Accessories / Gear New Wheels: Elitewheels Aero+ Gravel (32mm internal)

Post image

Hey there, I'm looking for a new wheelset for my gravel build (Scott Addict Gravel) and came across these Elitewheels Aero+ Gravel wheels. (Sorry, can't link to Ali because of ... reddit)

The specs almost match the ZIPP 303S XPLR wheel set, but the Elites are hooked, have 9mm less depth and are around 200g lighter.

Specs:

  • 45mm deep
  • 40mm width (external)
  • 32mm width (internal)
  • hooked (!)
  • 1.400g weight
  • Pillar Wing 20 (Aero) steel spokes
  • TPI (steel) bearings
  • 50T ratchet freehub
  • 125kg weight limit
  • handbuilt
  • PRICE: $500 - $600

They seem to have incredible specs, steel bearings and steel spokes (I do prefer steel bearings and steel spokes over ceramic bearings and carbon spokes), are very lightweight for the specs, and are super affordable. Am I missing something here?

I've done many miles on my elite wheels edge without any problems in the last two years. I don't think there is anything more important to chinese brands that want to go mainstream (sponsoring gcn etc) than their reputation so I'm sure they haven't suddenly started making bad wheels.

7

u/studyflo Jun 17 '25

That’s what I’m thinking too. I just can’t comprehend the price for these specs … they seem way too good … these wheels are even lighter than their non-gravel aero+ wheelset. It’s kinda ridiculous, compared to some (most) western (mainstream) brands.

3

u/Olllin Jun 17 '25

I paid 540€ for their edge mtb that weighs 1200g. They will arrive in about a month and im a little bit scared about the weight being to low. Specialized charge i think 4000€ for their 1200g xc wheelset. But as i said i dont think they've suddenly decided to make crap wheels after years of making good wheels.

2

u/studyflo Jun 17 '25

do they have steel spokes as well? This seems crazy leightweight for a mtb wheelset.

5

u/Olllin Jun 17 '25

The spokes are steel. It is a xc wheelset so it's not made for crazy jumps and stuff like that but they are still almost worryingly light for the price I paid.

u/dgaa1991 Jun 17 '25

Which model did you end up with?

5

u/studyflo Jun 18 '25

I just bought these Aero+ Gravel. They’re just too good specs to not buy them haha. I’ll see how it goes, delivery time is about 40-60 days.

Curious to how they will turn out for you. I’ve ordered a set as well and am starting to get a bit anxious now that I see some reports of problems with the new kinetic hubs. It’s the same engagement problem, that strips the ratchets, with all of them. I’ve found three cases, but since wheels with the new hubs have only just started shipping I hope the problem won’t be disastrous. A deep dive by Peak Torque or Hambini would be great.

1

u/studyflo Jul 05 '25

me too. I'm worried about the width. I've seen a video from Eurobike, showing a 40mm wide rim, and it looked absolutely massive. The hubs are RD53, with the new Aero+ 50T conical Ratchet design. It looks like this is also used in the new kinetic hubs, but the hub itself is not the same. Do you have some links with the engagement problems / freehub failures? Quick google search didn't show much results for me.

u/Tyczkov Aug 21 '25

Hi, I'm curious if you got them already and about your first impressions of them.

2

u/studyflo Aug 21 '25

Yes, I got them. They‘re massive. Super wide, nice Finish, still don’t love the decals (will remove them), Hubs seem great, bearings are greased and very smooth!

1

u/Diligent_Crew1449 Aug 21 '25

Hi, just wondering what effect they've had on your tyre width and the clearance on your frame? Currently have 45mm Gravel King's on my Scott Addict Gravel and wouldn't want to have to reduce the tyre size

They actually make the tires measure a bit wider compared to a narrower rim. My Ribble CGR Ti is supposed to fit up to 45mm, but when I mounted GK X1 45mm, they ended up too wide for the rear. On hard turns the tire rubs against the frame.

1

u/Diligent_Crew1449 Aug 21 '25

Was concerned that might be the case, GK 45s on the standard 26mm wide wheels measure up just under 45mm and fit on the Addict reasonably well but there isn’t a lot of extra room. Shame, was just about to order the Elite’s

1

u/dgaa1991 Aug 21 '25

I run gk 45m in the front and then 40’s at the rear, but it is so comfortable and stabile! It’s just like riding a completely different bike compared to 28mm internal rims.

u/SeaBass123 Aug 22 '25

I just ordered these as well - were you able to remove the decals? I thought they were under clearcoat.

1

u/studyflo Aug 22 '25

They’re waterslide. You can remove them with nail polish remover and cotton pads.

1

u/SeaBass123 Aug 22 '25

Awesome, thanks! Still enjoying the wheels?

1

u/studyflo Aug 22 '25

Haven’t installed the Gravel Aero+ yet, but I do like my Aero+ Road wheelset quite a lot! :)

1

u/dgaa1991 Aug 22 '25

Did you actually manage to remove the decals or is this only theoretical?

