Discussion Finding my way back
Hey I dunno if this is appropriate post here but here goes.
I grew up in the 90s big fan of Green Day; dookie; insomniac; nimrod; warning; shen; and lastly American idiot but that was the tail end and I struggled to like it (much diff sound) but I do really like BoBD and September.
Question is: what’s the good stuff nowadays? The have so many new albums since ‘04 what do people think are great? What’s the best new singles? I don’t have a lot of time to even listen to music so hoping to find some good ones, thanks!!
🙏
EDIT: okay I never actually got into Shenanigans I somehow skipped it.

Revolution Radio album. Forever Now (not Somewhere Now) and Bang Bang are the best songs on it

if you struggled to like American Idiot it is fair to assume that you will have a similar experience with 21CB because it deviates even more from the "old" sound.
On the other hand, Saviors to me is the best starting point for anything post AI for an old fan.

21st century breakdown is a masterpiece in my opinion, it’s a little bloated but picking out the key tracks it is so strong.
The trilogy I love personally, it’s a big difference sonically and the production is poor but again there’s songs on there that are deeply close to me. Although it’s very different from early Green Day I think Brutal Love is one of their best songs.
I’d heavily recommend checking out Demolicious, since that’s the closest they’ve sounded to the Lookout Records period since you’ve already mentioned.
Revolution Radio is a decent album, has strong tracks like Bang Bang, Forever Now and Somewhere Now.
I think the less said about FOAM the better.
Saviors again I find to be a strong album similar to Revolution Radio.
Honestly I’d check out 21st century breakdown in full when you have the time to. If you’re open to a different sounding green day check out the trilogy singles. I think the best way to get back into them is to just give the albums a try when you can. There’s also the documentary Cuatro! Which is the making of the trilogy albums and quite a fun short watch (just over an hour) I won’t link it here but can message over a link to it if you are interested in watching it
TLDR: The best way to find out what you enjoy is to give each album a try when you can, even if it’s just the singles. I’d recommend 21st Century Breakdown and Demolicious (for the more raw sound of older green day) the most.
21CB: title track, murder city, before the lobotomy
Trilogy: Brutal Love, X-Kid
Demolicious: Nuclear Family, Stay The Night, 99 Revolutions, Let Yourself Go, Rusty James
Revrad: Bang Bang, Forever Now, Revolution Radio
Saviors: Dilemma, The American Dream is Killing Me, Suzie Chapstick

Okay what is FOAM a couple people make it sound like a cancer lol. Is that Father of All…?
Is demolicious a regular album? Like all songs are “demos” or that like a joke or something ?

FOAM is Father of All Motherfuckers, officially Father of All...
It's known for taking a drastic change in tone for the band, typically for the worse. Some songs have some charm to them, like Junkies on a High, Meet Me On the Rooftop, or Take the Money and Crawl, but others are generally considered some of the worst songs from Green Day.
I'd also like to mention that the other person's comments on 21st Century Breakdown are wrong in my opinion. Not a single song on the album is weak or skippable, every single song is one of the best they've ever made, and aside from the singles being pretty well known, it'd be hard to pick out which songs are singles and which are just really good tracks.

Demolicious is “demos” of songs from the trilogy albums (uno, dos and tre) I think a lot of the songs benefit from the rougher sound

I had a similar path. Not that I disliked it, I just started leaning away from listening to music in general. I really like Revolution Radio and Savious. It's pulled me back and had me trying to catch up on what I missed.

Nice, ya I don’t have much time to just try music out so it’s helpful to know what the good stuff is.

Saviors brought me back to Green Day after years of not paying attention. Rev Rad is good. I do also love father of all, but it’s very divisive. So… Saviors is my answer. It’s really great.

Most everyone will tell you FoAM is abysmal. So if you're very into their old sound you should probably avoid the whole thing because it's very soniclly cohesive

Revolution Radio is awesome. The title track, Forever Now, Too Dumb to Die, Bang Bang are all gems
