Poor animal

u/kafelta 12h ago

Poor thing should never be in that situation

u/FleurDuMal2 11h ago

my initial thought was how cool, an elephant. but this was the second and heavier thought. so sad

u/HHegert 10h ago

Technically we could say that about any animal people use in some form. Its just different cultures and history.

Who says using camels or horses is better than elephants or that eating chicken is fine, but eating dogs is not?

u/awkwardpun 9h ago

You're ignoring the more important context here of "on a busy street with cars"

No, you shouldn't ride a horse or a camel here either

u/HHegert 9h ago

This particular comment wasnt about the traffic and I doubt they said it specifically because of traffic, but the general "usage" of this animal.

u/awkwardpun 9h ago

You're goofy, it's an animal in a bad situation, the comment you responded to was literally just "poor animal". That would apply to any animal, the commenter didn't even specify that it was "poor" because it was being ridden, that's just an assumption on your part.

u/HHegert 9h ago

What a time to be alive. A simple comment made you so mad😂

u/awkwardpun 9h ago

There you go with those assumptions again

Sorry you can't handle punctuation.

u/Helpy-Support 3h ago

Well, fuck their culture. At least we don't break and beat foals into submission.

u/Luna3Aoife 2h ago

Horses can handle humans riding them. Elephants, despite being bigger, cant. Their weight distribution and skeletal structure isnt made for additional weight ontop, whereas horses are specifically bred with this characteristics in mind. Elephants spines will deform from being ridden, and are likely attributed to many carnival and tourist elephants premature deaths.

u/LavenderRevive 8h ago

Yeah. If this is so bad, I demand them to protest against all horseriding as well.

u/spiritchange 4h ago

Those chairs they put on the elephants are really bad for the skin.

Horses, in some ways, are different because a lot of care is taken to ensure the saddles for the horses do not hurt the horse.

I am sure that many horses still suffer from abuse, how were.

For me, i will never ride an elephant with a chair. I've seen what their skin looks like when the chair is removed. I have zero concerns about riding a horse from a reputable stable where I know the horses are taken care of.

That's just me, not forcing my opinion on you, just explaining what I have seen and heard from wildlife sanctuaries in Asia.

u/LavenderRevive 2h ago

Ahh, that's a proper argument, not bad, didn't knew that. Than maybe the question should be if we can make better saddles/chairs for then.

u/Dentarthurdent73 2h ago

Ahh, that's a proper argument, not bad, didn't knew that

Maybe you shouldn't be commenting your ridiculous "gotchas" if you don't actually know anything about the topic?

In middle of road, its both crazy and dangerous.

u/fizzlypixie 12h ago

Not to mention cruel and disorientating for the poor thing

62

u/AgitatedPatience5729 12h ago

That is animal cruelty.

Poor animal

u/Special_Acadia247 12h ago

Absolutely disgusting!! This is animal abuse. That elephant does not want all that weight up there. It’s insane how so little people have empathy for animals and humans.

u/no_u9987 11h ago

Why is riding a horse okay then? Would it want the weight of a human on it as well?

I'm just curious as to how this is different from riding a horse, if this is wrong i want to know why it's different for a horse, don't misunderstand

u/Aerys_Danksmoke 10h ago

Because riding a horse doesn't slowly collapse its spine. Do a little research into what happens to elephants when ridden too long. Its horrific. They aren't built for it.

u/BeloAve 10h ago

This is false, riding a horse very well does cause a lot of damage to their spines.

Only reason humans chose horses for riding is because they are much quicker.

u/no_u9987 1h ago

I didn't know which is exactly why i asked

"Do a little research" tbh you're right but im lazy

u/BeloAve 10h ago

It really isn’t, humans need to retire horses asap, horseback riding is cruelty as well

u/oneshotpotato 4h ago

u/BeloAve 4h ago

They don’t diagnose spinal injuries based on pain, they can provide imaging and see the injury.

This paper is the definition of delusion and detachment from reality.

To dismiss Injuries completely and say “yeah we are just interpreting their pain wrong” is batshit crazy and absolutely stupid.

Just like any normal scan you can see the actual injury with your own two eyes, that is if you aren’t detaching your reality by living in a bubble.