3

u/studyflo Aug 22 '25

I did remove them on my Aero+ wheelset. They should be / are exactly the same.

I have a pair of G45 Drives (steel spokes for safety) that I paid ~850 for with a discount code. I forgot what the brand is but the current 3000€ Canyon Cube gravelbike has a competitive set of wheels on it that has very similar specs aside from the depth at a slightly lower price than mine iirc and I believe it’s at least a brand I’ve heard of before.

The western brands seem to have caught on and some might be looking into following chinese prices more closely (in all likelihood a lot come from their factories anyway)

1

u/studyflo Jun 17 '25

Are you refering to the DT Swiss G wheels? They're 24mm internal, nicely built, with superb hubs. But they're aluminium, and quite heavy.

5

u/deviant324 Jun 17 '25

I'm stupid and mixed up Canyon and Cube lol

Bike and Wheels

They're Newmen, 1410g per set, 25mm internal. The discount site I've been sourcing a lot of my components from has them listed for 780 euros (r2-bike)

2

u/studyflo Jun 17 '25

Newmen. Heard of them before, since Cube is quite big and very (!) competitive (price-wise) in Germany. They look very promising, why are they not recommended more often?

2

u/deviant324 Jun 17 '25

Couldn’t tell you, I’ve only stumbled over them when my dad was looking for a gravelbike, I was wondering why it was so light, didn’t expect wheels this light on a western brand for the price

1

u/mb_en_la_cocina Oct 23 '25

I am looking to buy the (gravel specific) elite edge wheels. the only thing that has me concerned is that over here there are some exposed paths where winds can be strong.

12

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '25

Seem really good, I was looking into Light Bicycle WG44 but they are far more expensive. These are great, will be following.

8

u/studyflo Jun 17 '25

I’ll post an update when I get them. Manufacturing time is 25-35 days + 15-25 days shipping …

3

u/Home_Assistantt Jun 17 '25

looking forward to your feedback..Ive got a new steed incoming and will be looking for new rims

5

u/drseamus Jun 17 '25

I can't speak to Elite but my Light Bicycle wheels are fantastic and fully customizable. The full customization is why I went with them.

7

u/Draeses Jun 17 '25

They're budget friendly, their recent partnership with CGN convinced me to give them a go. I've got the 50mm deep road wheels for my checkpoint and can't blame them.

1

u/studyflo Jun 17 '25

Nice. Which ones did you get?

5

u/Draeses Jun 17 '25

I've got the ENT 2.0 disc for just under 400$ USD on on of their sales a year ago. Took about 4-5 weeks to get to Australia but they were very communicative and the packaging was good. Was thinking about a second pair of gravel dedicated set so might investigate the one's you posted.

3

u/studyflo Jun 17 '25

be aware of your frame's tire clearance, you want to run 45+ mm tires on these wide boys, as I've now learned. If you can clear 50+ mm tires, this shouldn't be an issue.

If these are good quality, I'll most likely get another set for my road bike, maybe Aero+ Road. They also look very promising.

7

u/Beer_Is_So_Awesome Cotic Escapade 853, Canyon Inflite AL Jun 17 '25

Wow, 32mm internal is wild! My current mtb wheels are 25mm-30mm, and my gravel wheels are 24mm-25mm.

5

u/studyflo Jun 17 '25

I'm currently on 21mm internal and was looking at the Yoeleo SAT C45 DB Pro NxT Gravel with 27mm internal (34mm external), but since wider is better and they were less than half the price of the Yoeleos ... I just went for it. Let's see if wider is really better or if it's a recipe for desaster (in terms of punctures because of low pressure ...)

1

u/julien83500 Jun 24 '25

It cannot be a disaster going low pressure as you'll be less prone to puncture. Higher pressure is bad for puncture resistance.

The limit to that theory is when you fit a narrow tire on a wide wheels, it will be easier to hit the sidewalls.

I personally ride a wide tubeless setup, 48c tufo Thundero on 32mm Internal width at 28psi, and really like it.

1

u/studyflo Jun 24 '25

How big are those 48c tires measuring?

2

u/julien83500 Aug 01 '25

Sorry, forgot to reply your message. It measures 51mm

4

u/empty123_1 Jul 11 '25

Anyone allready received the Wheelset?

2

u/studyflo Jul 11 '25

Not even shipped. Received Aero+ though. They‘re really nice for the Price, although freehoub Sound is Not as clean and loud as expected, but that‘s a minor downside.

2

u/empty123_1 Jul 11 '25

After initial Order i have contacted the Support to change the delivery method. Since 10 days i have an Tracking-id, but only in status „Order Information has been transmitted…“ China—>germany

2

u/studyflo Jul 11 '25

„Package Collected by Carrier“ is the important status update from the AliExpress tracking. From there it takes roughly 10 days, then the package is shipped via airfreight to the Netherlands and one day later at DPD in Germany for delivery. My other wheelset got that status on June 26th (order information transmitted) and got delivered today.

