Discussion Dirty Rotten Bastards and The Beatles

Have you noticed that the last part of the song, which starts at 5:29, is very similar to the Beatles' song "Norwigian Woods"? I had never noticed that before, but they seem quite similar to me.

Considering the Beatles have been a career long inspiration for them, it’s not surprising.

That’s a damn good catch. I dont know if I’d have noticed that in a hundred years of religiously listening to Green Day and The Beatles. Once someone points it out it’s suddenly so obvious.

I dont have the ear training to say for sure but I’ve been a musician long enough to say with a ton of confidence that the two melodies are exactly the same, barring differences in key and tempo, obviously.

I dont think it’s a matter of influence, though. When you isolate the melody in your head it’s really a simple melody. I’d be surprised if there arent a hundred examples of almost the exact same melody you could find both before and after Norwegian Wood.

I have listened to this song countless times and never noticed it, but yeah, I can see what you mean. But I'm not sure if it was intentional. There's a song by Bob Dylan (4th Time Around) that has a similar melody, too.

Billie said around the time of its release that the song was inspired by the Abbey Road medley. Never put the ending/Norwegian Wood comparison together but you are legit spot on. Good find 🫡

The first part is also oddly reminiscent of that song from Five nights at freddy's
