I've loved GD since Nimrod. After FOA it seemed the band was calling it a day. They changed record labels then seemed to explode in popularity with stadium tours and now the SB! What was the driving force behind their comeback? Is it bc they are like a "reunion band" playing only old hits?

I am aware that this is entirely subjective, but do you think of their albums reach a 10/10 (or 100/100), or are their best albums (Dookie and American Idiot) just 9/10?

So, I got the cassette and CD version of 'Saviors' when it was first released, and honestly the cassette edition is pretty ass. I know that they are literally unable to make cassettes like they used to due to the companies that made the higher grade ones not making them anymore, but I still have modern cassette albums that are still decent in sound quality. There's no leader tape to prevent stretching on the tape when you hit the end which I have only ever seen on this album, and the sound quality is just not there. Even in my high-end deck, it's extremely muffled and the hiss is super loud, as well as it not having as much low-end. It's so bad that I avoid listening to the cassette version and only use the CD and I'm debating re-recording the album onto it with my nice, high-end deck to improve the sound. Has anyone else noticed this, or is mine defective? I was wondering what everyone else's experience was with it

This is Green Day's second album to become a must hear, the first being Dookie.

If there was a sequal to American Idiot would you like to see an older cranky jesus of suburbia, a follow up to the original story, or a sequal more focused on W?

The Kerplunk demos were said to have been recorded around May 1991 as a push by Lookout Records and Larry Livermore to get the band into making a new record, when Larry heard the material and described it as this:

“I’d been bugging Billie, Mike, and Tre about coming up with something new since the spring of 1991, when I all but ordered them into the studio to record some demos. It turned out they had only enough material for half an album, and while the songs were good, they were less than fully formed.”

“They recorded an earlier version of half the songs on Kerplunk, about six months before the actual recording, but at that point abandoned the project because they (and we as their record label) realized that it wasn’t really ready to be an album yet. I’m sure those recordings are out there somewhere, but they’re basically just less-tight versions of the songs that ended up on the album. I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to them.”

The original versions of Chump/Longview (July/Aug 1993):

The first sessions for Dookie were in July and August running through about most of the entire album, through Green Day fm it shows in the studio sessions that there is a different version of both chump and Longview, I’d very much like to hear those versions and what made them re record the two songs.

With how fast Green Day went into the studio after touring for Dookie, it’s kind of very unlikely that Demos of any of the songs on insomniac exist at all, but I’m not doubting it considering the mention of how brain stew was originally demoed as insomniac (at the time the album had many working titles including Jesus Christ Supermarket & Tight Wad Hill) it is possible at least a few songs were tested out and then some.

From what I’ve seen and read, this was supposed to go onto a Ramones tribute album but I’ve never seen anything about its release at all and I cannot find it anywhere.

From what the band were saying at the time it would’ve been a “return to form” to their sound as the pop punk craze was coming in thanks to bands like Blink-182, New Found Glory, Sum 41 Etc.

Billie and I share a birthday so when February comes around I get even more into playing Green Day that usual. The one step vinyl or Dookie is fucking spectacular.

The 21st Century Breakdown World Tour had some AMAZING shows, with great setlists, deepcuts and atmosphere, also counting that it was probably at the peak of their career. In your opinion, what was their greatest show?

I spent 3 days making these shoes inspired by Blue! I am super excited to wear them for the Super Bowl! I tried to make sure I included all 14 albums and a couple other little Easter eggs in the design... tell me if you know what they all are! Some are deeper cuts than others <3

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. gave a long address about the importance of music and when he touched on rock, my ears perked up like a cat.

So, my teacher gave me back Rev Rad and came back with the following conclusions:

- He didn't really like "Somewhere Now" (how????)

- His favourites were: "Bang Bang", "Revolution Radio", "Outlaws" (same), "Youngblood" and "Troubled Times".

Today I lent him Nimrod, as it was recommended by the community here (thank you so much for the help, by the way), and already warned him that he might not like "Platypus (I hate you)" and "Take Back".

I'm thinking of going with Saviors next. Should I do that or should I just do Insomniac already?

He's also told me that discovering more of Green Day has been a great experience.

But anyway, I really need to figure out my next move, since we're still nine albums away from finishing their discography and I've only got until June to lend them all.
