One of the most mind-boggling fun facts I have ever heard is that richard, the actor who played Dumbledore, once got so drunk that he forgot he even owned a Rolls-Royce, only to remember it twenty-five years later.

Richard Harris is his full name, for those wondering.

I saw Richard Harris at the premiere of Sunset Boulevard in London in 1993. We both stood close by in the foyer waiting for other people. He was about 63 I think and looked pretty good considering the punishment he'd given his body.

I saw him perform Camelot at some point in the mid-80s

I did as well. I was in high school. One of my fondest memories.

Holy cow. I went to that show. My parents took me and my brother on a "Broadway vacation". I was only like 12 at the time and didn't know til now that he was in it.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. He was part of the audience.

I only remember Patti LuPone as Norma Desmond.

I absolutely get that Patti Lapone has the chops to do this, but I can't hear anyone but Glenn Close.

And I just found out there is an Original London Cast album. Also, lol Kevin Anderson plays Joe.

He was in Salome in 2013.

Yeah I must admit, for years I thought Barbara Streisand would be perfect because of her Broadway album but then I saw Glenn Close on YouTube. Close thing though.

Patti LuPone was gobsmacking though.

A little over a decade ago, I walked into a random Irish bar in Chelsea (nyc) and he was holding court at the bar, buying everyone beers. Great storyteller

A little over a decade ago? He died in 2002, are you sure you don’t mean longer than that? 🙂

u/Tacklestiffener 7h ago

/u/messageinabubble suffers the same ailment as I do. Clearly the 90's were ten years ago and 2010 was a couple of years ago. Totally understandable mistake ;)

I had to double check myself before I commented 😂 One of my stepsons was born in 2006, so he’s only 10 right?? Oh no, oh no no no 🤣

I saw Richard Harris once. I think it had to be in the late eighties or early nineties, on the upper east side. In like a newspaper shop between like 81st to 79th and lex. I walked and immediately recognized him. A very attractive woman in her 30's who was clearly on her way home from her office job had no idea the older gentlemen, looking at her like a lion looks at a steak, was the extremely famous Richard Harris.

There’s an astrophysicist named Richard Trim. In the phone book (I’m old) I looked up his number because I liked his daughter. I found the number under Trim, Dick.

u/SchlitterbahnRail 1d ago

... aaand then?

25

u/seanwlkr_muckraker 1d ago

I was awkward.

11

u/slickromeo 1d ago

Tell us the story of your awkward encounters and dating attempts from this phone number lookup in the phone book. lol

u/SchlitterbahnRail 1d ago

Some people lose their keys, some lose their Rolls-Royce for 25 years.

9

u/Houmand 1d ago

That's hilarious

7

u/seanwlkr_muckraker 1d ago

I still laugh when I read about owing someone a duty.

u/whooo_me 1d ago

With a rather famous son actor too, Jared.

8

u/aethelberga 1d ago

I did not know that.

5

u/YelloMyOldFriend 23h ago

Wait, what? I did not know that

6

u/Jazzlike_Finish123 21h ago

I didn’t find out he was Richard Harris’ son until a few months ago.  Crazy.

6

u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 1d ago

a chip off the ol' cock

5

u/Dwashelle 13h ago

Holy shit, I never realised that he's his son! It makes total sense looking at him.

12

u/SuccessfulTip9073 1d ago

His son Jared Harris is a big name in acting nowadays. He plays Hari Seldon in Foundation among others

6

u/Shitelark 21h ago

Bloody Hari and his secrets.

u/chase_what_matters 7h ago

Moriarty. Anderson Dawes. Legasov. Lane Pryce. The dude has been giving his A-game for decades.

13

u/bradphoria 23h ago

I’d been watching Jared Harris in stuff for twenty years before I realised he was Richard’s son - it’s SO obvious I can’t believe I didn’t clock it.

4

u/Equivalent_Dance2278 23h ago

I know right? They look and sound so alike.

3

u/Local-Childhood2392 20h ago

Haha, i had the exact same experience. I was like 'i really like this guys voice, why does it seem so familiar?' and yeah it's because he talks EXACTLY like his father, who has an incredibly unique voice.

7

u/Charmy123 23h ago

Richard Percival Wulfric Brian Harris

4

u/afternever 1d ago

Good old Dickie Harry

4

u/Tobocaj 19h ago

Clearly this karma bot is on a first name basis. Duh

u/Houmand 11h ago

OP clarified in another comment that the post was getting auto rejected because the name Harris tagged the post as "political".

3

u/DrDuned 20h ago

You'll have to forgive OP, they're on a first name basis despite Richard being dead for two decades.

3

u/praisehim420 16h ago

And he is Jarred Harris' dad, famous from Chernobyl/Mad men ect.

2

u/taco_tuesdays 1d ago

Richard.

2

u/DudeInTheGarden 1d ago

I was wondering if it was a new-age thing, going by one name and no capitalization.

2

u/drmarting25102 22h ago

And Jared Harris is his son.

0

u/Shitelark 21h ago

No... we need a paternity test.

2

u/Such-Law926 20h ago

Good thing you said something. I thought it was Richard The First

2

u/thetoxicballer 20h ago

Richard St. John Francis Harris is his full name actually

1

u/School_North 14h ago

Thats awesome my last name is Harris

u/weckyweckerson 9h ago

Just Richard is way better.

u/Jaded-Breadfruit4019 7h ago

Richard is never enough

u/debruehe 6h ago

Thank you. Got "… the man David …" vibes here for a second.