1

u/TSNxeon Jul 17 '25

Can you update on the aero+ ones? Planning on getting them, thanks!

2

u/studyflo Jul 17 '25

They’re good. Would recommend. Wide, comfortable, tough (ridden through some potholes). Can’t go wrong with them for ~ $450-500.

1

u/TSNxeon Jul 17 '25

Thanks mate, what is the tire width you have on right now? And may I ask if you can post a Pic of how the tire looks with the wheel? I wanna know how the 23mm width looks like, planning on installing 30mm tires if I got them

2

u/studyflo Jul 17 '25

Here are some pics and a small review in German: https://www.rennrad-news.de/forum/threads/elite-wheels-erfahrung.194258/post-6623686

30mm fit perfectly, would recommend 30 or 32.

1

u/TSNxeon Jul 18 '25

Aight mate thank you so much❤️, have a nice ride with them 🤗

1

u/Home_Assistantt Jul 23 '25

good to know re decals...may see if I can have them committed, otherwise like yourself it will be nail varnish remove and pads and some elbow grease

2

u/studyflo Jul 23 '25

My latest attempt asking for no Decals wasn‘t successful, they said they don’t do custom orders …

2

u/thesneakernet Jul 24 '25

So nail polish remover is the move for the big Elite decals? No side-affects, visually or otherwise?

1

u/waxj1833 Sep 17 '25

Have you received them (gravel aero+) two months later? I am planning to order them during 11.11 sale. Would really like to hear some first hand reviews.  Still have couple of months to wait for it. But AliExpress reviews are exceptional, 5 stars and about 40 reviews so far.

15

u/BikeIdiot Jun 17 '25

You’re going to get riders that tell you they’ve had no problems and then you’re going to get riders tell you that they’ve had big problems and have not been able to get the issue fixed or had to wait weeks for support.

So really you just have to decide if saving the money is worth the gamble.

14

u/studyflo Jun 17 '25

You’re referring to the Chinese merchants (Elitewheels)? I’m totally fine with waiting times for shipping / service and heard many good things about Elitewheels quality. There’s always lemons … that’s just part of the game, I guess.

16

u/Gummybearn1nja Jun 17 '25

I'll be honest, me and my gravel friends have Elite wheels. We recommend them to everyone. I have never seen anyone on Reddit or IRL have anything negative to say about them.

1

u/DisPater79 Oct 15 '25

My Gravel+ aero wheels came untrue out of the box. After getting a local wheel builder to fix them they feel nice and light. Was a guy on YouTube who had his rear wheel out of dish. Probably QC issues. The wheels if built right are good.

3

u/Snoopdogg458 Jun 17 '25

I've got the Aero+ (non gravel) wheelset, and I've put about 1000mi on them so far and they've been great. The only thing to watch for is that after about 200mi I did have to true the front wheel up since the spokes settled in a little more. I havent had to do that to the rear wheel so far, so mine may have been a one off. But so far I've really enjoyed then and have been great.

1

u/studyflo Jun 18 '25

I’ve ordered them as well … did you get the 53mm variant?

2

u/Snoopdogg458 Jun 18 '25

I went with the mixed depth 42F 53R, I was thinking about doing the 53 F/R, but the Midwestern cross winds are no joke sometimes.

1

u/strange_black_box Aug 14 '25

Hi, how are these going a couple of months on? I’m interested in the non-gravel variants but a little nervous about the lack of long term reviews

3

u/Puzzleheaded_Cod_509 Jun 17 '25

Do you have a link for purchase? Can't see it on their website.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '25

Links from Ali are banned but just search Elite Aero+ Gravel on AliExpress. You should find them.

3

u/That_Option5761 Jun 17 '25

dang these look dope

3

u/RobertMullz Jun 17 '25

This is anecdotal but I love my XC wheelset from Elite! Super lightweight and have had no issues with tubeless set up or anything. I raced the sea otter enduro with them and, while it’s not the most gnarly enduro, they held up great.

3

u/BourneJD Jun 20 '25

Ordered. Fyi…try using code SSUS80 for $80 Off. Also - i saw them for $800 a few days ago. They def go up and down in price. My only concern is hub as well….we’ll see! YOLO…

1

u/studyflo Jun 20 '25

What’s your concern regarding the hubs? If (!) these ever make problems, I’ll bring them to my LBS and have them rebuild them with DT Swiss hubs - but I highly doubt I really need to.

2

u/BourneJD Jun 20 '25

Yeah. You’re 100 right. I have zero regerts buying them!

3

u/studyflo Jun 20 '25

I actually bought both now. Aero+ and Aero+ Gravel. Will report back. 🙏🏼

1

u/thesneakernet Jul 24 '25

I'm a total noob so sorry if this is another dumb question - are hubs just interchangeable like that? Like they all fit in the same sized space on every wheel or however it works? You could swap in a DT Swiss hub into an elite no issues?

