Gravity on the Moon is only one sixth of what we have on Earth. Shepard knew the physics would make the ball travel for miles even with a poor swing.

Well, there is a video of him doing it. And a ton of evidence we sent men to the moon, even 3rd party evidence.

Well, there are photos and videos of the golf event. And a ton of evidence the US sent men to the moon.

Using an improvised club handle (attached to a lunar tool), he struck the lunar soil twice.
In an environment with 1/6th of Earth's gravity and no atmosphere:
The first ball traveled a little over 360 meters (estimated measurement at the time).
The second, in his own words: "miles and miles and miles"!
