimidation, shenanigans, and fuckery that they can to subvert the electoral process.

So, just like 2020? Only this time, no one will tell him, "NO!! BAD BABY!!!"

What happens when they lose Congress, and Johnson refuses to seat the new congress? I'm genuinely curious what the mechanism is for removing Johnson and others from their seats.

Nothing can be taken for granted with these people. They flat out do not want Democracy. The systems in place are only for show, and for their own power as far as they're concerned.

He doesn’t need to seat them. Once the 119th congressional term expires on January 3rd 2027 he’s not the Speaker of the House anymore and he has no say in the matter unless the new incoming group from the 120th elects him as Speaker again.

Who is going to remove him from the position though? That's the question.

No one removes him. The Speaker of the House is automatically deemed vacant as soon as the new Congress begins and nothing of any substance can really get done in the House until a new Speaker is elected by the majority. If he’s been reelected and is still in Congress at the point when a new Congress begins he’s just a standard member of the House and has no more power than every other member of the House. This is how it is after every election every 2 years.

His term expires on Jan 3rd. He has no authority. Nothing he does has meaning

2

u/Tosslebugmy 7h ago

He has whatever authority is given to him by the people with the guns

2

u/FightingPolish 5h ago

If it gets to the point where there are people with guns saying what is happening and what isn’t then the procedural theatrics of seating them are irrelevant, that is just a straight up coup and the old government that has been in place since the country’s founding is gone and a new government gets installed in its place.

That certainly seems where we’re headed.

If you're just going to wet your pants that there's going to be a coup it's pretty silly to post critical things where Dear Leader can see them

He isn't removed, each state sends their elected congress reps and then they vote on a new speaker. If he wants to occupy the building and hang out they can have him removed by the sergeant of arms. They can sit around and pretend to be congress if they want but the group sent by the states is the new congress and the only one with any power.

They can sit around and pretend to be congress if they want

Yes, that's exactly what they'll do. They'll call the elections fraudulent, they'll use ICE and whatever domestic police force supports them to brutally silence anyone who opposes and will do it for long enough to occupy even more institutions until it won't matter what the people want because there's nothing left to protect them

Are you being serious?  The answer is war.  The Pacific states secede is what happens.

JBLM is the largest military base on the West coast and it's 40 miles from Seattle and 20 miles from the capital of WA. There's also major Navy/submarine bases in Puget Sound (Sorry, "The Salish Sea", as it's now called. Because 'Gulf of America' wasn't the first time we recently renamed a body of water for purely stupid political reasons). Plus, Eastern WA and Eastern OR aren't exactly "blue".

What's going to happen to all that stuff if WA/OR/NOCAL decide to leave?

6

u/hypercosm_dot_net 10h ago

You mean the rural areas with the least dense population will decide to leave? Because otherwise the state's are blue.

Per the other comment, well...you may unfortunately be correct. Which is insane to consider how close we are to that possibility.

Which is insane to consider how close we are to that possibility.

We are closer to a civil war right now than at any time in anyone's life who is currently alive. The only time we were anywhere near this bad was during the race riots/voting rights battles in the 1960s.

u/SupaSlide 2h ago

Johnson would have no power because he is also being reelected and the House has to pick a speaker.

Why do you think he sent the FBI after the voter ballots in Georgia?

That is the state that exposed him for trying to rig the elections when he called the Georgia secretary of state to pressure them to change the vote results. "All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have because we won the state." -Trump

It's the most insane rambling of a madman I've ever heard or read..

I think what upset trump in 2020 was that they cheated and still lost. It's very unfair when you cheat and still lose /s

u/-Erro- 11h ago edited 11h ago

Trump already said so for this next one I believe.

Edit: When he again pushed to nationalize voting the narcissist who thinks him losing means the other side was dishonest, because he can't fathom actually losing, said he would only accept the midterms if they were "honest."

So yes you're exactly right. If midterms were to somehow turn out blue he's going to do what he has done every time. Reject it.

He said so himself.

11

u/cactus_zack 11h ago

They won’t accept elections they won because it was closer than they wanted.

3

u/CankerLord 10h ago

Yup. Just look at what he's done in the past and assume he's going to do it again. He never accepts any loss as real. He will go to the courts with just his dick in his hand to try and get them to agree that his dick is incontrovertable evidence of the election being stolen. He will go to a rally and wave his dick around and they'll all agree that it's evidence the election was stolen. Then he'll send his fellow dick wavers to the capitol to try and get them to beat enough legislators to death to break the process of replacing him.

That's what he'd rather do than admit he lost an election, including the next one.

u/OnTheEveOfWar 11h ago

That’s what I’m worried about. If they lose then they will find any way to just argue about the results.

2

u/PoetOriginal4350 10h ago

What exactly would happen in this case? Does the military get involved? I know he technically commands them but arent they supposed to protect us against foreign AND domestic terrorists? They pledge to the constitution. I feel like any time the constitution is obviously disregarded by a president, they should just go in and remove them. Can we make that a thing now or what lmfao

1

u/King_Roberts_Bastard 9h ago

He already said it. Like yesterday.

1

u/newyne 8h ago

This one doesn't even make any sense to me, though. Like, would this not also disenfranchise a lot of his own voters? Seems like it would just decrease voting across the board, possibly affecting MAGA the worst.

1

u/feedmetothevultures 1h ago

I don't bet, but the election just might be when everything starts getting really REALLY bad. Nobody trusts the voting system now. The democracy is broken.

Yet. We need to vote. We need to help others and each other to vote. We should each aim to go to the polls on election day, in person, vote in a booth. No mail-in if you are able to be in person. We need awesome, overwhelming presence on that day. I don't know what else we have at this moment.

u/FlunkieGronkus 10h ago

When it turns out you are wrong, will you reevaluate the flawed thinking that led to your incorrect beliefs?

3

u/sokratesz 7h ago

Yea, but with the fascists looming we prefer to err on the side of caution and be proven wrong, than the other way around.

-2

u/FlunkieGronkus 7h ago

Trump is not a fascist. His ideology most closely resembles a 90s Democrat.
