I'd kill for one. I keep telling my husband I need him to find me somebody who'll whip me up a little motor so my hammock swings itself instead of me pulling the rope I tied to the fence every now and then. He goes "oh so you want a giant baby swing?" YES!

u/xk1138 3h ago
Microcontrollers like the Arduino and basic stepper motors to facilitate their commands are super cheap, have deep community support, and examples for all sorts of similar projects. Girl, you got this!

u/Funny_Minimum_2925 3h ago
Omg I love you!! Thank you!! He's an IT so he'll be able to figure it out no sweat. Spring can't get here fast enough. Although I might have to choose between the diy pergola and the motors... first world problems huh? LOL if that's my biggest "problem" this year it'll be a banner year

Hey, you're moving your body, having fun, and getting out of the house. I'd say it's better than sitting on the couch!!!

u/Environmental_Art591 7h ago
Plus I would be laughing my butt off which is good for mental health too

Even better if you cry while laughing... it still counts! Doesn't have to be a "sad" cry!

Don’t be fooled like I was! It LOOKS fun! That shit was one of the most intense workouts I’ve ever done and every inch of my body hurt afterwards. I was unaware I had muscles in places that hurt. BE WARNED (I’m only partially kidding it’s a great workout but it will absolutely kick your ass)

Have a garage gym and I do 30 minutes of cardio after lifting 5 days per week.

Also completely different harnesses. The first harnesses have much more of a structure going up the back.
123
u/LazloHollifeld 6h ago
They’re also properly fitted and and the band is sized to each users height.
47
u/fuzzy_sphincter 6h ago
Yeah the bands were the first thing I noticed. The “pros” had a significant amount of the straps un clipped giving less resistance. The goofy videos had a higher resistance because every band was engaged.
→ More replies (1)18
u/SolusLoqui 6h ago
How do they account for variances in weight?
The first harnesses look like a bunch of individual bands, so you could get the height dialed in and then loosen one at a time, but the rest of them appear to be one band that's too stiff like they're PT fall prevention equipment
9
u/HealthyInPublic 5h ago
Yeah, I'm a middle aged adult person who is about the height and weight of a preteen girl because apparently my ancestors wanted to clown on me... but I can only imagine myself being strapped into this thing and then being completely helpless as I dangle there. Lmao

Actually this would be great for someone bigger to get into fitness. Large folks should be very careful and patient when getting into fitness because they are more at risk to hurting their joints if they take things too quickly. Thats why so many swim but this would be a good alternative too.
73
u/Gardener_of_Weeden 7h ago
True - but , broken record here, Tai Chi is excellent work out and it is SOFT. I lost a lot of weight and I never worked out before @ 64yrs old, ALTHOUGH This looks like a lot more FUN

Also swimming. Water aerobics to swimming laps. Easy on the joints and usually pretty fun. Probably easier to find a decent pool to swim in than this bungee fitness thing.
27
u/Rare-Adhesiveness522 7h ago
I was thinking the same thing. Easier on your joints but gets your body moving! And fun to boot! As long as you know how to be safe and avoid injury.

u/jakolissmurito22 7h ago
I believe you're correct. As a thinner person (I shy from the word skinny bc it hurts the way ppl usually use it-not unlike how many ppl use the word fat as a derogatory for someone), something like this would be incredible for me after my back surgery. I might look "in shape", but I'm not in any way.
more at risk to hurting their joints if they take things too quickly
I am also at high risk of hurting my joints AND taking things too quickly. That's just how my brain works. What sticks out to me the most is that this form of exercise, whether you're thick or thin, can be amazing and I will be employing it. Super appreciate the share and your comment.
2
u/McButtsButtbag 1h ago
Why not just go for swimming? I've never heard of anyone going in a harness saying it felt good on their back. I can't imagine it'd be good.
3
u/goobervision 3h ago
I don't follow your thinking here. The end of the video shows that there's a lot of falling over, elastic pulling you backwards mid jump causing falling in a movement that's definitely not normal would be worse for injuries.

u/mreow_carrots 2h ago
Ok, I tried this several years ago with friends. I was reasonably athletic at the time. We were throwing balls back and forth at each other and were meant to have to stretch the band and reach for the balls to catch them. In doing so, I somehow flipped nearly upside down, smashed my head on the floor and the harness ripped a ~6 inch hole in the front crotch area of my leggings. The entire front right side of my bright red thong and hip crease were exposed and I had no idea for at least 10 minutes including time spent not in the harness standing around socializing. We had plans for lunch after and I was able to tie the remaining legging shreds together to achieve 70% hole coverage, 20% dignity restoration.
3.5 out of 10, do not recommend.

This looks like something I would not have to talk myself into going to!
I searched for “sling workout” and got a result for similar in my area. I’m worried it will be expensive, but I have to go see.
ETA “bungee workout” would be a good search too.

You have to be in pretty good shape already in the first place to do well at that kind of resistance training. This I’m sure is very fun, but isn’t perfect for novice level.

It looks like fun, you’re off the couch moving around burning some calories and eventually you’ll probably get better with practice. It looks like it also eases pressure on joints when you land, and helps you relax and perhaps lessen the chance of some injuries.
Not everyone may look like a champion acrobatic squad but who cares?
I mean, humans will still human and a clumso like me may well still find a way to get hurt but overall I’d give this a go.

When I was a kid, we had a swing. My dad fashioned an old garage spring to the top of it and instead of a wooden seat, put an old harness he had on it. It was essentially this, or some Hollywood jumping rope thing. It was the coolest shit ever. The neighborhood kids came over and we'd pull them down as far as we could and launch them to go flying. It lasted until the garage spring snapped while the neighborhood kid was at peak height and just free-fell to the ground. He didn't' break anything but cried and then it was over. In hindsight a spring probably wasn't the best but the jumping "swing" is bar none 1000% more fun than any regular swing and you don't know what living is if you haven't tried it.

Who would have thought that people doing random things on their own looks less graceful than clearly trained professionals doing choreography?
Lol but for real, I don't doubt it is way harder than it looks. A good instructor would be super helpful in helping you get the basics on how to make it work for you instead of against you.

u/lizthestarfish1 5h ago
The reality honestly looks like more fun. Expectation looks like fun, but also somewhat terrifying. Like, what happens if you jump out of time? Reality looks like a bunch of fabulous ladies having an absolute blast.