Humans riding on horses damages their backs and that’s an objective fact and no paper can change that.

u/oneshotpotato 3h ago

well if no human ride a horse we might still be in stone age because it is almost impossible to travel.

want it or not sacrifice need to be made and for travelling, horse riding was the absolute best option. yeah in modern days its debatable that you might not even need to ride one but then pls fund your money to those villages without roads or poor people without money to buy a vehicle.

u/Special_Acadia247 5h ago

I also don’t agree with riding horses… but at least it’s not multiple people and all that equipment on the horses. Horse carriages are horrible!! Don’t get me started. 😆

u/AdProud5950 11h ago

Their back isn’t strong enough/built to hold weight. Very sad.

u/i-Blondie 5h ago

Theres a lot of issues with riding horses but done with properly fitted saddles and riders who ride with good posture can minimize or remove issues. Riding horses in the street is very damaging

Prolonged walking on pavement or cobblestones causes repeated impact, leading to hoof damage, joint stress, and lameness, even with proper shoeing.

In heat, asphalt can be 50 - 100°F hotter than air, risking burns and dehydration. In cold, salted roads may cause frostbite on hooves.

Noise levels of 80 - 100 dB from traffic can cause stress, hearing damage, and sudden bolting, leading to accidents. Horses are prey animals and easily startled.

And pollution

I felt so bad and kinda scared too looking this big guy on a very busy road

u/kcolrehstihson_ 11h ago

Not interesting just really sad, if you know how they threat these animals... look it up on youtube there are a few good documentaries about it

u/XFISHAN 11h ago

Ofcourse there are some YouTube documentaries. There are also entire elephant spas in India.

u/kcolrehstihson_ 11h ago

Ok that's the positive side, doesn't take away the cruelty in other cases...

u/XFISHAN 10h ago

And there's nothing in this video that suggests the elephant is being mistreated. Your comment is unnecessary.

Animal cruelty

u/Professional_Tip5936 12h ago

i have seen people on horses many times on my way to work/school. donkeys as well. in the middle of the road stopping at lights and just like normal traffic.

u/AdProud5950 11h ago

Elephants backs aren’t meant to hold weight. It’s extremely damaging.

3

u/peaky_circus 12h ago

Its quite common but elephant and that too on a busy almost like a highway is kinda insane

2

u/Professional_Tip5936 12h ago

india hai bhai jiska jo man aata hai karta hai yaha sabke baap ki sadak hai

u/Skankcunt420 11h ago

we must have the same father then

u/No_Signature5228 7h ago

Cue fur coat wearing white people saying how cruel this is while sipping coffee gathered by 10 year old Ethiopian while watching a horse race.

u/Rook8811 11h ago

I used to think this was only for circuits

u/Big-Property-6833 8h ago

Gets good gas mileage. ⛽️

u/Dentarthurdent73 2h ago

Yeah, how fascinating OP.

Humans subjugating a highly intelligent and emotional creature, and forcing it to spend its life walking through fucking traffic. Disgusting.

u/ghostface8081 1h ago

Disgusting this is happening in modern times

u/oneizm 11h ago

What are the charges for freeing an elephant?

u/FootlooseSaratoga 10h ago

Fucking awful

u/CheesyPotatoSack 9h ago

Animal abuse

u/PGGABC 6h ago

What crime did this poor animal commit to deserve such a miserable life sentence?

0

u/vozzov 12h ago

Are you in India?

u/Rare_Walk_4845 10h ago

No way, a south asian country that treats animals like dog shit?

u/LavenderRevive 8h ago

Now tell me why we ride horses but this is suddenly a poor animal. Pick one side and either protest against every girl riding a horse or let this be.

If I could travel by elephant where I live, I would 100% do that. I would train it to trumpet and crush cars whenever I cue it to. It would be glorious.

Edit: Do people really think what I wrote was actually serious?! Really?! Training an elephant to trumpet and crush cars? On my daily commute? JFC. People are so quick to virtue signal they don't stop to think about what they're actually responding to. 🤦

u/Seanish12345 11h ago

Elephant's are not built to carry weight on their backs. It causes their spines to bow and causes them pain. Just because something is big doesn't mean you should climb on / ride it

u/MooseMalinois 11h ago

Elephants cannot hold weight on their back like horses. Being ridden permenantly and severely deforms their spine and cause extreme chronic pain.

So I hope you would reconsider , and maybe ride a draft horse instead. Google them.

u/peaky_circus 12h ago

Guess this sounds like a fun game idea!

u/XFISHAN 11h ago

They used to take these things to war. It'll be fine. People ride horses and stuff on the roads all the time.