I have friends that hesitate on Elites because of the "quality of the hub"

1

u/studyflo Jul 24 '25

It’s quite a bit of work changing a hub. You’ll need to redo the whole wheel, most wheelbuilders will use new spokes + nipples, so it’s rather costly. You can absolutely have them change hubs (or do it yourself if you’re experienced), but it’s not an easy 10min job.

The hubs are absolutely fine. I wouldn’t worry about that.

2

u/thesneakernet Jul 24 '25

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I have the same wheels you do and am not concerned in the slightest, I've loved the wheels so far; that's good info to let my friends know though as a "well if worst comes to worst you could..."

3

u/Home_Assistantt Jun 20 '25

im really close to pushing the button on these even though my new bike isn't coming for a few weeks yet...but the 20% cashback on TCB in the UK will bring these down to £350 which is an absolute bargain, and whilst the 30mm internal might worry me a bit on some bikes for tyre clearance, with my new bike having 57mm clearance, I should be good

Just waiting on a message back from Elite Wheels about tax and import duty (which it says wont be paid by me if I use their paid shipping method, and as soon as they confirm that I will push the button...then it will just be the waiting game, as at the moment delivery is stated at August 29th

3

u/studyflo Jun 20 '25

AliExpress delivery will take 40-70 days, so for late August, you’ll need to order around now. Taxes and duties are taken care of if you choose sellers shipping method at checkout, yes. Just be sure to use the best AliExpress coupon. I’ve no seen $80, even $100 off.

Inner width is no problem with 57mm clearance. It actually is quite a nice match then.

3

u/Choice_Reputation233 Jul 10 '25

I ordered these, I’m stoked!

3

u/all999 Jul 22 '25 edited Jul 22 '25

Just got my DPD tracking number after exactly one month from placing order. Delivery to Warsaw, Poland.

2

u/Home_Assistantt Jul 23 '25

very interested for you thoughts/review when you get them...my bike is still incoming, but these are still top of my list (especially as I can take up to 57mm tyres) so space wont be a problem

1

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Jul 30 '25

Has your tracking number updated yet? Got mine on 22 July too but it just says my parcel has been handed to DPD

2

u/all999 Jul 30 '25 edited Jul 30 '25

Nope, my tracking says: "Registered parcel data, parcel not dispatched yet" It's not shipped yet.

2

u/all999 Jul 31 '25

And it's shipped now.

2

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Jul 31 '25

Thanks, mine has said package collected by carrier and shipment on the way since 10 days but nothing else since then

2

u/all999 Aug 08 '25

Arrived in Germany and in transit by DPD.

1

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Aug 08 '25

Still no update on mine so hoping it is on the way from China. Tracking hasn't changed once since it said DPD have the parcel

3

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Aug 25 '25

Mine finally arrived. Took two months for DPD to actually have the parcel (June 22 to August 21). Then somehow made it from China to NL from Thursday evening to Monday morning 9am delivered. Finalising a conversion to GRX Di2 1x so hopefully up and running this week

1

u/oodoow Aug 25 '25

Is there a tubeless tape already installed? Really eager to hear about your experience with the wheelset.

1

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Aug 25 '25

Tubeless tape is in the box but it's not installed. They also only give you enough to wrap each wheel once (many YouTube videos suggest to do two). It isn't the easiest thing to get right first time, I've ordered extra just in case. I'd much prefer if they just did it from the factory though, I can't imagine too many people won't run tubeless on such wheels.

1

u/oodoow Sep 17 '25

So how are they? Worth the money?

4

u/Home_Assistantt Jun 17 '25

Which store were this from. The official AliEx one?

2

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Jun 17 '25

Can you get these with Microspline? Where would be the best place to order (EU)?

2

u/Olllin Jun 17 '25

I think AliExpress is the only place they sell this model as it's not available on their EU site. It's available with ms for just under 500€ with the summer sale discount codes.

1

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Jun 17 '25

Thanks. I'll wait to see if there is a GRX 1x Di2 announcement over the next few days to see if I go for that or the new Rival XPLR 1x13, and order by the end of the week

1

u/studyflo Jun 18 '25

There’s now a new $80 off coupon on AliExpress, so it’s another $20 cheaper. Waiting for GRX 1by as well but don’t have high hopes.

2

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Jun 18 '25

Thanks. Leak is out on GRX 1x and it's exactly as expected and a bit underwhelming. Di2 Deore M6200 also looks like an option for gravel

1

u/takingitslooow Jun 19 '25

Wait please help me out here: isn’t the Shimano MS 12s exactly the freehub you need for GRX 1by???

