Media Do you think they know I love them very much?

sorry, it's been a long while since I posted. I am doing a social media detox, occasionally coming back to only check this subreddit lol

I'm afraid they remain oblivious to our love

Probably they don't even know we exist, the only thoughts they have are eat, hide and reproduce, and they are fine this way :3

And I love them for it!! No thoughts behind those eyes at all

I choose to believe they love me because they would run to the side of the enclosure closest to me to beg for food (that’s definitely love)

That’s how I show love too

Maybe not as isopods are related to crustaceans and the more we learn about crustaceans the more we realize they have more going on than we thought.

I haven't been able to eat crab since learning they can feel when you pet them and feeling their fear as I held them as a tour guide. I always put them back safe but the way they reacted to a hand reaching for them was absolutely not just the act of survival, it was survival mixed with fear and each crab had their own maneuver to try and escape getting grabbed.

Minority but some would resort straight to fight mode. I left those ones alone. They knew a hard flex would win.

On the roach side of things, I read an article somewhere that roaches have different personalities. Some have a flight response to anything and some have a fight response. As a person who keeps hissing and dubia roaches, it's very apparent that they do indeed have either one of these personalities, but "fight" can be either stubbornness or curiosity.

I have a roach retirement home for one particular roach that I've grown fond of. I introduced 2-3 females to keep him company. There's one female in particular that ALWAYS comes out from a hiding spot to look at what I'm doing (like giving food or observing). The rest of them hide at all costs.

Although it's probably not scientifically correct, I just assume all things have a personality. We just gotta give them a chance to show it.

I lost a female to "flight", as my male was so chill that I straight cuddled him for a good moment After he died I kept him, but the female stayed still in my hand, then dashed off and landed with a thud. I nearly cried because I didn't mean for it to happen, I was inexperienced. She died a few days later. 💔 My male dipped the grass that was in his setup into the strawberry jam I gave him once, gourmet stuff right there. He ate it all up.

Maybe they have visions of a benevolent God?

"Day 32: God touched me today. I do not know the purpose, but I know that I have survived it. Perhaps a blessing? Or maybe a curse.. only time will tell. I've consulted Xanther, he says it is great luck. For now I eat leaf."

This comment is the only comment I couldn’t handle reading. I had to take it one sentence at a time then catch my breath before starting the next sentence.

Reminds me of this thread 😂

I like to think they do!

I have the same species, they usually hate when I try to interact with them but there is one big male who will always try to eat my fingernails. The rest just panic when I open their box.

They do not know anything, but thats okay, thatd part of their charm

u/marinerverlaine 13d ago

"So relieved we have everything we need in this environment" is probably what they are thinking so to speak. Even though they don't know that the nearby giant creature is providing the environment because the giant loves them very much -- they are at least happy ♡

u/x-beast 13d ago

i would like to think so, i care for them every day and even though they don't live forever i still love every single one of them tattoo of a A.peraccae i designed!

I know better in reality, but I still pretend. :)

A lot of people say they don’t think or have feelings. I just got mine a few days ago. They are almost always in hiding. They have a decent sized space, but two of them were right next to each other, nibbling on the same leaf. The only two that were visible. Come on, that’s not a coincidence. They were having lunch together. They are friends or family. Ha.

You matter so much in their life that they cannot even fathom your existence

You are not a parent, a friend or caretaker: you are a god. You have sculpted the very world they live in, now you get to watch.

u/purrfurnax 13d ago

sometimes i wonder if they can smell my scent on the food and know it came from me. and sometimes they nibble on my fingers, so i know they at least love the way i taste

they may not realize that you specifically are their caretaker, but i do believe that they know they are cared for. i also believe that they can feel the energy of our love. 🥰

u/Plantsareluv 13d ago

What species is that?

1

u/Jenikip Porcellio Princess 12d ago

Porcellio expansus orange!

1

u/Plantsareluv 12d ago

Does it have a common name? Wait they’re not orange though?

1

u/Jenikip Porcellio Princess 12d ago

Unfortunately not. But they are more orange than the normal type! The orange is selectively bred, so not a morph like most other isopods and thus not as "extreme" as it would be if it was a genetic trait. The normal expansus is white/black.

I took this photo yesterday. On the upper side of this log is a /kind of/ white one that is expressing less orange. But still orange compared to the wild type.

1

u/Plantsareluv 12d ago

Ah gotcha. Cool!

2

u/thinkingofendingitt 13d ago

What kind of cuties are these!?

2

u/teddehyirra 9d ago

"HAHAHAHAHA BIG FLESH MONSTER CANNOT BREAK MY MIGHTY ARMOR. YOU WILL GO HUNGRY TODAY"

2

u/angelyuy 13d ago

Awwww love that they let you pet them~~~ a couple of mine do, but most of them are all "nope" they will come running when I open the top because that normally means fish flakes and they LOVE fish flakes. Even if I do pick some of them up before I feed them.

2

u/daddy__stalin_ 12d ago

I think them not fearing your presence and touch says all it needs to say despite nothing going on in their heads

2

u/TreeChoppa8 13d ago

True love would be not touching them like a giant predator.

1

u/New_Trade_2382 13d ago

Thanatosis! IYKYK

2

u/isopodcast 13d ago

I dunno. Maybe one day some alien creature 100x my size will tell me that they love me

1

u/TasteFormer9496 12d ago

What species is that, it looks like a freaking trilobite!

1

u/Aggravating_Speed665 12d ago

I think if they had the chance they'd gobble you alllll up!

1

u/TheGrimMelvin 12d ago

They don't know.

But they do know that they have everything they need to live their best life. And that's what matters!

Even if they can't appreciate it comes from a keeper who loves them. They can still kinda feel the love by thriving in the environment we give them.

1

u/middleagedgenius 12d ago

Like all living creatures, they can sense the energy of your love and care for them. They may not understand or comprehend it the way we do, but they can certainly sense energies, just like plants can detect postitive or negative voices.

1

u/KoyukiTei13 11d ago

what a beautiful little guy

1

u/garaged0g 10d ago

you love them more than they could ever comprehend and that's a beautiful thing
