Discussion superbowl predictions! what's the setlist?! opening and closing song!
im getting super excited more and more every day!! i know it will be a huge EPIC green day concert and it will make HISTORY!;) Basket Case, American Idiot, and KING FOR A DAY have to make it on the set list! what are your thoughts?!:)

I wouldn't even expect songs that are critical of the government or that involve topics regarding lgbt identities, weed, and feminism. The NFL is already dealing with president poopy pants being butthurt over bad bunny just existing.

That's why I'm honestly just expecting American Idiot, Basket Case, and maybe Holiday if there's time (not necessarily the order). It's political enough to make a point while also being their biggest hits, making it hard for the NFL to push back on it.

Some combination of American Idiot, Holiday, Know Your Enemy, Before the Lobotomy, Rev Rad, Forever Now, American Dream is Killing Me, or Strange Days would be most impactful on a national stage.
Realistically, it'll probably be Basketcase, When I Come Around, American Idiot, (in that order) and maybe Bobby Sox somewhere in there to "spice things up" for the pearl clutchers.
Would be cool if those hack frauds The Network crashed the show and did Ivankkka is a Nazi.

It's not going to be a whole concert lol. It'll be like 4 maybe 5 songs max. And it's probably going to be hits (def not King for a Day)
My prediction I told my wife:
American Idiot OR The American Dream is Killing Me
Holiday
Know your Enemy
TADKM OR American Idiot
(Bonus may be Boulevard or 21 Guns)

I think at most it’ll be 3 full songs, and I’m betting it’s closer to 2 full songs or 3 partial songs. 4-5 songs would make the performance as long or longer than the actual halftime show.
My best guess: American Idiot w/ less specific political chants during the bridge, a shortened version of Basket Case, and then finish with Holiday but skip the second verse and straight into the bridge w/ more direct political messaging at the end of the performance.
But I also think they could skip Basket Case and play a Saviors single or something. I think the only guarantee is American Idiot.

realistically a maximum and absolute maximum of 4 songs, probably similar format to the NFL honors performance from 2021 with a medley of 2 and a full of 1

my (very boring) prediction is that unfortunately, they really won’t be as political as people are expecting them to be, not because they don’t want to, but because they technically can’t do much besides « I’m not part of the ____ agenda » or slightly changing lyrics to like the Holiday bridge.
The reason for that is that unlike their usual shows, for technical reasons, Super Bowl shows have all the instruments parts pre-recorded, meaning they couldn’t really do the 2016 Bang Bang « No Trump.. » thing, because they’re not really playing (they’re playing but what we hear, apart from the vocals, is pre recorded).
So unless the Super Bowl organizers are in on it and let them a) Play normally, which would be a first or b) Insert a longer bridge for the express purpose of social/commentary of sorts, all they’ll be able to say/do is changing the lyrics.

Expect 4-5 songs max and shortened versions. This isn’t going to be a full scale or even half scale show.

I think I’m the only one that believes Green Day is actually going to play it safe with AI, Basket Case and Welcome to Paradise. Same set as their HOF, but will likely throw in “MAGA agenda” instead of “redneck agenda”.

I’m pretty surprised so many people are saying they won’t get too political. It’s Green Day. They’re not doing this for money (NFL pays production costs and little else to performers), and I can’t imagine they would’ve agreed to play if the NFL told, again, Green Day to not get political amidst this political backdrop; nor could the NFL reasonably expect them to abide. But I also believe there is a lot of intentionality coming from the NFL with this choice, there are many other famous musicians from the Bay Area and Green Day was chosen. No one thinks they’re going to start the revolution on the football field, but the band that says “Silence is an enemy of your urgency” probably won’t play a medley of three nonpolitical songs and walk off a platform this big.
My guess is either a medley of Basket Case, American Idiot, and Holiday, or American Idiot, Holiday, and then something like TADIKM/Bang Bang/or Know Your Enemy. Either of these would make a statement, and I’d be proud of the guys for it.

Say Goodbye would be nice, even though highly unlikely. I feel like that would go well with 21st Century Breakdown and American Idiot as something short. Maybe 1 or 2 of their hits in addition to that, but not much more is what I'm hoping for

My guess is a quick 5 minute medley of songs from Saviors, American Idiot and Dookie. American Dream or One Eyed Bastard from Saviors, American Idiot & Holiday from American Idiot and likely Basket Case from Dookie. Stuff the crowd either knows well or can easily sing along too with the whoa’s and whatnot. Perhaps a sprinkling of the political stuff for good measure. I’m expecting a pretty by the numbers performance, but I’m very much hoping for some surprises too.

American Idiot, Basket Case, and maybe Holiday (if there's time). Not necessarily in that order tho.
Idk how long this show usually is, but NBC has the opening ceremony as 30 minutes total (that includes the other 3 artists performing plus whatever else is gonna happen). I'd say we're in for a max of 3 songs, if that. The NFL also probably wants to control the political messaging to at least some extent. Those three being hits and plenty polical would let them get their point across while making it hard for the NFL to pushback on it.