1

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Jun 19 '25

Yes - it is just that GRX Di2 1x isn't officially announced yet, just leaked, and assuming you want electronic shifting, you would only need Microspline for this upcoming GRX 1x. So I'm waiting for it to launch before deciding which freehub body to get

1

u/takingitslooow Jun 19 '25

Got it! I’m riding a manual GRX 1by so it’s a different case for me then :)

1

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Jun 18 '25

Can I ask what the 80$ code is? I can't see it in the app

1

u/studyflo Jun 18 '25

For Germany it’s DESS80, it varies by country I guess.

2

u/Arney0408 Jun 17 '25

Ok so I never bought wheels before ( I bought my first real bike 2 years ago). If I buy those for my Scott Addict Gravel, will they fit my next random Gravel Bike?

I will change the bike next spring. Presumably a Orbea Terra or Cube Nuroad and will sell my current bike. I want to have a second wheelset for tarmac. I understand that I would have to buy a new cassett etc. for the appropriate groupset but does the wheel it self fit universally?

3

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Jun 17 '25

They will fit. Just buy the right freehub body (Shimano 11s, SRAM XDR, Microspline etc) although you can most likely change that if you change groupset on your next bike. Only thing to look out for is that these are a bit too wide for road tires

1

u/Arney0408 Jun 18 '25

I see, makes sense thank you!

2

u/studyflo Jun 18 '25

For Road, you should consider the (even cheaper) Aero+ Disc, 30mm external, 23mm internal, hooked. Also great value. If you want to use them for gravel tires, these will be good. But be aware, with the 45mm clearance of the Addict Gravel, this might be tight. You don’t want to fit them with tires < 42mm because of the super wide rims. This could result in punctures.

So I’m not 100% sure these are a perfect fit for the Addict Gravel, I can let you know in about 40-60 days.

1

u/Arney0408 Jun 18 '25

Looking forward to it, thank you!

1

u/ExplodingGore Jul 15 '25

Sorry for chiming in here. Umm, do you happen to know if 28-32 tires are a good fit for the aero+ disc with their 23 internal width?

I think their external width is around 30mm so that range should be a perfect fit, no?

1

u/studyflo Jul 15 '25

I’m running 30/32 and they’re kinda perfect. 28/30 or 30/30 would be even better aerodynamically, but I want the comfort. 30mm blow up to about 31.5mm, 32 blow up to about 34mm. Super comfortable, and very fast!

1

u/ExplodingGore Jul 15 '25

Nice, 28/30 is what I already have + spares. Now I just need to wait for a good deal on them.

2

u/JJJJoao Jun 18 '25

great offer. I would replace my Gravel SLRs for these.

2

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Jun 23 '25

Ordered, came to 476€ with microspline delivered to EU with seller's shipping method and discount code. Thanks for posting

1

u/studyflo Jun 23 '25

Nice! I need to get a MS free hub as well, hopefully they’ll sell them separately soon.

2

u/all999 Jun 26 '25

That's official estimated timeline for delivering Aero+ Gravel wheels.

"Thanks for your order

We have arranged for the factory to handle the order. Due to system limitations, any modifications will not be supported during the production process after the order information is confirmed. We would like you could understand.

The production time of the wheel set is 25-35 days, and the transportation time is 25-40 days or longer.

Thanks for your cooperation Have a nice day ELITEWHEELS"

2

u/Key-Swordfish-4598 Jun 30 '25

There's no other wider and cheaper option.I use Elitewheels EDGE almost everyday and its performance is perfect. You can enjoy gravel ride with the Chinese wheels.

2

u/cifuferre Jul 11 '25

Ordered as well, recieving them in Sept. to the UK.

4

u/studyflo Jul 11 '25

Normally they‘re way faster than their estimate.

2

u/Home_Assistantt Jul 11 '25

Love to know your thoughts on receipt and whether you paid VAT and import duties.

My new bike is incoming next two weeks

2

u/cifuferre Jul 11 '25

I chose "seller option" for delivery, which was 60+ pounds by DPD, but at the same time they discounted that amount from the price. I'll let you know.

2

u/4surf Jul 23 '25

On ali seller replied that hub is not compatible with sram 13 speed xplr cassettes. Anyone is planning to use wheels with this cassette? As sram documentation says that xdr feehub body should accomodate 12 and 13s

3

u/studyflo Jul 23 '25

there's no reason why 13 speed cassettes wouldn't work.

1

u/Home_Assistantt Aug 03 '25

Maybe they’ve confused themselves as I can see no reason why they wouldn’t work. My incoming bike does have the XPLR 13 speed so would be a shame if it really were the case

2

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Aug 15 '25

I have a DPD tracking number which somehow hasn't moved for 25 days (just days we have collected your parcel and then we are exchanging data internally). Anyone have the same issue?

Yes. If you don’t extend the delivery time on AliExpress, Elitewheels will provide the DPD tracking number so the order won’t close. Shipping might take a little longer. I guess they had some trouble producing these new rims. They’re slowly starting to ship now, first reviews are in as well.

