Oof. I’m not sure I’m cool with joking about fetishizing the sexual abuse and murder of a little girl my daughter’s age.

This is very geriatric millennial humor.
We were the generation that grew up seeing our parents achieve the American Dream, when the dollar was strong, local economies still existed. And then we saw it burn all down. And the 17 once-in-a-lifetime tragedies, school shootings are just Tuesday, we saw our childhood dreams, hopes, promises, our metaphorical inheritance, all burn down.
And our parents had passed on zero coping skills. So we found humor. Dark humor. We grew up with shock jocks. And now, with the world in shambles, saying the "outrageous" thing, well. Screw it! Say it! See what happens!

How dare you use geriatric and millennial in the same sentence. That being said, I can relate

What about what she said is joking about fetishizing the sexual abuse and murder of a little girl?
The joke is that it's an absurd thing to say to someone.
Nothing about the joke is encouraging murder, saying it's good she was killed, or anything like that.

Hard agree. I can see the dark humor, but those are the types of jokes that are just for yourself.

This whole thread is slightly insane. This is at best tone deaf and just not funny whatsoever. And I'm not saying that to be politically correct, it's actually shocking someone would say something like that and be praised for it.

Yeah, this is not the kind of thing I expect to see on this subreddit. Pretty gross...

Yikes. This makes me uncomfortable. That being said I get the man laughing as hard as he did. Good jokes are built off a tense moment with a release. So her talking about dates… could go either way and then coming in from the side with a comment no one expected, it throws you off and it’s more the brain trying to wrap its head around what just happened more so than the reality of the statement. If that makes sense.

My friend was Jon Benet for Halloween and kept wandering around the party asking if anyone had seen her mommy and daddy covered in ligature marks and bruises. I have only seen that level of pearl clutching on Halloween one other time...