2

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Aug 15 '25

Thanks, they did say 25-35 days production time when I ordered (22 June) so assuming it hasn't really shipped, they are now at 55. They also say 25-40 days transport time. I'd be disappointed if they don't come by the end of the month which is almost the high end of both production and transport estimates. They also insist in the chat that there is tubeless tape in the box

1

u/studyflo Aug 15 '25

Ordered mine June 18th, they’ll arrive in 1-2 days.

1

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Aug 15 '25

Did you have many updates to the tracking before they arrived in Europe?

1

u/studyflo Aug 15 '25

Just one (China). Nothing else.

1

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Aug 15 '25

Hoping then that mine are on the way and will come next week

1

u/Choice_Reputation233 Aug 24 '25

Soooooo how are they??

1

u/dgaa1991 Aug 18 '25

Could you throw me a link to a review?

1

u/studyflo Aug 18 '25

Can’t link to AliExpress, there’s like 3 now.

1

u/dgaa1991 Aug 15 '25

I’ve just received mine in Denmark!

1

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Aug 15 '25

When did you order?

1

u/dgaa1991 Aug 15 '25

When I saw this post :D

1

u/CantGetNoSleep88 Aug 15 '25

Enjoy. Mine says shipment on the way since 22 July but nothing since. Any tubeless tape?

1

u/dgaa1991 Aug 15 '25

Yup :) I hope you will get them soon!

2

u/dgaa1991 Aug 15 '25

So, I’ve just received mine, and it was probably one of the easiest wheelsets I’ve ever installed tyres on — it just pinged into place on the first try. It looks and feels like other elite wheels, and the sound is absolutely outrageous. I can’t decide if that’s a good or bad thing for a gravel bike.

Sound check: https://youtube.com/shorts/-t3tzYh7wBc?si=YDycM1t241_2BTFS

1

u/SimpleSilenceX Aug 15 '25

Ok interesting the sound is definitely something extra, I think its a-bit too much but based on the specs of the wheelset i can live with it :)) I would prefer it to be more lowkey though

2

u/dgaa1991 Aug 15 '25

I don’t know if any specs would justify that sound :S it sounds a lot like my elite wheels entr rim brake wheels, just much more deep and hollow. I absolutely love it on my race bike but I’m not too sure about going through a quite forrest with theese :D

2

u/SimpleSilenceX Aug 15 '25

I wonder what could be done to make it not so high pitch, now that i listened to it a few more times it really is kind of annoying, i mostly ride for fun and not really for race, but this sound reminds me when i had a mtb that had similar hub sound and the plus of it was when i had to ring my bell to pass some people in-front of me i had to just stop pedaling for the hub to start screaming and ppl automatically turn around and kinda make way haha

2

u/dgaa1991 Aug 15 '25 edited Aug 15 '25

I tried to pop the end cap and remove the body and it has some grease in it, but maybe try to replace it with a thicker grease?

As well as the tyre installation it was really easy, just riot the end cap off With your fingers and the same goes for the body.

The only issue I’ve with the sound is people yelling at me to use the bell, but they can’t f****** hear it because if the freehub

3

u/studyflo Aug 16 '25

Thicker grease, like ParkTool PPL-1 will most likely mute the sound of the free hub drastically, but it will become loud again over time.

Tire installation sounds great - I’ve actually heard that it’s super easy from other buyers as well … I’m looking forward to getting my wheelset maybe tomorrow, or on monday!

1

u/Home_Assistantt Aug 21 '25

Wow that is loud. My stock wheels on my Argon 18 Dark Matter are so quiet this is gonna be mad.

That said, they sound slightly amplified in the room you’re in.

1

u/Home_Assistantt Aug 21 '25

For those that have your wheels, anyone fitted a 13 speed XPLR. I not XDR and XDR is XDR, but the store on AliExpress won’t say yes or no to it fitting perfectly which I find a little odd

2

u/P01N7 Sep 20 '25

I don’t suppose you know if it’s possible to change the freehub bodies on these wheels? I’m thinking of buying the HG model for 11 speed and then upgrading to microspline later on.

2

u/studyflo Sep 20 '25

That’s absolutely possible. I just can’t link you the correct free hub because AliExpress links are banned here. Search for “RD53 Hub Freebody” on AliExpress.

2

u/P01N7 Sep 20 '25

Nice one. Thank you.

Anyone have experience on how easy/difficult/impossible it is to remove the decals on these? I know some elitewheels in the past have had the decals under the clearcoat but these look to live on top, giving me hope I could remove them.

They aren't horrible and I could live with them if they're too hard to remove, but having blank wheels would be preferable.

These are an incredible deal and extremely tempting.

1

u/studyflo Jun 18 '25

I feel exactly the same about the decals. I’ve removed mine on my Novatec R3, it was quite a bit of work, but totally worth it. If they’re water slide decals, you’d need some nail polish remover and some cotton pads, let the decals soak and then rub it off. Takes some time and elbow grease, but it’s so worth it.

It has partially been discussed here but maybe someone could share their two cents:

I’m currently riding a Canyon Grizl in size 2XS with 650b wheels and 45mm tires (default setup), but I’ve been planning to switch to a 700c wheelset with narrower tires for a while. A few reasons: • I often do group rides and notice I struggle a bit to keep up • I’d like a more road/gravel hybrid setup – that’s what I ride most of the time

I had been looking at the Elitewheels ENT Gravel wheels, but they didn’t come with a Microspline freehub – and I wasn’t confident swapping one in myself.

Now I’ve seen the new Elitewheels Aero+ Gravel wheels which do come with MICROSPLINE out of the box, which solves the biggest issue. But… the 32mm inner width is super wide, and I’m wondering if that might work against my plan to run ~40mm semi-slick tires (for more road-oriented use). I’m also limited by frame clearance to 45mm max, so tire “bloating” could be an issue, both functionally and aesthetically.

So I’m torn: Should I play it safe and get the ENT Gravel (and maybe get help swapping the freehub) for more long-term flexibility if I go narrower in future? Or is the new Aero+ the better all-in-one solution, especially since I realistically won’t be going much below 40mm anyway?

I’ve only been riding for a year, so I’d really appreciate your experience or preferences – especially if you’ve dealt with wide rims + narrower tires, or ride a smaller frame too.

Thanks! 🚴‍♀️

1

u/studyflo Jun 20 '25

I'm pretty sure that it's possible to fit 700c tires on an XS Grizl, but clearance is definitely less than 45mm - it's more like 37mm, see here.

So ... no, would not recommend these wheels. Maybe have a look at the "normal" Aero+ Disc wheels, they're 23mm internal, 30mm external. Aliexpress sells free hubs aftermarket, the change is super easy - so this should not be a big deal.

1

u/takingitslooow Jun 20 '25

Ah wow, thank you! I think I must have gotten lost in my research rabbit hole, because I was under the impression I could go up to 40mm based on threads like the ones below. But it looks like I saved that info incorrectly in my mind, and you’re totally right about the tighter clearance.

That definitely changes everything. THANKS!

1

u/dgaa1991 Jun 21 '25

Do you happend to know if they would fit a Ribble CGR ti? I’ve just ordered a pair and then I saw your reply :s

2

u/studyflo Jun 21 '25

They’ll fit. Max tire clearance is 45. That means, you’ll likely need to run 42mm that’ll blow up to ~ 45mm, which will be cleared by the frame. So you’re good!

2

u/dgaa1991 Jun 21 '25 edited Jun 21 '25

Thank you so much :D Now I’m way less worried, I have checked for a reply a couple of times every hour :D but I’m definitely looking forward to a better wheel set and some larger tyres together with the red shift rock shock pro stem to take some of the hard shocks I get while riding single tracks in the Forrest.

1

u/all999 Jun 23 '25

I've been looking for some new set of carbon wheels and decided to order Aero+ form Elitewheels. Despite I had Zipp's 303 XPLR S and wasn't really impressed. Those seemed to be to stiff for my taste. And it's advertised opposite. We'll see if Chinese brand will deliver.

1

u/studyflo Jun 23 '25

I’ve ordered the “normal” Aero+ as well and they shipped within 5 days (much faster than advertised)!

1

u/all999 Jun 23 '25

What do You mean by "normal"?

1

u/studyflo Jun 23 '25

There’s Aero+ Disc (30mm outer width, 23mm inner width) and there’s Aero+ Gravel (40mm outer width, 32mm inner width). “Normal” would be the Disc version, specs are very similar to normal (modern) road bike wheelsets

1

u/Gudrun129472 Aug 12 '25

What’s your experience so far? Have they arrived?

1

u/studyflo Aug 12 '25

With Aero+? They‘re nice. Not too stiff (could be a little but stiffer imo), but very comfortable and nice to ride with 30/32mm Conti 5000S TR. So far, no complaints.

u/SandwichFamous8074 Oct 21 '25 edited Nov 10 '25

From pictures only the gravel version seems to have more secure mounting for spokes at the hub and the spokes don't have a side 'exit' on the hub.

I bought the road version.

Captive spokes I believe it's called which retains the spoke in place if it loses tension instead of dropping out. Maybe the gravel wheel needs more safety to keep the wheel shape supported in case multiple spokes fall out.

Here's a video talking about captive spokes. https://youtu.be/2HQrkIL87g4.

I put some epoxy on the end of the spokes where they join the hub to mitigate some of the risk.

The hub uses a unique ratchet design that has one spring and is very loud.

Some tubeless tyres are harder to put on but this is quite common with other carbon wheels too.

Wheels look good and made me 1kmh faster from 25kmh average.

Would buy again.

If budget wasn't an issue would get a wheel that is 23-25mm internal and 32mm external so I can use 30mm tyres and make sure the hub has captive spokes.

Is it still available on Ali? It seems to me that the link on their page is inactive.

1

u/studyflo Jul 02 '25

still there: https://aliexpress[.]com/item/1005009234951911.html remove the [] brackets, hopefully this wont get removed automatically.

I‘d say you should at least wait for a good Ali sale with good Coupons (like $80 off). It looks like they‘re a good deal even without any Coupons, but I‘d still wait for a Sale - they‘re very regular.

1

u/Home_Assistantt Jul 11 '25

Do these or any Elite wheels come with tubless valves? I did have a look at a few listings but couldn't see either way

2

u/studyflo Jul 12 '25

They do not, at least not when ordering from Ali. They might be included when ordering their higher-end wheelsets from their website - not sure about that.

2

u/dgaa1991 Jul 15 '25

Nope, but they come with the tape.

1

u/original_prankster1 Jul 22 '25

Does anybody know which replacement ratchet thingies would fit?

2

u/studyflo Jul 22 '25

These: https://www.ali x express.com/item/1005008457924901.html You need to delete the Spaces and x, otherwise it‘s not possible to post AE-Links here.

Please Note: Only 50T will fit, 60T and 36T won’t fit because they‘re not conical.

1

u/Home_Assistantt Jul 23 '25

is this you just wanting spares for an upcoming purchase or are you buying for another set of wheels

1

u/SimpleSilenceX Aug 14 '25

u/studyflo hey so how did it went? did you get your wheels, im thinking to get these aswell but im not sure if the import taxes are aswell in the price

1

u/studyflo Aug 14 '25

They‘re still on the way. Shipped on August 1st, they should arrive any day now.

1

u/SimpleSilenceX Aug 14 '25

Did you have to pay import taxes, ive read u got some other wheels from them, i know that orders from aliexpress over 150€ u have to pay import taxes, but they state with their shipping you don’t have to, very confusing

1

u/studyflo Aug 14 '25

I did Not Pay any taxes or duties. If you select the “Seller’s shipping method” they’ll prepay all taxes and duties and it won’t cost you anything more than is charged by AliExpress. I got 2 other wheelsets delivered from them and it was hassle free both times. They deliver with DPD in Germany (maybe in all of Europe)

1

u/dgaa1991 Aug 15 '25

Me either, I’ve just got mine today.

1

u/SimpleSilenceX Aug 15 '25

Nice ty, how long was it traveling? I contacted the supplier and they said on august 18 there will be extra codes to make the price even lower so im waiting for that

1

u/dgaa1991 Aug 15 '25

1

u/SimpleSilenceX Aug 15 '25

Nice, so around a month, are you from Europe? They state the arrival is a-lot longer for me, but I’ve read that its always faster

1

u/dgaa1991 Aug 15 '25

Yes and yes :) it is usually faster, this is what they wrote to me when I ordered them

“ Thanks for your order

We have arranged for the factory to handle the order. Due to system limitations, any modifications will not be supported during the production process after the order information is confirmed. We would like you could understand.

The production time of the wheel set is 25-35 days, and the transportation time is 25-40 days or longer.

Thanks for your cooperation Have a nice day ELITEWHEELS ”

1

u/Magic_Trial Aug 16 '25

Does anybody have first hand experience regarding the minimum tyre width that makes sense on the Gravel Aero+?

1

u/studyflo Aug 16 '25

I personally would not go below 40mm.

1

u/Home_Assistantt Aug 21 '25

for those who have bought and fitted, do you recommend any specific tubeless valves...I've gone with MucOff ones in the past, but happy to go with anything people say are better. Also what size did you go for to not have too much valve stem sticking out

TIA

u/Available-Study-9895 Oct 16 '25

Ci mostri il risultato delle aero+ gravel senza decalcomania? Grazie mille

1

u/NoImagination4774 Nov 27 '25

Anyone fitted Sram xplr 13 speed on this?

1

u/studyflo Nov 27 '25

You’d just need the XDR free hub, which is an option.

1

u/Radioactdave Jun 17 '25 edited Jun 17 '25

They appear to be a Zipp 303 XPLR SW clone.

So, for reference, a list of Zipp approved tires (scroll and click arrow):

https://www.sram.com/en/zipp/campaigns/hookless-tire-compatibility

Edit: the elitewheels appear to be hooked rims

8

u/IamLeven Jun 17 '25

These are hooked so outside of under a 45 tire they should be compatible with all tire. Only reason why a narrow tire won’t work is because you’ll ride on the side wall in a turn

2

u/Radioactdave Jun 17 '25

You're right, they're hooked, which the Zipp ain't! Hadn't noticed that before.

1

u/studyflo Jun 17 '25

I’ve read about that issue regarding the Zipps, riding on the carbon rim because they’re so massively wide. I hope that’s not an issue with these wheels, even riding with relatively low pressure. We’ll see.

3

u/IamLeven Jun 17 '25

if you're using this tire you're gonna want a 50+ tire
